  1. Fished the pier heads today and got a few salmon. When I left the security guard told me the ramp is closing 10/15. It's part of the city of Rochester's harbor project. The project was to construct two small ramp sites in place of the existing large site. One on the east side on the foot print of the old Stutson bridge and one on the west side up near the turning basin. They are not in yet. So we won't be able to launch boats and fish the rest of the fall at least if not longer. Two winters ago we were able to fish all winter. We need to keep the existing ramp open. Please call the DEC Regional Fish manager Web Pearsall, DEC permit project manager for this project Tom Haley. Their number is 585 226 2466. Also contact Monroe County Fishery advisory Board. The City is selling local fishermen down the river and ruining the Charlotte area so they can get tax revenue from the proposed condos and monies from non resident boats docking in the proposed boat basin. The largest metro area on the south shore and we don't have a public ramp

  2. When I originally reviewed the plans when working for DEC Fisheries the existing ramp was to be replaced with 2 ramps. One on the west side up near turning point with parking for 12 cars/trailers. Another was to be built on the east side on the old footprint of Stutson Street bridge and again just a few parking places. Neither are built. Rochester the biggest city on the US side of Lake Ontario and facilities for boaters least to be desired. Last winter boaters could have got out all winter. Not only contact the mayor but also The Monroe County Fishing Advisory Board. I don't have a number for them but you can get it from DEC Regional Fish Manager Web Pearsall at 226 2466

  3. When I worked for DEC I seem to recall about 15 yrs or so ago Canada and the US states decided not to stock any new non native species in the Great Lakes drainage. It was about the same time that the west coast salmonids got a disease not prsent in the east. Thats why we no longer get eggs from the west coast. Whether that was the reason for not stocking stripers i can't remember. It may be also they do not want to put any more strain on the forage base

  4. So lets kill the Syracuse,Rochester, and Buffalo, Newspaper outdoor guys so they don't say anything about the great fishing.News travels fast and no one can stop it.

You don't have to worry about the Rochester paper. The outdoor section is almost non existent for fishing and hunting. It was decent with Floyd King and went downhill since. I'm going to cancel the paper

  5. I am currently having a 20# + Summer steelhead Replica mount done.(caught June Niagara Pro-am)

I will post pics as soon as i get him back.

    Jerry

    REBEL CHARTERS

I'd still take a skin mount on that fish Jerry

  7. That's good to know they have the passes. I agree, they should give you a sticker for each trailer. I not sure what's happening at the river launch as they've taken the launch fee signs down. I hope they don't close the launch?

They are planning to close the ramp when they build the condos (for those who can afford) and dig out slips for rich out of towners for temp docking. They have put in a ramp and parking for another 10 cars and trailers on the west side up river at the turn around. Another ramp is suppose to go in on the east side in the foot print of the old Stutson St bridge with limited parking. They haven't started this one yet. I think there's problems with Voyagers. Alot of parking is goimng to lost at Charlotte but the city said they will have off site parking with shuttles for events. Now thats a real drawing card. :@ Charlotte will never be the same. All in all the little guy gets screwed just so the city can get more tax base on the condos and slips

  9. Vinnie, I can't get used to Vincent, That was before DEC put in those Trout and salmon for alewife control. I thought those fish in your back packs were salmon not pike. Yes I have those blue ball tip ups. Doug and I were at Cranberry this morning jigging for perch. Nothing caught

  10. I remember shooting carp w/ the bow in the 60's at Russell's Station. The water level was about the same as it is today. Using concrete structures as my reference points. The sadest thing is that Russel's is closed. No warm discharge and no more fishing. People fished there every day of the year. Remember the commercial with the indian with a tear in his eye. Me too when I drive past there
