  1. Exactly right Money Shot. Just attach one end of the wire to your main line and the other end to your leader. I started off with a short lead to make sure I could see the strike, but after seeing the footage I'm confident I could see beyond 8 foot. The fun part about this camera is going home at the end of the day and fast forwarding through 5 hours of footage to see what was following and never hit. Like I mentioned there were at least 15 on Sunday and that was only one rod. Is it too much to assume there may have been 60+ fish following and not hitting on all four rods. Crazy to think that may be the case. Frogger, that spoon Bloody Death is made by Dream Weaver and is my go-to spoon for Lakers. I have 4 that should probably be replaced as the Lakers have chomped most of the paint and stickers off of them. Here is a pic... Bloody Death.bmp
  2. I'm on it Gill-T. I fish that area quite a bit and was wondering the same. As soon as I get some footage I'll post it.
  3. You can't beat cottage country huh Chas? Absolute heaven up there. We've been making Nipissing a yearly thing recently. Looking forward to fishing for eyes up there end of June! Sent from my SM-G920V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. "When Lake Trout Scream" I like it Gill T. You're my new producer. Sent from my SM-G920V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. How do you know about that lake? Do you get up there in that area at all? Sent from my SM-G920V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Yeah, in Novar. We have had a cottage on that lake since 1949. My grandparents built and we've had it ever since. We scuba dive there every year feeding the bass clams. Pretty cool how they act like you're one of them when you're down there with them. Wonder if trout and salmon would be the same? Sent from my SM-G920V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. I threw the spoon back 6 feet from the camera. Next time out it's going on a Spinny with an 8 foot lead to see what the quality of the footage is on a dipsy.
  8. Oh no doubt. If a Laker hit looks that viscous can't wait to see what a King does. Went out yesterday and what a difference a week makes in lure preference (daily or hourly too I know). There must have been 15-20 Lakers that came up quickly and did a quick U turn inches from the spoon. They just didn't like that color yesterday. One wasn't so lucky and ended up getting his anal fin caught in the U turn. I swore I had my first King of the year as he stripped off ~500 feet of line and we had to turn and chase him. Completely disappointed when I saw him come to the surface fin caught. Best Laker I ever fought though LOL. I'll keep posting more videos throughout the season...
  9. I decided to break out the new Water Wolf camera last weekend knowing that the Laker action was on and that there would be a few willing participants to video. Headed out of Wilson at 7am to 70 FOW and was immediately into the action. Spinny/flies did most of the damage down 40' and Bloody Death spoons did the rest on the bottom. Headed back in at 11am and finished 25 for 27 with plenty of camera footage to go home and review. I'll include the link below, but if that doesn't work go directly to Youtube and search Laker 4/16/16. When I uploaded the video to Youtube I was a pretty disappointed in the reduction of quality, but that was the only way I could figure out how to share the 165 MB file. When uploaded to Youtube the green is much darker and the overall image is not as clear. The quality of the original footage is pretty incredible in the depth of water I was fishing. In 80 FOW (the deepest that day) I could easily see the ripples in the sand on the bottom as well as what the species of fish that were following or hitting. The attached pic is the one on video. Enjoy ! ! Tony https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKNw7UFnl7w
  10. Thanks guys. That gets me going in the right direction... The help is always appreciated ! !
  11. Thank you as always for the quick responses boys! I'll give them a look. Tony
  12. Thanks Dan, I see there are a few different styles that claim to be "torpedo". There is one that looks like a true torpedo, another that has a fin that drops down on the back and another that looks like a shark. Do any of these work better over the other? I was wondering if there is any tracking issues with the torpedo that doesn't look like it has a fin to keep it moving in a straight direction. The last thing I want are a bunch of tangled lines. Thoughts?
