  1. Frost:

I have one season on 3 Pfluger presidents used casting for walleye. Zero problems, one holds 160' 10lb braid, & the other two hold 190' of 10lb braid (not sure of the sizes).  Great drags & easy to use.

    John

bought a pfluger president for my wife for Christmas will let you know how we do with it. Im hoping the shimano stradic is more durable as I will be doing lots of casting in lakes and ponds and using it on the big rivers during cold weather. its drags are waterproof and the shimano stradic is salt water ready. 2 big pluses for me.

  2. Good I'm glad they work got U , Cleo's always got it done for me ! However I didn't dpend a lot of time on jetties , just blow days , even then bay had enough trout to satisfy charter .

We jig & squid with them sil / gld best colors with tape !

its funny you said cleo's that is what i used to use until a freind let me use a 3/8 ounce kroc silver prism for lake trout . we were casting off shore in early spring and there were 8 others there. that krocodile outfished the other 8 fisherman 3 to 1 and my 2nd laker was a nice 10 lber. been hooked ever since. they really work great at night also for browns and salmon. my problem is i cant find my rainbow colors in the plain finish with the tannest back. all them now are holographic that seem to be to shiney on certain days.

  3. No for Stripers in fall all 5 / 7 oz Crocks , no meed for Macketel pattern since R mackerel runs r a thing of the past in mid atlantic !

When I chartered Lk O , late 70's thru early 90's , I personally never used the crocks except to cast from Sodus Pt jetties !

mackeral a thing of the past on the mid atlantic? i use them for years here on champlain and they are great for lakers browns salmon and even bass. so when i go to pulaski next month i will spin cast them off the selkirk wall for browns. might have to change my favorite rainbow color but have many more available. the silver prism works really well for lakers her so im going to try them out there also. with the 5 to 7 ounce krocs do you just jig with them?

  4. In salt we always use them in squidding / jig mode ! Trolling they exibit slower wobble hence that jig motion when casting enhances strikes !

Sti one of the hottest Striper spoons for fall jigging in ocean!

i assume your using the 1 ounce for jigging for stripers. have you tried the mackeral krocs at all? been wondering about them since i have 2 or 3

  5. has anyone out there seen any 1/4 oz or 1/2 ounce krocs in the rainbow color with the flat finish (tan or an off white) on the bottom anywhere ? all im seeing now is the holographics krocs for sale now. i would like to buy some of those with the plain finish on them. would appreciate some info if you know where i can buy some.

  6. Would like to! Getting a big time ankle surgery in mid march from old sports issues and April I am taking my caption license exam so that class is every sat and sunday in April from 9am-430 pm so my spring looks like it SUCKS

maybe take a weekday off work and get out on the boat.... wading will be out of the question because I will be in a cast for 4 weeks then a boot for another 4 lol

hope everything goes smooth for you so you can get out there and do your thing. also thanks for the help with my matching a reel for my new salmon/steelehead rod.  tight lines.

  7. Another emphatic vote for buying locally. Small shops support not only the fisherman in a community, but, the community as a

whole.  I only purchase from a big box store if absolutley necessary and almost never buy online. Cabelas, Dicks, Gander, etc.

may have prices that are a little better, but, the overall better value is with smaller vender.  Buy locally and say "Thank You!"

it depends on where you live. in small rural towns there isnt much to  shop with and even buying your nightcrawlers are hard to find. if you live in a good size poplulation and near lakes yes its possible to shop locally. i try to shop locally ist then if i cant i reach out to ebay etc.example some of us like to use wax worms and on several occasions here locally i couldnt get them in the past or now.both bait shops cant get them for me? so i either get them at wal mart which bothers me or i have to order online . i have several freinds in dfferent towns are running across the same thing.

  8. Yes Cabelas has sure gone downhill. I've been doing business with them since they opened in the sixties or so and they used to be great price-wise and quality-wise but not lately on either. Lately a few things I received had been previously opened/used and then sent onto me as brand new. They are good about sending stuff back still but that is about it. Their stores are nothing to write home about either now.

i also have been doing business with cabelas for years. ordered some nice jackets for my daughter-in-law and granddaughter for christmas when they opened them up christmas morning to our surprise my daughter-in-laws jacket had a big burn mark on the chest. how could not someone notice this. sent it back with no problems and got a refund. i just bought a new salmon steelhead rod from them also and i havent used it yet but has a 5 year fenwick warranty. i do local as much as i can but something like this wouldnt be able to get here from our bait and tackle stores.

  9. I agree, this is the 4th winter I've been drifting trout with mine and have yet to have a break down, need to chip the ice off the roller every once in awhile hahahaah, but that reel just keeps on going, never any problems. It's worth the little extra $$$$$, lots of other higher end reels loose the anti-reverse or bog right out in the cold, not the Stradic, it's bullet proof

sounds like your a frostbiter also. tough conditions and we need a tough reel. my fenwick rod and the reel will be used exclusivly in early spring fall and winter mostly in rivers and off shore lake fishing where its ice free. i have checked my reels that i have bought in the past few years still in boxes and i have a cabelas verona also a cabelas tournament and my wife has a pflueger president that i bought for her a few years ago so it looks like im going to go with the shimano stradic just for this rod since i will be using mostly during frostbite season.

  10. My buddies and I are taking our annual trip and have decided to try Chazy Lake and surrounding area. Just wondering if there are any good bait shops up that way that way. Will take any advice for Chazy/ Chateaugay lakes or even Champlain. Gonna try for some perch/lakers/wwolves. Got a spot to get on at Chazy. Any good, safe spots to get on Chat? Thanks for any help.

there is a bait shop in chazy a freind just advise me . he thinks its l&m bait shop.

Also, any suggestions on jiggin lakers, I have the general idea just curious on line size and rod length preferred?

Thanks again any help is appreciated

  11. I would hope so - based on the date it wasn't walleye season yet.

i would have anyhow since we were fishing browns . fish eyes all winter on the st lawrence and champlain with a limit of 3 so one eye from ontario wasnt going to make a difference in my freezer. i release lots of fish all year long and im very selective on ones to eat.
