Got out solo from 3-6 tonight public launch at Sandy. I'm always reminded how awesome lake O can be and how much respect I need to pay her.. A mile from the launch I was only in 40 foot of water and the waves started turning white on top. The boat was bouncing all around and I was crawling north but I was determined to get to 100 feet. After forever I somehow got there. I only saw one other boat much further out. Only spoons today, I dropped a copper straight back and two dipsys on both sides. On about my third pass in rough water, my dipsy with the watermelon striker went off.. Somehow I managed to keep the fish out of the other lines.. I scrambled to get the net..waves were so big I almost fell... got the net stuck and quickly dropped to the floor, finally got it unhooked with my left hand and kept pressure on the fish with my right.. I really should have lost him since I must have bruised his face from stabbing at him three or four tries with the net.. When it was over the whole boat was a mess but I managed a selfie with this 9 lb steeley.. Lol that's my game face. Guess that made me 1 for 1 this afternoon with two nice fillets brining for the smoker. For record I marked many fish this afternoon from 100 to 150 and spotted a bunch of bait balls in the 130ft range. Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Probably a dozen boats out of Sandy already when I met my buddy at 6 am. Noticed right away waves were larger than I expected...The guy in this picture I know was a little sceptical about how our vessel would handle in the rollers. We made it to 100ft and set up 1 copper, and two dipsies . First fish came off bottom in 120ft on copper rig w blue and silver spoon.. Fish came off before we saw him though... Lip dragging we continued on. Ten minutes later, 120 ft depth, this 12 lb king took a watermelon stinger spoon about 75 feet down on our dipsy. Awesome high fives as we got this one in the boat! Well you asked for it so here goes... I Built this boat in 2014. Took six months to complete and launch. Studied wooden boat magazine and you tube for a while and decided to try it for myself. Dimensions:14' 1/2 ft length, 6 foot beam. Five ribbings for skeleton frame constructed of oak. Chines and gunwales of maple. Transom of oak. Plywood from Lowe's 3/8". Covered in six ounces of fibreglass wet thoroughly with epoxy resin. All joints are screwed and glued w epoxy and stainless fasteners. Wood, fasteners, epoxy resin,and cloth all totalled around $800. The greater expenses really became the trailer and new Merc 9.9 which totalled another $3300. Still having launched this boat nearly a hundred voyages, the experiences and time have been completely worthwhile.