  13. Hey guys, Starting to look forward to next season and I'd like to get a few things bought and out of the way so I can hit the water running next year. I run Cannon 5ST's with 8 pound round weights that give tremendous blow back. I want to get away from those and get something with a lot less blow back. 1. What will my Cannon 5ST handle for weight (12,16?) and 2. what shape works best for you guys for the least amount of blow back? Thanks, Tony
  14. Straight out from Fort Niagara is the beginning of the bar and it continues out 3.8 miles to the red buoy where it drops off quickly from 45' to beyond 180'. I have been taking most of my fish this summer on that drop off fishing 45 feet down over 65 to 110 feet of water. Mostly small Kings, Cohos and Steelies with 10 or so mature Kings the past couple of weeks, but the Browns have evaded me all summer. To be honest I got into trolling this year because of Browns and I have caught everything but them. I'm trying not to get too worried that I'm doing something wrong because everyone I talk to say they went somewhere else this year until now where they seem to be showing up at the mouths of rivers and creeks for the fall run.
  15. So I spent the day on the bar and went 18 for 22. Fun to say the least but no matures coming to the net. After the East wind I didn't expect that much so I was happy when I brought in 18 steelies and cohos. So the entire time I'm out I must have counted 100 fish jump with several of them almost hitting the boat. I personally thought they were steelies but I see in another post Gill T say they were Browns feeding? I've been looking for them all summer and now they're messing with me? So my question is are these Browns fishable? When they're on the surface what can you put out to entice them? Do you skip a fly on the surface? I had some presentations up high around 20' in hopes of getting something coming up. Apparently I wasn't high enough. Were these really Browns because they all looked like the 9 pound steelies I was getting all night. Thoughts??
  16. Ironically, I was just going to post something regarding scents right now and as I was browsing topics I saw this. I was going to ask if artificial scents work or not. I bought this stuff called "Lunker Lure" specifically for salmon a few years back for the fall stream runs before I began trolling but never really used it. Now that I am on the lake trolling my son who found this in my tackle box keeps bugging me to use it on all our spoons. Has anyone had any luck with any artificial lure? And if real scents work as well as mentioned above I wonder why there isn't more talk about it on here when guys post reports. I would think more reports would look like: "went 10 for 12 today, NBK smeared with alewife scent was the hot lure today" or is it just common knowledge that I wasn't up to speed on? Makes sense to me that a fish would smack a spoon much sooner while following it trying to figure out if it's a valid dinner if it smelled more like dinner.
  17. Thanks guys! As usual, all great advice!
  18. So I began the daunting task of researching a new Fish Finder/GPS and as expected I feel like I'm going to make the wrong decision and buy something with a lot of fluff or the opposite and not get exactly what I need. I've been looking at the Lowrance Elite 5 HDI trying to keep it within a $600 budget. I'd like to hear some thoughts you guys may have on things I don't want to be without and conversely things I could do without. What units have been working good for you guys and what ones to stay away from. Is Navionics worth the extra few bucks, etc... Thanks, Tony
  19. Great ideas gentleman! My interest has swayed toward this type of fishing and my hopes are that by next season or the next I have a boat better suited for this type of fishing. What I have is getting me by but I'm getting tired of being blown off the lake by average waves and not being able to set up my boat exactly the way I'd like. I'll have to figure out somewhere to put it. I can't have you guys say "I told you so". Thanks again ! !
  20. Hey guys, I'd like to hear your thoughts on having a second battery for running two Cannon Mag 5's. I certainly understand it's best practice but hear me out. I have what you might say is a non conventional fishing boat. It's a Sea Ray open bow run about and I have looked in every nook and cranny for a good spot for a second battery. There simply isn't one. I just bought 2 Mag 5's and I'm wondering how much of an issue it's going to be to run them on my only battery. My thoughts are that I'm trolling and the engine should be charging the battery but I'm not sure if the riggers will be over the top for what my boat puts out for amperage. Anyone hear any horror stories running this configuration?
  21. Thanks guys, Hoping to give it a try this weekend ! !
  22. Yeah, I've worked that area in April for Lakers and tried to keep the spoon near bottom but with the fluctuating depths it was non stop readjusting the rigger depth. I was thinking about going out there with Navionics and find a line of common depth and try to follow that to prevent my arm from falling off from readjusting depths or donating lead to the lake bottom. Definitely a difficult area to troll but sounds like the payoffs are worth it. Thanks for the great tip ! !
  23. So Gill-T, are you saying there are Browns on the bar or no? With the depths that vary through there I would think you could find 60 degrees but like you said there is warm water from the Niagara flowing in.
