  1. All my talk about Scotty releases and here I've been using Offshore releases....apparently I don't pay attention. I'm using Offshore medium (black) and light (white) tension releases and I place the line past the half way point on the pad. Haven't had any shakers the last couple trips out. I ordered some Blacks to try them, and will do the same with Chamberlain. Gambler pink dot Magnum and regular spin and glow rigs with trash can dodgers have been the only setup that has caught lakers the last 2 trips on Huron. 2 - 10 pounders, 2 - 8 pounders, and 2 - 6 pounders. Can't say enough about the Gambler rigs. Works when nothing else will, and I've tried everything. The type of flasher depends on the day - one day will be cowbells and the next dodgers.

  2. I picked up some used Cannon Mag 10 electric downriggers this week and cannot move the boom arm locks to move the telescopic boom sections. Am I missing something? Likely a dumb question, but I've only used fixed booms in the past. The manual says move them 1/4 turn counterclockwise, facing toward the swivel end. I can't get them to turn at all, even with a wrench. The lock pin looking things don't move either.

  3. That's great news! I wonder if they offer the same deal online. I bought a few from Walmart a few months back, free shipping to the store. Our local Tackle shops don't sell them, nor do they even know about them when I ask. Salmo crankbaits are very popular here for walleye, the really tiny ones. Black is the hot color this year.

  4. A very tough day fishing. Waves, forgot my planer boards, got out there too late (noon), had equipment issues, leadcore wrapped around the prop (hence no boards [emoji53]). Took my Dad out today on Northern Lake Huron. Caught 4 nice lakers....3 in the boat....1 Monster almost in the boat [emoji25]). 2 of the fish weighed 10 pounds each. All were caught on a Gambler Magnum Pink Dot Spin and Glow with a trash can dodger. Tried cowbells, multiple colors, no fish....tried spoons, switched to dodger and blue glow spin and glows - bang. Talked to several fisherman on the water and at the launch. No lakers. A tough day. But I was thankful to find the right combination. Another score for Gambler Rigs.

95FOW (on a 1 mile flat shelf, 3 miles from shore), 10-15 ft behind ball, bouncing (more like dragging) 10 pound pancakes off the bottom. 1.5 to 2.2 mph.

  5. The normal repellents don't work on those flies. They are stable flies and they are out for blood. They are attracted to your legs (standing). Sometimes sitting helps (no joke), but likely hard to do on a sailboat. Some things that might work: white vinegar, liquid lemon joy dish soap, Avon skin so soft mixed with listerine, and fly spray (the stuff for barns). Find a Tractor Supply store or local feed store for the barnyard biting fly repellents (though highly toxic). Deet won't work.

  6. You are welcome. If you can't find a used one, I can order you one and have it shipped to your house. Just let me know.
