Thanks for posting that link!   I drive by there every day and noticed the heavy equipment in the swamp wondering what is being done.  

Sounds like a good project though it would be nice if they could also deal with the outlet issues where it is supposed to go into Lake Ontario.   The other issue is that adjacent to the swamp is an old "sanitary land fill".    At present there aren't many fish there besides carp and tiny perch and tiny sunfish so it would be a nice recreational thing if they could get some toothy fish established.   The outlet is usually silted up to the point of having a land bridge with out water flow.  On rare occasion the water does flow for a short time but not long enough to make it an entrance for fish from the lake as other area ponds experience.

Nice to hear about this project.   Hope it makes a difference!

Kinda interesting in that I have heard that both Gander and Dicks are same company.  I have found both lacking in terms of staff knowledge and price not to mention stock in store.    I agree with orangediablo that an on line search will often find the cheapest price.

Today I drove along the lake a couple of times in the Braddock's bay area and the ice goes from shore out to the horizon.   Doesn't look thick but it's there.   Ice fishing anyone?

Someone said there were gas pockets on several of the ponds causing a few small sections of open water.

That is interesting.    The open spots look like typical open water over springs so the gas theory sounds reasonable.     The open areas around the outlets have also grown larger.

Located a couple of blocks from the lake and drive past it every day.   The last few days the only ice is that piled up on the shore.   Still very cold out there and if the engine dies you might too since the wind is pretty stiff out of the south!    What is interesting is that the ponds/bays are starting to have open spots which I assume is due to more sun the past week or so?

Your post is interesting to me in that I am new to using deep cycle batteries and need a charger.    I looked at the boat mounted chargers but the good ones are beyond my budget so will probably just get an old fashioned battery charger.  I am also wondering if a "float charger" is desirable for maintaining the battery in the winter.

What is a "two bank" charger?

Lots of places to launch but not sure about leaving a  car/trailer unattended for a few days.    I would ask NYS camp grounds about it and look at  marinas around Clayton/Cape Vincent  which are centrally located as well as Burnham state park or the state park on Wellesley Island.

Between sight seeing and fishing you could easily spend a couple of weeks up there.     

Boldt Castle on heart island and the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton are must see.   Kingston is a nice town with some good eats and an interesting museum.

No way no how no $ to do that!   They won't even do a small PCB clean up!

Many have said "just a guide" but I don't think that is the best answer.   

First, there are many variables in a trolling set up.   Speed, line size, depth, lure, etc.    I know that this sort of set-up isn't going to be truly precision but I feel I need to get within about 5' of the target depth.   The target depth being based on temperature and what I see on the sonar and where I think the fish might be and lure characteristics.   My goal, maybe unrealistic, is to know as much as possible about each variable and adjust the variables to suit the "pattern".

It seems a waste of time to drag tackle around and not know where it is.   If it isn't near the fish it seems unlikely that there will be a hook up even if the lure and its action are correct and appetizing to the fish.   I'm also concerned about being too deep and hitting bottom loosing or damaging the diver.

I feel much more confident about using a DR than a dipsy or slide diver with the major reason being the depth issue.

I was able to get one of the Precision trolling books from the library and have been having a look at it but it doesn't have info on divers.   It is interesting to see some of the line size conversions and lure info.  I'm going to try to see if any library has the BWE which is what I really want to look at.

Hopefully I'll have a better handle on all this by late next fall.

R&R SS  was where I heard about the Grasse and now again in a recent article in In-Fisherman.    Though I am not really a musky fisherman I'd love to catch one and with the smallies in the Grasse figured that if muskies aren't there I would at least find some smallie action.

I have heard about good Musky fishing in the Grasse River from a couple of sources and am wondering if anyone on this forum has fished the Grasse?

I live a couple of blocks from the big O and have been watching the shifting ice all winter.    A couple of times the Ice was on this side and it went out as far as you can see.   For the past couple of weeks we only have a couple hundred feet of ice and then water which is visible on those pictures.

I wonder how this will effect lake ecology and fishing?

I finally got a response from Eric at Slide Diver and he attached a chart for 25lb mono which is probably close enough to start with.

True but There is a listing for mono. You must use the numbers as a starting point. current and speed are also things to consider. Use the chart for approximation of depth and adjust as needed. The important thing is duplication once you have success.

Are any of the depth charts accurate for the various diver brands?   The dipsy I have comes with a chart specific to 20lb mono at a speed of 2.5 knots, so is that accurate or is it just a ballpark?   With a dipsy I assume I would not reach depth since I plan on trolling slower.   Tough to get my head around blindly dragging around a diver and waiting to see what happens and changing until I get a take.   Way too many variables all at once   (I'm not good at calculus)

I have a Fishhawk  TD so I guess I can get at least some sort of depth indication from it if I drag it from the slider diver.  I'd love to get two boats together with sonar to work up a depth chart for a known line(s).

The main reason I want to use the slider diver is that I have 7.5' rods and I'd like to get the spoon or plug way back from the diver.   I also like the idea of divers getting the lure away from the boat.    All that being said maybe the only accurate way to troll is flat lining or DR?

I'm new to this so please excuse my ignorance.   It doesn't specify line.   My understanding is that different diameters of mono perform differently with divers with larger diameter being more buoyant due to resistance moving through water.

One of those charts is for wire and the other is unspecified.   This is what is confusing to me.
