  1. Started my install today and I have a question on the Smartpilot X-5R Drive. I held the wheel to starboard lock and tied the stern drive off. Drilled the torque restraint as directed. Where I get lost is installing the drive. I had to roll the drive up to align the woodruff key and steering shaft and then rotate the unit down to connect to the torque restraint. The directions did not seem very clear on this part of the install and I do not want to damage the unit. It just seems to me that you would install the drive with the stern drive centered. I'm probably missing something simple but I thought it would be better to ask. I know many members have recently purchased this unit and have probably successfully installed them already.

    Thanks for the help,

    Eric

Installing same unit on my boat. Also has to do the same thing as you did to align the woodruff key. Instructions didn't cover that issue anywhere. I turned drive unit short ways to align key and went with it but I am concerned about it as well. Other than that install going smooth.

Had the same situation when I started my install today.  If you turn all the way to starboard lock there is no way to line up the unit and have it in the proper alignment.  Im not sure why it even matters.  So did you end up must force turning the drive unit so the key matches up?

  2. So I currently have a Humminbird 597 without down imaging.  I just got an Raymarine EV200 autopilot and its runs NMEA 2000 and my current Humminbird doesnt - would require extra cables and a $200 translator.  I was taking a look at the Garmin 50dv - do you think it is a good one to go with for Great Lakes fishing?  I could sell my humming bird and use the cash towards the Garmin and I'd be almost at the same prices as trying to convert the NMEA signal on my Humminbird.

  3. Hi Guys, Im not at the stage of installing the motor yet, so, Im  sorry I cant help out. Im just laying everything out and trying to understand it. not sure about a red and black cable about 7ft. long. I don't see a place for it. Also would it be best to hook up to my raymarine rc435 chart plotter that is 9 years old or my lowrance hds7. I normally only use the lowrance as a fish/depth finder, and navigate with the raychart. any thought or tips greatly appreciated.thx

Can they even be hooked up since the Autopilot is NMEA 2000?

  4. I listed these on eBay to get some more exposure.  Usually I just sell direct but I needed to get rid of these as fast as I can to replenish my fishing fund.  Just for you guys on the forum here - if you win 2 or more lots, I will cover the shipping costs.  The current deal I have on ebay is free shipping on 3 or more lots.  If you do purchase 2 more more lots, just send me a message after the auction ends on Sunday and I will adjust the shipping costs.

Listed below are all of the links to the auction as well as the current price as of Thursday night.

  6. Would also like to know.  I previously ran a depth raider and I think there is a slight difference in speeds between the 2.  Usually I ran 1.9 to 2.2 on the depth raider.  Really what you should do is try to keep it around 2.2 to 2.4 on a Fishhawk and then record if you are catching fish at a higher or lower speed.  You can also do S curves and if they hit on the rods on the inside of the curve its a sign you are going too fast.  If they always hit on the outside rods of the curve, then you need to speed up a bit.

  7. Just got the letter from the Milwaukee marina (Lake Michigan) that there will be no boats launched until at least May 1st due to all of the marina/dock damage and that fact that there is 2 feet of ice yet.  Our usual splashdown is April 15th.  Went down there and there are docks heaved and almost a 1/3 of the plylons between the slips are bent at a 45 degree angle or more.  Im not sure how they are even going to fix those.  Man this winter really sucks....

  8. So I got another massive collection of spoons recently.  I kinda got burnt a bit on the description and quality of the spoons, so after spending hours cleaning everything Im going to be selling off most of them.  It was one of those deals where the seller said they had 500 spoons and only took pictures of the 50 good ones.  In order to try to get some of my money back out, I'm going to sell most of them - but I need to know what a few are that I couldnt ID.

If you can help me ID these in the pictures below, it would be a ton of help.

Here is a part of the collection minus a few mags I already sold and around 50 pro kings I already have set aside.

Notice the huge pile on the bottom left - those are the spoons that even after cleaning are in that great of condition.

Spoon ID needed on this one - they kinda look like NorthPort but have a slightly different blank.

I think these are NorthPort but not sure since they are unmarked.

These ones I have no idea.  They have a reverse V in them - all I know is I have a ton of them.

The last one is a scalloped blank - have no idea what they are.
