I have 10 of them when I got them 6 years ago I took them apart and powder coated them to match my boat. I have never had a problem but I do go through them at the end of every year just to tighten up anything that may have gotten sloppy

Nothing beats a kicker with trollmaster to control your exact speed

X2I have installed 2 Raymarine hydraulic AP's on outboards so I'm familiar with those caps/plugs. It tripped me up on the first install as well. That one was a conversion from cable to hydraulic steering so new helm, steering cylinder, ect.
Hope it works well for you on the water, I'm sure you'll love it. Nothing like the freedom of setting lines or just hanging out in the back of the boat while the AP drives. Thanks for the write up.....good read.

@Zinger11 do you run the transom mount ducer?
Yes, if I have any issues with the set up is when I run a split screen with sonar and 3d I will mark fish in sonar directly under the boat that don't show up in the 3D screen

I run the Raymarine Axiom on both my boats and have them tied to my autopilot. The main reason I bought them was not for the 3D though it's pretty cool

I did do it myselfThanks Zinger11
Did you install your self ? Does this set up eliminate the power steering pump on the mercruiser ?
What kind of autopilot did you go with? Thank you
Seastar offers 2 choices on the cylinder I choose to use my power assist even though 90% I'm running just my kicker and my main engine is off as far as my autopilot Raymarine ev-150 connected to my raymarine axiom

Just make sure you have the room to get the seastar piston into the power assist
