  1. Great job! Same for us today - went to the bar and only got 2. Where did you go out of? We are going out tomorrow and Tuesday. Good luck~
  2. The bar - hadn't thought of that so much thank you for the idea. We stay in Olcott so that is our go to. Perhaps we will start at the bar Sunday and see what happens. Didn't do well at the bar last month so I was a little gun-shy. Definitely appreciate the advice!
  3. Location question this weekend Greetings! We are coming up this weekend for three days - Sun-Tues and debating to go out of Olcott or Oak. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated thanks! Captain Jerry
  4. Thanks guys. It sounds like October is too late. We are gonna make it out another time or two in September. For us in Erie, Walleye fishing doesnt heat up until october. If any of you need info on Eyes on Eris in the fall feel free to contact me. I have chartered and been fishing eyes in the fall for over 20 years and know them inside and out. We are gonna try to head up to Olcott in the next couple weeks for a trip or two. Any further info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
  5. Generally, what is the latest you guys fish for salmon out of Olcott? I am guessing through late October at least, the fish would move back out into the lake during daytime. I want to plan at least one more trip before the season ends Thanks guys!
  6. does anyone have the address to this launch please?
  7. I have fished the bay quite a bit - can be amazing or horrible depending on where you are. Be sure to find a good topo map and study it - you can go from 150' up to 2' in the blink of an eye.
  8. Thanks guys thats perfect. I run close to the same thing here in Ohio for the Eyes.
  9. thats where i found it thanks! http://www.fishhawkelectronics.com/salmon-walleye-fishing/preferred-water-temperature
  10. I remember seeing a temperature chart showing which types of salmon like what water temps. Does anyone have a kink to it or a chart ? thanks!
  11. I've been reading anywhere from 20' to 50' for leaders. What is best? I will be running lead and braided both depenging... i also assume you guys run leaders both before and after your dipsys?
  12. Anyone running stingers?
  13. i have 27's for trolling on erie with 80# braid but that is for walleye. if you need decent sized reels for wire without breaking the bank try Penn 309M's. they are just big enough to fit some backing, a couple hundred yards of wire and then a leader. i get em for about $59 each. no line counters, but with color coded wire you wont need a counter. decent reel all stainless steel and a pretty strong drag
  14. Thats perfect thank you! We don't have serious currents to worry about on Erie. I remember the currents really messed with me previously. That will definitely play with my speed and direction of the bait.
  15. i appreciate that thank you. What fow are the fish generally in this time of year? I remember different depths for different strains...
  16. Thank you Paul I appreciate that.
  17. I'm a bit of a cooler snob. Im not into Yeti but i do have a couple pelicans - amazing coolers with a lifetime warranty. i also have a giant coleman. it depends on your usage... the pelican will keep fish frozen for almost a week - crazy good. the coleman only a day or two at most. the one drawback to the pelican and yeti type product is the weight, and reduced storage area from the excessive wall thickness. it really depends on what you want. i bought the pelican because i wanted my fish to stay safe for a day or two if i couldnt get to them quickly. well worth the money in that aspect. i use them all!
  18. Hello everyone. I am a "retired" charter captain out of Cleveland on Lake Erie and am looking to make a run up to Olcott next sunday-Tuesday for some salmon chasing. I haven't been up there in years and was hoping to get a little updated info. I would be more than happy to share some info on Erie and Walleye if anyone is planning on coming down here. Anyway I will be running 2 riggers and also some lead lines on boards. Mostly, I was hoping to find out how the fishing is up there right now and roughly where they are right now out of Olcott. I'm guessing 1.7-2.3 mph is a good starting point and generally I run the large Stingers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and I hope everyone is having a successful fishing season! Jerry
  19. great guys thanks. as the wind pushes the fish east does it also just push them north to deeper water? im not going to go east of olcott unless necessary.
  20. That is very helpful thank you. I will plan on july - I know we may head out around the 10-12th or so. I have heard july is better than june - curious. the mag dipsys are crazy - I only use them here once in a while when I need to get to the bottom. so those salmon are down 50+'. makes sense...
  21. Hello everyone I am looking for a bit of help please. I am a retired charter captain from the Cleveland area in lake erie looking to come up to olcott to do a little salmon fishing in the next few weeks. could anyone help me with the vitals in that area this time of year please? I would guess anytime from the end of june through the end of july. I am looking for fow the fish are at, speed and anything else you care to share. if your salmon are like my steelies we go around 3mph anywhere between 20-50 depth in 70 fow. that is about as deep as erie gets tho... I am planning on using dipsys, jets and boards mostly. will be pulling stingers for sure. thank you so much and happy fishing! jerry
