  1. Im actually just in a learning phase with them...and keep finding them...feel like I'm doing something right. My guess is they will be in shallow for a good while. Im going to keep targeting the next 4 or 5 weekends weather permits. pm me if you are heading out. I just used a late spring program and found them today. Round 10...the sun got really bright and they moved. Something i need to work on is staying on them. Im usually spending a few hours for kings...then going for browns in the last few hours of my trip...im limited to 4 or 5 hour trips ...i fish with my son who is 11...dont want to over do it.

  2. Nick, You guys do an awesome job setting this whole event up. I am glad to be a part of it. Just like "bout time", I really had to let this event this year sink in. The vet I took out last year was supposed to come up the weekend earlier to come out with me becaues he wouldnt be able to make the salmon slam. I told him that anytime he wants to come up, I would be honored to take him out. I was up at the lake for three days working out different issues with my boat to get him out, and last minute had to cancel the trip, and honestly was even wondering if I could get the boat running for the salmon slam. A few days later, John found a way to make it up for the official slam and that same day I finally worked out the issues with my boat. I was phyched!

I was planning to head out to 400+ FOW because I heard it was good and I fish there often this time of year. As we were heading out of the chute, it was looking good...NW to 400 feet...here we ...yeah. As the waves started to build I realized it would take about 2 hours to get out to where I wanted to be and the waves were supposed to build. We decided to troll with the waves in 200 fow and see what we could do. About 30 minutes in we hooked up with a nice 18 pound king. 30 minutes later we were hooked up again...but it broke off. We trolled another 30 minutes and I looked at my dad and said lets pick up and drive back through the waves and go through the line again. Once we went to throttle is when it hit me... WOW these waves got big!  It felt like we were driving backwards! We set up about 45 minutes later and as I was putting the lines down I saw my rigger lines flying left and right, my dipsies were pulling drag and I heard Nick say he was heading in and I liked that plan. I played it safe, and a part of me wished I stayed out longer to get him on another fish or two. Tough call, I dont think there is a right decision. Let hope the fishing is just as good next year and with a little less waves!

  3. We headed out this afternoon, fished from 230-7 and went 2 for 3. Fished between hughes and pville. All three the hour after the fog lifted, then died again. Small king and a laker. One we lost was probably a laker as well...definitely not a screamer.

  4. I may be against the grain here...but i would invest money in dipsy rods and copper or lead core rods. Get plenty of spoons, echips , spindoctors....flys...etc. just my opinion. ..but look for the fish on the depthfinder until you get rigged up. This is my first year with a temp probe and it is nice, but i think the other stuff is more helpful. When the lake sets up you can see the temp break on the fishfinder.

  5. I planned to go out at 3...but had to charge a dead battery, then got about half mile past lighthouse and saw a group with a dead battery...so towed then in. Got the lines down at 530...fished until 730. I was determined to catch those frigging things on the bottom from 120-150. Struck out there!...but dipsy took a shot and landed a 5 pound king...so i said screw the bottom and brought the riggers up and landed another small king and a nice steelhead. All spoons...200 dispy and rigger down 45. Surface temp was 65...50 feet down was 45. Good luck tomorrow!

  6. We took out a friend and his two sons...11 and 13 years old. We headed out to 225 to start and stayed out from 225 to 300 all morning. We ended up boating 4( 2 steelhead 2 kings)...the kids struggled holding on and we lost 4 others right behind the boat, steelhead and one decent teens king. Also had 3 others drop off. No rhyme or reason to color pattern. All spoons, riggers copper dipsy all took shots. Only consistency we found was 50-52 surface temp.

  7. I was out today from 530-930. We ended with 6...mixed. 2 lakers...3 steelhead....1 king. No real combination of spoons worked best, typical blues greens and gold. I lost 3 others, but all different depths were hitting and everything was on spoons. Ran a 100 copper that hit a laker and king, bright orange thunderstick got the three steelhead, and the dipsy brought in the laker. The riggers took some shots 90 feet down near the end...but no one home. Bite was overall consistent, i stayed west of the pack, about half mile west of maxwell. Nothing huge...but the steelhead were flying...my son loved it. Good luck!
