If you are pulling fish off the bottom and see it happening. Sometimes changing you speed as they rush up gets them to stike if you lead is 15 feet or less I have had success running the ball up 10 feet as they come up to get them to hit. Alot of times they are lakers but they can sure swim fast when they want to

Don't go to deep at port d stay inside of 100' and you should find a few fish. Good luck

I have the navionics card with the fish and chips option and get 1 ' contours on the lake. There maybe better options out there but the detail is very good and is fairly acurate when compared to the actual sonar numbers

Bronte has a pen that they started this year and I think port d has a pen project as well. When I was a kid it seemed like every marina and river had salmon running up them or in them. Hopefully the stocking program makes some adjustments to get some more fish in the west end. I know the river runs have not been nearly what they were even 5 years ago. And the preasure is down a lot because of it. If there are no fish to catch the banks thin out alot.

My boat has perko flush mounts as well. They worked great until I mounted my new scotty's to them and started running 20 pound weights. I then found out that the factory didn't install a backing plate... so I change my mounting of my riggers and can say that he rod holders were not the problem it was the lack of a backing plate.

Unfortunately I can't trailer my boat. But I can make the run across in an hour and a half I think. I may give it a go.

It a long run from Grimsby to Toronto. And I don't really know the areas to fish but I might just make the run this weekend if the weather allows it. I am going to head towards port d the end of the week and see what's up there maybe Saturday I will have to burn some gas...

That sucks. Seems like this end of the lake has been bad the last two years. Hopefully the pen project at bronte helps out with the fishery. It was a good spring but man has it gone quite in this corner of the lake

By all accounts it is slow. West end has been very though for salmon this last three weeks. Although this might be the weekend it turns on. If you don't mind lakers I'm sure you can get on them

I have mine on the oposite side of my hull from my fish finder transducer. It sits on the same side as my kicker motor. And so far the only issue I have had is when the batteries were dying and the probe would intermittently stop reading. They say 100 hours of battery life I would say it was really close to that I calculated 115 hours

Lmao agree driving is a different story all together. But nice to have company at 4 am and always a plus getting a few extra rods in the water. Just make sure to bring a blanket... apperantly 70 is cold

took my friend out today to see what we could find.

Got the lines in at 6 am in 90 feet saw lots of bait and lots of hooks. Worked out to 120 looking for good Temps and some better hooks. Nothing it was cold all the way down the water column.  730 rigger fires down 95 in 120 dt 43. Laker off meat. That was followed by a few more lakers of the deep rigger. Then at 10 the rod fires beauty 6 pound coho. Put out the 400 copper pulled a dipsey out. They were only collecting water fleas today anyway. Nailed two fish off it out deep 220 I think one laker and  another little coho. He didn't make it got all wrapped in the line so BBQ tonight. Tough day light bite. Really only one rigger was working had multiple fish hit and come off right away. Total was 8 for 13. Nothing big no kings but a great day on the water and my friend had sore arms from reeling in all the fish... and two that came unglued on the 400. Long reel for a reset lol.

I run a 24" lead to a yellow peanut three red beads to a hook. It is a true laker killer. They love them out there.

Side note: Just make sure to take the time to revive the Lakers when you catch them they can be very tired after coming up from the deep. Especially when the water gets warm

They really are that easy. I also find wonder bread is killer for them... at any speed they love that colour pattern for some reason.

Personally I tie the fly lead right to the swivel so all my Flys and meat heads all have there own individual swivels. Not sure if a loop would work but sounds like an good idea. It works for fly line...

Usually with wire it's a good idea to have a rod with metal guides on it because the wire cuts into regular guides and will wear them out quickly. Personally I use the okuma copper lead core rods and find the work well. They are a little more then the TRD but the tip will come off easy with a lighter. And they have metal guides. I am sure that there are other options but the okuma is a relatively cheap way fish with wire.

On my boat the live well and the water wash come from the same intake and go through the same pump. Was built this way at the factory, so it should work for you.

I am still new to the lake and made the decision over the winter to invest in a fish hawk x4. I can't say that it is the sole reason for my success this year because understanding the lake a bit more defiantly helps. But in 4 years in the water this has been my most successful spring yet. I think they can be very useful for a beginner.

The salt really helped today. Some of my larger strips wouldn't roll. Wonder if I need to get different heads for larger strips. The small ones spun nice

So I cut up some herring to run left some natural and some brine in star Brite. I find it to soft, do any of you salt your bait? Or use a pro cure like eggs to firm up the flesh? Green as grass with cut bait so any tips would be great.

The for cast looks better as the week goes on.
