Friday i was able to take a few teacher friends out early. Lines down by 530...had 6 from then until 9...3 majors...ran...shook...ran...shook...off... oh well...had 2 other teenagers and a steelie. Shut down after 9...fished until noon. All fish were 150 -180...80 to 90 down.

Saturday morning...took my son out for a few hours before i go to the graduation parties. Lines down by 7...2 teenage kings in box over 150 fow by 8...then slowed down. Finally found some more action over 220 around 9...boated a coho and 2 steelies 50 to 80 down. Pulled lines at 10.

I live by it for browns in the summer. They are very temp sensitive and i like to find it quick before the sun is too high. Besides that, you can save the money and just look at this site to get the general idea of where the fish are. Main reason i have one is that i won a $400 gift card for a fishhawk system. It works...but you dont "need" it in my opinion.

Another thing to do is research online papers on brown trout tagging. I dont remeber the name of it, but it was a research paper done in grad school in the late 80s where they tagged browns and logged results. Somethings i remember were 97% of the time in the summer the browns were in 57-62 degree water. They hate "disturbance", so during big storms they would be as much as 20 miles off shore, and they are much more active than we think.

Yeah...35 to 40...10 to 20 down. Saturday was a bit shallower...but they are there. Not a crazy bite...but you can pick at them. Both days hit them until 10.

Browns are still good early. We hooked up with 7 between 530 and 930...one of them took about 45 minutes to bring to the boat. Got tangled up from the first hit, doubled up and the second fish was lost after getting tangled in the first line. Brown was the largest i ever saw, right at the back when it finally came up i yelled "i i think i need a bigger net"...fish went crazy and swam away...i swear it was smiling at me the whole time. Oh well...another story of the one that got away. Size was good as well, had another 10 pounder. Others were smaller but still feeeding well. We had one hit from 830 to 930...so tried to go out deep and see if we could find a silver...only 1 hit in three hours on a high dipsy. Fished out to 200 and back in. Also hooked three alewives by the mouth...first for me. Browns we cut up were eating them well.

The last one we lost broke the line, with the hot lure! ..hit and ran and broke off....pulled lines at 10. May have been able to find them after...but didn't have time.

We did well on browns once we found that they were inside 40 fow. 4 for 5 in 2 hours...the sun up around 9 and it shut down. First hour and a half we tried 40 to 60, it wasn't until we went inside when we got some fish. Good size and well fed. 10 pound and 14 pound landed.

Easiest thing to do is bring worms to the pier. All the fish you can handle. You can also bring her to powder mills park in Victor. They have a stocked trout pond you can fish in the afternoon...i think 10 - 2 if you are under the age of 12.

It takes some getting used to...for example...finding out what coppers you can use with what depth dipsies, how to turn with them, how to deal with them with a fish on...but when you get used to it...it works wonders.

Yeah...i personally have different lengths of copper and find that when you run it like that it tracks worse for whatever reason. But you can do it...as long as it is not sliding.

I know the weather changes everything, especially this week...but UV black tux was 5 for 8 between 50 and 70 fow before 9 am. Riggers and 300 copper. When the sun came up...it was a mixed bag of greens, even the laker, 120 down on a revolution green and black glow.

My son is in middle achool and his teacher Mr Anderson started a field and stream club. I offered to take some kids out on the boat for a trip. We ended up getting 6 kids and the 2 chaperones on the boat. Left the docks at 6, got bqck at noon. Ended up landing 7 small kings, 1 small coho, 1 small steelie and a 31 inch laker. Lost about 6 more hits. Kids had a blast, even tripled up at one point...only to lose 2 of the fish! Hopefully the big boys will show up soon...but always happy to get the next generation going. Great group of kids, awesome to listen to a bunch of kids talk fishing and not stare at their phones.

I use rubber bands to make sure the line is on so it doesnt slide down. Kinda a pain at first...but when you get used to it...very easy.

Didnt have a lot of time to fish this weekend, but short trips are better than no trips! Got out for three hours saturday afternoon...went deep 250-350...picked up 2 lakers and a steelie in the top 40 fow. Monday got out again for three hours and had 3 skip kings down 50-60 over 150-180 fow. Missed 2 other shots deep 120 down. Word at the docks is fishing slow for browns as well. Didnt try them, just heard a few guys tried them with little luck and then dragged bottom and got into some lakers. Taking a group of kids from a field and stream club out next weeekend, should be fun! Love to see young kids getting into this! Take my son on every trip, he is 12, and loves it! Need to get more kids into this.

Took my son and his friend out fishing for an afternoon trip. Got the lines down around 2, fished the first hour from 40-100 fow, no luck and little marks. Moved out and around 150 fow the temp started dropping from 52 on the surface to 48 by 180 fow.  Ended up 1 for 2 on lakers and 4 for 5 on steelhead. Laker shots were 110 down and the steelhead hit 150 and 200 coppers. Around 5 oclock we saw some dark clouds and I played is safe and pulled the lines. I want the kids to come out again, and a storm is not the way to do it. Turned out to be completely dry! Oh well...better safe than sorry.

Im glad you guys are calling this out...i was thinking...man...i suck if thats true! Haha... I dont really buy it either.

I had a flatline running...just couldnt get it to go. Maybe i should have tried more up high.

Been a few weeks, got out at 7...tried browns until 8:30, fished from 7 - 25 fow. Very clear water and no hits. Moved out and picked up a coho and dropped another fish 60 feet down over 100fow, moved out a bit deeper and marked a number of fish 100-110 down over 150 - 180 fow. Dropped a rigger and picked up a nice laker. Took 2 more shots and called it a day around 11:30. Not the greatest day, but better than working! Anyone having luck out there? Sodus reports have been scarce the last few weeks. Looked like a number of boats were fishing in the 100 to 140 range, I'm guessing lakers?

Here is the 33.5 inch brown from Sunday. Sorry for the delay in upload. Took 22 minutes to bring in on the light line...we didnt get a chance to weigh it, just measured and released. If you want to see me wonder if it was a snag, then think it was a king, then giggle over a big fish...i posted the fight on youtube. Search 15 pound brown. You will see me in a red shirt.

When we were fishing 20-25 feet...we were seeing bottom.

Sorry, forgot to mention. Started at Maxwell, trolled through the boats traffic and then decided to just get away from the boats. Ended up about 2 miles west of Maxwell. All hits on stickbaits after we got away from the pack.

I promised I would post more this year because I always get a lot of good information from the site. I typically fish 30-40 trips a year. I am a teacher, so my summer months are pretty much spent on the boat with my son and daughter during the week. I fished from 8:30 - 12 today for Browns. Spent the first 2 hours looking inside for good water or temps inside. Water was REALLY clear and I couldnt find anything. Moved out to 20 FOW and ended up picking up 3 in the last hour and a half. 2 were typical, one in the middle of those was a big boy and we wanted to release it. Couldnt get my scale to work, so measured it at 33.5 inches. Got it on Video! Made 6 runs, thought it might be a king! Son did awesome job of brining it in. Ill post the video if I can figure out my editing software.

Went out for the shakedown trip. Got the lines down at 9:30 - pulled them at 11:45. Went 1 for 3. Just east of Maxwell was a small mudline, got one hit just outside of it. Few boats were working that area so kept going and found a nice bit of water just past maxwell. Temp was up 2 degrees and some color. Had 2 hits, landed one...tried it a few more times and blanked. Lot of boat traffic...going to try again tomorrow. Getting out early, going for a few more hours. Heard some did well, some no so much. Had to work for them, but love the season starting!
