Late report from Friday, they have been catching black drum in the DE Bay the last couple weeks and myself and some buddies decided to go out after these big bruisers Friday evening.

Well it blew its butt off all day Friday and I checked the forecast every 15 minutes to make sure it was still supposed to lay down as predicted in the evening. Well after fighting beach traffic for 2 and a half hours (when drive to ramp usually takes an hour). We finally pulled in to the public ramp at Mispillion inlet and headed out to the Coral Beds off Slaughter Beach. I feel bad for anyone from Jersey as the 20+ mph west winds most likely canceled eveyone's outings.

We set up in some slop in 15' of water around 7:00pm. The traffic made us miss the last hour of outgoing I was planning on fishing and we arrived at slack tide. We were bothered with some sharks and a big cow nose ray that fooled us into thinking we had our first drum on. Then when the sun went down, the wind laid down and tide started moving again. We started hearing some drum under the boat and around 8:45 we finally hooked into a drum. I passed the rod off to my buddy JB who had never been drum fishing before. After a nice fight I sunk the gaff into a nice 25-30# drum. Perfect eating size.

I rebaited and 5 minutes later I was hooked up again. This time I passed the rod to Walt who also never caught a drum before. You could tell from the begining this was a nice fish. It took Walt around the boat and under the anchor line. Went on some drag screaming runs and after atleast 30 minutes, he finally had a nice 60# fish boat side. We decided to take this fish as well and in the box it went. After that my buddy Tom broke one off. Walt hooked into one but a fray in his braid broke the line way up the line. After getting resituated Walt hooked into another and after a short fight another 30# drum was in the cooler.

After that it got slow for an hour. We had another school come through as we could hear them. We had a couple more bites but missed. With it being 11pm we decided to head in and call it a night.

It was a great trip and a lot of fun!

Must have missed these when you posted them, awesome pictures of Hunter on the boat! He'll be out fishing with you before you know it!

I have mirrored lenses on my Oakleys and I love them. I definitely think they help better than regular lenses when out in the sun all day staring at the glare on the water.

Another great report Devin! Definitely will be up in August, but I think I need to come up and fish with you one weekend soon!

Also let me know when you want to try to schedule that tuna trip!

Heard great things about Costa's but I love my Oakleys. As others have said make sure you get the polarized lenses as some are not. Great quality and a lot of styles are a little cheaper than the Costa's

We went out on Sunday morning to target walleyes but with the flat calm conditions we decided to run out to stony to try for browns. After going 1 for 4 on browns right away it got very slow. We made a move and got into some nice Lakers. Went 4 for 5 on some nice fish in about an hour and a half. Caught 2 on spoons off the boards and 2 on spoons on the downrigger. Great fights on light tackle. Ended up catching 3 of the fish on spoons we made.

Trailered the boat up to Bedford Creek on Friday night to fish the weekend. Got out saturday morning for our first walleye trip on Lake Ontario. With a bunch of tips from my buddy Devin (FleetTracker) we hooked up with a nice eye on the first rod we put on the board. After that it was slow for us for a while. After a move we ended up putting 2 more walleyes and a pike in the boat. We also released 2 nice smallies. It was a great day. Took all fish off stickbaits on the boards.

I have used these clips for over 10 years. They are cheap and effective. Depending on how deep you bury your line, they will handle anything up to 300 copper. Homemade and reliable.

I probably have 4 dozen and never had a problem.

Nice fish.  I decided just this week to scrap my trip to the Hudson next month.  Those Stripers are awesome.  They should be closed to commercial fisherman or at least restricted to hook and line.

Yes we are constantly arguing over what to do with stripers down here in the DE/Chesapeake Bay regions and further south. Way to many are taken by commercial netters in my opinion.

There are schools of bunker around in the Bay. We saw a ton all over the place yesterday. We do not net our own as getting on top of them with cast nets is almost impossible. A local tackle shop nets them and we buy them fresh out of the net. Fresher the better down here

Looks like you're fishing out of a Proline. Mine is setup the same way.

Yes sir its my new (to me) boat I got last year. 21' Proline, 1980 hull. I love this thing. Trailering it up to Henderson 1st weekend in May.

Heading up to the Lake for the Walleye opener in a couple weeks. But the stripers are just starting to turn on down here. Managed a nice 25#ish fish last night chunking bunker and 4 shorts. Will be trying again on Saturday in the DE Bay.

How does the season run in DE?

With the NY season going through 4/15/15, the daily limit at 25 and an unlimited possession limit, what's not to like?

Sorry for the late response Chasdc1 - Our season in DE starts when ducks and geese go out. Usually Feb 1st and runs through the middle of April. Although most of the geese are usually gone by the end of March
