I ended up wiring each downrigger back to the battery individually with a #10 wire. I originally wanted to wire them in series because I mounted them on a board and I wanted it to be removable. Everything worked out well and I think it was best to wire them individually and keep the wires out side of my mounting board.

I finally finished my removable downrigger board. I got an aluminum 2" x 4" from a dock builder near where I live. I put cannon track on top of the 2" x 4". I used Big Jon 6" stanchion mounts for my riser between the boat and the 2" x 4" and I used a big Jon quick mounting bases so it is all removable.

Has anyone tried the Bloodrun hi vis mono backing? Is it better to stick with power pro? The Bloodrun must be larger diameter line.

i have a inside dimension of about 1 7/8 outside is 2 1/2 depth is 2 1/2 that tappers down to 2 then there is a nipple on the bottom that is 1 inch by 3/4 there is 2 set screws in the side of the cup to tighten to the mast if this sound about right let me know ill keep checking on here for a reply
I think that sounds about right.

i think this is the one your looking for ? look about right do you have the dimensions for the hole and the pole
That looks like the one. The outside diameter of the mast pole is 1 7/16", so about 1 1/2".

I have 2 that bolt to the gunnel and the mast fits inside of it with the hand nut on the side. Not sure if this is what you need
I need the one in the picture above. I have a Lund and it has a seat in the front. This base allows you to plug the planer mast into the seat base. You don't have to bolt it to your boat.

Is an Okuma Convector CV-45D or Magda MA-45DX big enough to hold enough power pro backing for a 500' 45# copper setup? I'm thinking about getting a copper rod and I think I want it on a reel with a line counter. It seems like they don't make a reel bigger than a size 45 with a line counter. They make the Convector 55 but it doesn't have a line counter. The Tekota 800 seems like the best reel for a 500' copper setup but it's pretty expensive.

Sounds like the consensus is that the Convectors are worth the extra money. Thanks for all the advice.

What size reel do I need to get for a 1000' 30# wire diver setup? Will I be able to get 1000' on an Okuma Magda Pro 30DX or will I need to get the 45DX?

I see an issue here - your common positive to your battery needs to have the appropriate gauge wire (or a common fuse between the riggers and battery) so that it can handle the draw of all three riggers. Otherwise this could be a fire hazard.
It's the same as if you wired all three to a common buss bar (each rigger fused separately) and the common wire coming from the buss bar to your battery switch needs to be of adequate gauge to handle the load.
Good luck,
Chris
I emailled Scotty and they just responded. They told me the same thing that you said. They told me that I need one more fuse within 7" of the battery

I just got 3 Scotty 1106 downriggers and I'm going to mount them on my boat. Does each downrigger need to be wired on a home run back to the battery or can they be wired in series so that I only have one wire going back to the batteries? I'm thinking I'll use a #10 wire. Any input would be apprediated.

Their phones are no longer in service.

Is Brett' Place on the Bay still in business? I was getting ready to order a couple of wire dipsy rods from them and their web site doesn't come up any more. Who else sells pre rigged wire and copper set ups like theey did?

I take my uncle with me some times and he can never keep the boat going in a straight line!

I do a fair amount of fishing by myself an an autopilot would make life much easier for me. Are there any inexpensive systems out there? I have an 18 foot Lund with a Honda 130 on it. I troll with that motor and don't run a kicker.
I fished with a guy one time that had one and I think it would be very helpful for me. His was an older one that ran off of a compass heading. It had a small motor that was attached to the steering wheel. Do the newer ones run through GPS?

Are the components for these track systems interchangeable? It seems like Bert's has the best rod holders. Which system is the best? I want to add one of them to my boat this year.

Do you still have them?

What are you guys running for downrigger weights? I just picked up a set of Cannon Mag 10's and I need to get some weights. I'm looking for recommendations for size and type.
I used to run unitroll 10's with 8 lb cannon ball weights, I got fed up with them two weekends ago when we were out there fishing 160' down.

They were the plugs that came with the Scotty Downriggers. They are a two prong twist lock plug. It is really a nice system. So far I'm impressed with the Scotty's.
