  1. I have the Raymarine EV200 with the steering wheel pilot.  Its steers in almost 2 straight of a line.  The only time that it went hard over was in a 40mph winds and 5 foot waves....yeah I fish some dumb conditions sometimes :)  Its the best money I even spent on the boat.  I touch the wheel twice during each trip.  Once to leave the dock and I steer my way out with the autopilot.  Then when parking the boat on the dock.  I even do my 180 turns with the unit, but that requires a Raymarine MFD to do patterns I think.

  2. I was thinking about an arch just for the rod storage on the way in/out.  I dont ride out with rods in the trees, so its a hodgepodge of built in rod holders and folding dipseys holders when riding out.  Then you have to do the rod dance to get everything setup.  Would be nice to ride out with the arch and just start throwing lines out right away.  No one really runs their rods from their arch anways....right?  Well maybe one copper down the chute.

  3. I hate my convectors - Im in the process of getting the drags rebuilt and then they are going to get sold.  The problem with mine is when I adjust the drag a lot since we fish in pretty bumpy conditions.  With brand new convectors I always had to crank the reel 2 revolutions to get the drag to reset at the new position (not sure if that is normal but they were brand new reels).

I personally run Daiwa Seagate Levelwind - the newer black and anodized orange ones.  They are pricey, but more than worth it.  I've had a single 10 color take up to 12 fish in one trip.  You'll appreciate the 6 to 1 ratio and rock steady drag when you are out of crew members that have an arm left at the end of the day.

  4. I see a few geezer spoons on eBay...says they are discontinued

The geezer spoons that are on Ebay right now are for the small version.  I found out the hard way by paying $11 for a small spoon....

  5. I think if you got close enough to another boat to cause an issue, you'd probably be swearing too much at them that they are taking out your board lines to notice you fishhawk not reading right :)

I've never had a problem with mine with running at 50khz.  I put my my ducer for the fishhawk on the port side and my raymarine 50/200 ducer on the starboard side.  Never had a problem and both units already read just fine.  Once you get rid of coated cable, you will never go back.  Once I went to the fishhawk, it made me realize how much time I spent every year messing with the darn coated cable from my old speed/temp.  The added bonus is that get less blow black with uncoated cable.

  6. We got to run some of these spoons late last summer and they are a steelhead magnet on leadcore out in the blue water. We got them late in the year so we only got a couple trips with them. I cant wait to run them for spring kings!

What colors did you run for steelhead?

  7. On lake michigan, blue RV flounder pounder had another good year.

The best spoon was one I randomly threw on a 10 color half way during a tournament.  It proceeded to take 8 hits in a 3 hour period.

I've had to replace it multiple times during the year due to having so many teeth marks on it and/or it getting bent up from trying to remove it from the mouth of a fish that had it all the way in its mouth with only the swivel hanging out.

Its the proking  PK-144 wedgie mag size.  By far it was the MPV spoon for the year.  It kinda look like the proking dragon slayer which was easily the mvp flasher of the year.

  8. Ahhh, yeah I forgot.  Yeah I think the depth is worth it.  I started with the X4D blue and then the red unit with bluetooth and surface speed added came out.  So I upgraded from an X4D to a X4D red and sold the blue X4D screen.  Now I remember why I was pissed about how they released new units in back to back years.

There is the X4, X4D blue, X4D red with bluetooth and surface speed.

  9. Is there a new display available for purchase for those of us who bought the X4D last year without surface speed and bluetooth so we can upgrade and not have to shell out another 700 bucks just for bluetooth and a surface speed option on the new model?

Yeah I bought just a the x4d screen from northwoods.  I then turned around and sold my x4d blue screen for $140 through a local classifieds.

It ended up only being $160 more which I didnt mind, but Im not sure if I would go for the price difference right now.  I really dont use the bluetooth on the unit.  When a fish hits:

    Run to grab rod

    Make sure hook is set

    Hand rod to passenger

Go mark waypoint with 1 click on my Raymarine plotter

Go grab the dog off the top of the transom - usually runs up there and starts barking at the fish

Coach person reeling in the fish

Move other rods out of the way

Adjust autopilot so fish doesnt take out any of the 11 other rods behind the boat

Go grab dog off the top of the transom again

    Grab net

    Net fish

    Take hook out

....start to wonder what my speed at depth xyz was....realized that its been 20 min and have made 8 course corrections while someone reeled in a 20lb laker with its mouth wide open sucking water the way.  Really dont have time to mess with a tablet or phone in that case to record the speed at the hit.  If anything, it would be a ton easier if there was either a) a record hit on the unit itself b) just write the darn speed down right away.  Unless you need a 2nd display, the Bluetooth is just a gimmick to me.

Now for the X4D having a surface speed....my personal thoughts are still out on that one.  With a big fiberglass boat there are already a bunch of variables that impact the paddle wheel, but it does at least give you another data point.
