The gill net used was one having a one inch stretch mesh. It was very selective in taking alewife. You will probably be considered as raping the alewife population and shunned by neighbors.

[emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23] for sure. Wouldn't a gill bet be more destructive than a cast net

You woul never catch them with a cast net unless they are near piers or harbor docks. Adult alewives can scoot!
Gill you are right my friend! Will try a different approach. Thanks as always brother!

Kring point is the destination. June 24th through the 28th. I have had luck before in the river up near jack cater state park. This is new territory for me lots of shoals and islands to fish off of but I have no idea where to start or what to use. I am a lake trolling guy but enjoy the islands for small mouth and pike. Drifting with live bait seems to work for me and the crew (my old lady and brother) but I'm looking for any insight on hot spots and technique. I have the trolling gear (riggers and dipsys leadcore and copper) every lure you can imagine but I don't have lots of time to dial in for days. The LOU has a great community of fisherman and I figured what better place to ask from the greatest anglers in the world (gambler,Yankee)[emoji6]. Lucky to have this community tight lines!

I'm wondering if 80lb mono would work for pike. Figured it's low visual. Would it be strong enogh?

Thanks will give it a shot. Too bad you can't use a cast net.

Was thinking of using a cast net to catch some alewife and brine them and use them in meat rigs. Any thoughts?

Browns were good this year in front of rochester. I do think it is kinda slow but water is cold fish are everywhere and so is Bait. Makes it hard to catch a fish with a full belly. No thermo set up yet so fish can be anywhere.

Was wondering if the launches are closed both sides? I wish they updated the list of closed state launches.

25$ for okuma classic trolling rods on amazon

Definitely will drag with waves but it can add some action and also give false releases I'd just use dipsys with steel line.

I have big planer boards and run 400 and 30p copper. Use rubber bands to avoid kinks on the copper. They will break when a fish hits if you use the right bands.

7 Color Leadcore Reel I purchased some Okuma Classic Pro GLT rods, Suffix Performance 18lb Leadcore, 20lb Suffix Elite Mono, and Seagur flouro to set up 2 rods for 7 color lead core walleye rods. Can I get away with 250yds of mono backing, 70yds of lead core, and 25yrds of leader on an Okuma Madga 30DX, or should I go with the larger 45dx???
It all depends on line diameter. All line has a diameter written on the box. Braided line has better strength with less diameter and also last a lot longer. I use the 45 okuma for everything including salmon. I work 20lb power pro as a backer on most reels copper and lead core.

I use the main engine with a trolling plate. 100s of hours on it every year and it's an 89.

Thanks for the report. I am out of ibay/rochester and have yet to really get time to troll except for browns earlier with success. Do lakers suspend in the water colum at 50' in 100+fow? I always thought they are bottom dwelling fish. Will report my catch later this week.
