  1. We went out at night for a very brief troll...lol...without any moon it is frn black on that lake! We stayed at kirks (great place!!)..and there are hazards all over around there. Then there was lightning heading out way and we said to he'll with it. I think you mentioned moonlight would be a good thing...so true.

  2. I just got back myself from 4 1/2 days on Big Gull. Being my first time there I gotta call it a success. We ate walleye every day (blackened walleye with eggs was excellent! :))...and brought limits home. Like other have said...most fell into slot. Wind was pretty strong most days which made us work at it. Most fish came in 13 to 16 which differed big time from previous post that said 17 to 25 I think. Highlight was gorgeous 40" northern my buddy got on tiny jig on 4 lb test. Truly beautiful fish...which was released. Funny...most fish in there seem skinny. The eyes are long and pretty thin. The northern only weighed 10lbs with head the biggest part of it. There's lots of forage in there...bait everywhere so the lack of girth on all fish is kind of odd. No doubt I'll be going back though!

  3. I put this in the musky forum given the assumption the musky guys do more border zigzagging than most. At a boat show in Clayton this spring there were some Canadian customs guys wandering around and I had a chat with em. They said...if fishing in Canadian waters you can call in for clearance if you have a nexus card. If not you're supposed to check in physically. That goes for all on the boat. He went into how you'll be warned the first time and if there's a second time it could get ugly. This sounds like big PITA. I don't venture over there often. For me it would be out off the mouth of the SLR by charity or pigeon shoal. Sure I can get a nexus card but odds are good that at times I'll have someone with me w/o one. Id be reluctant to go all the way to wolf island or kingston to check in. Did I interpret all this correctly?

  4. Hello all...i got lots of good info when I started this thread last summer. Right now it's the ca-ching sound of the cash register as I work on collecting lures etc for the upcoming season. Lol.. I'm looking at bucktails now. What are your favorite colors for the SLR area? Has anyone used the "fat slob" bucktails made up in Ontario.? They're look great to me....any other bucktails suggestions? Thanks!

  5. The way it was explained to me...higher water is good thing although it's at extreme right now. Northerns and musky will go into swamps that have been dry in recent years ..spawn and head back to lake. Water will recede to point that predators will not be able to get into swamp.. pike and musky fry will have a year to grow before going into lake. This bodes well for future if they stay with " The plan".
