  1. Looking to see if there's any interest in this. I no longer tie or fly fish so I'm cleaning it out. This bench was hand made. It's 21" long X 15" deep. I'll include the vise, bobbin, and all the other little tools and gear. Some feathers, fur, string, cork popper heads etc included. I'm slowly trying to build my trolling gear and could be interested in trades. I'd hope for local pickup around buffalo but will ship if needed. Make me a reasonable offer !

  2. Following this thread too. I'll be there late June as well. I'll be setup to troll, but I'll also be jigging with the kids. I was just planning to run some stick baits along with harnesses and see what the fish like....

  3. I did three of them on different boats. It is time consuming and requires a bit of muscle power but it is not hard . What you need is a camera ,a good tape measure and a huge piece of cardboard. Before you do it make sure that it really needs doing, but once you have decided, it is a matter of removing your engine, a bunch of screws and the aluminum protective top. Then drill a 2 holes in the top and screw big open eye bolts in there. Those are the handles that you use to raise the old transom out of its housing. If it is really hard you probably forgot a bolt. Once it is out( whole or piecemeal) you lay the pieces on the cardboard and measure out the dimensions which you will need to make the new one.Usually transoms are about 1.5 inches thick so you need to glue to pieces of 3/4 inch plywood together to get the right thickness. I would use Okuma marine plywood but other people use high grade fir Now you cut it out according to your measurements and glue the 2 pieces together. When it is good and dry, put it in the housing to make sure it fits. Once all is good, you have to seal the wood. I did mine with 6 layers of paint, but you can also use emulsions that you have to mix on the spot and paint on fast before it dries. Let it dry, drop it into its housing again and drill the holes where the holes in the aluminum housing are. Take it out again and paint the inside of all those holes in order to seal the wood there .Once that is dry. bolt everything back on, say a little prayer and go fishing  So what it the camera for? It's there to take pictures of the taking apart, which will help you putting it back together again.

The only downside of the "bolts" is that half the boat has to come off to get to them.... I have some time, but not alot of time unless I want to be in the garage instead of on the lake. I may do the diy but I want to explore some repair shops first. And yes, great advice on the camera !!!
  4. I did search and didn't really see anything recent, or close by. My transom "seems" ok with doing the basic diagnostics. I'm prepared to start investing some serious time and money into my new found addiction but I want to make sure I don't screw up by forgetting a main component in floating. I'm in the buffalo area and just looking for recommendations of someone who's done or knows somebody who's got a replacement done. I'm half tempted to do it myself but I'm no expert and would rather not rely on YouTube training for this one. Boats a sea nymph 195 GLS aluminum. Tia

  5. Took a rookie friend out last night. Was able to get eyes and a shot for him, but it was a miss. Awesome hunt though, had the dog hang the timber for prob 5 minutes before committing to the the field edge. Snow came in and shut us down early. I'm shooting next time...lol

  6. I agree with the above post!! No way would i put a nonmarine isolater in there just for insurance purposes. Like mentioned above, when all that amperage gets shorted, the smoke will fly and the flames will follow. Be safe, not sorry over a few$$$. Hell I bet you have more lures in the box yet that cost you more than a new Perko switch!!

Im working on the box... Lol

  7. Fish will have their revenge! I caught a bass a few years ago that I dropped onto my bare foot, and wouldn't you know one of the dorsal spines stuck straight through my toenail and broke off. In addition to the initial infection, I got to deal with the spine working its way out over the course of several months.

That story makes my toe hurt...
  8. Anybody use a decoy dog?  I am thinking this is a good dog - very smart.

I'd love to hunt with a dog ! I watch those vids in amazement. Unreal actually when u consider that if ur chair squeaks in the slightest bit the dogs are gone where these guys could prob do jumping jacks and the Yotes would keep running with the decoy dogs.
  9. I actually have an isolator from a previous life when I liked my car to shake with my stereo...don't judge.... It's a PAC-200. It's not a marine specific so will it work (secured out of weather) or do I get a marine grade ?

  10. Good info. Was thinking the same question and was prepared to buy a deep cycle/marine just cause. I think I'll do what pap recommends. One 31 starting bat.

What about for a trolling setup that's 24v ? I assume it's best to do 2 12v deep cycle and charge them with appropriate charger ? Any specific reason to pick a certain group size ?

  11. I have a Howa 1500 heavy barrel thumbhole in 22-250. It is a tack driver. Easily inside a bottle cap at 200 yds off the hood of a truck.  Don't believe I have ever heard of a problem with a Howa in general. Seem pretty rugged.  Only thing I would do over is get a lighter version like you are looking at. Mine is no fun to lug around and extremely difficult to shoot off hand!!

Nothing bad to say. Solid round, good manufacturer. Not sure on the trigger, but if you not picky I'll bet she will pile fur for you. Me personally i can't go back to a bolt after running a semi... Follow ups are needed and it's nice to stay on the gun and pull. That one time u regret taking the bolt is enough for me !
  12. Jr put a round into a yote in the backyard this am and it screamed like crazy as it ran off. Sounded like the coyote distress call on the fox pro at full blast for like 30 seconds.
Tons of blood but tough tracking in red brush. Followed the track for a while but had to go to work. Other boy is going to try to find it after he gets out of school.

Screams are usually a good thing. I'm sure you will find em. Good luck !!
