Diawa Accudepth line-counter reels are inexpensive and sized right for browns. I spool up with 15 lb mono and leader down to 12 lb mono. Fishermen east of Olcott usually run Fluorocarbon leaders because of clearer waters. The 7' one piece light-action ugly stick rod is a perfect match. You could always use spinning reels or bass baitcasters you may own if you don't want to buy anymore tackle. Your salmon reels spooled with 30 lb mono work good when you want to pound the shoreline with your boards. The heavy line keeps your baits running high so not to snag bottom (just add a leader of lighter line and set the drag lighter- for the leader material)
I second the Daiwa Accudepth's I use them for walleyes and browns and lakers in the spring. We use uglysticks as well and i use 15lb mono down to 10lb fluoro leaders for the walleyes and trout.

Very nice looking spoon PD! I have always been a fan of the brown trout colored rapalas. I imagine this spoon will be killer as well!

Great thread guys! (Just found it). Down here in DE it has been a weird season. I personally have been seeing very few deer, but others are seeing tons. My buddy got a real nice one (10pt in pics below) the first week of November, a couple hundred yards from my stand, and I finally got on the board with a decent 7 point (2nd pic). Sounds like the seasons are all jacked up up there. We have it easy. Bow season goes from September 1st to January 31st each year with 2 weeks of shotgun and 2 weeks of muzzleloader mixed in. 4 doe tags with your license and you can buy 2 buck tags, (1 quality, 1 choice) and an unlimited amount of extra doe tags if you want them.
Good luck the rest of the season guys! I still have a couple bruisers I am chasing around and getting ready for ducks. Before you know it I'll be getting the boat ready for browns and the walleye opener up there!

Hey Moose we found 1 worm in one of the smaller drum. I've never found more than one in any fish and they are easy to cut out. I really like eating black drum.
Here is a link to an article I wrote with my favorite Drum recipe, "Buffalo Drum Fingers" but I guess anything fried and with buffalo sauce can't be bad

Haha it is wild. They only "drum" sometimes, I've caught a bunch when you don't hear them at all, and sometimes everytime you start to hear them its game on. They only hang around this area from the end of April until the middle of June, but its a fun time they pull like freight trains.

This link has audio of what they sound like, you can hear them when they swim close to the boat. On calm nights you can hear them from hundreds of yards away

You can hear them "drumming" under the boat! It is pretty wild if you've never heard it.
Trying my luck at trolling flies...
