  1. For Kings in the great lakes, a good quality hook is a must. But, I also agree with above. Loosen you drags a little more after the hit for this time of year. The fish have hard jaws but once the hook is in loosen the drag. You are much better fighting a fish for 15 minutes more and have it in the cooler than a quicker fight and nothing to show for it because it got away at the boat.

  2. I hope all had a good time at the event. When the final list is published I am sure some one will post it. My famile had a great time. I brought my 11 year old nephew this year. He caught his first salmon which was a twenty pounder. I just returned home and he is already planing to go back if I will take him. We all know the answer to that one. What a great time to have a young first timer and to see the excitement in his face and actions.

Thank you Werner and his wife Tony for putting on a great event.

Already looking forward to next year.

  3. My riggers are 20-30 back and 70-90 feet down, the dipsey is set to like 3 to get it out and away from the boat and back 100 or more

    reillym,

Shorten you rigger leads to 15 to 25 feet. Your dipsy on a three setting out 100 feet is only getting down 20 feet if it is mono and about 30 feet if it is on wire. Chang that to a 1 1/2 setting and send it out atleast 200 feet. If you are using wire that will get you down about 70 feet, mono will be a little less. My wire rig runs a little better than a 3 to 1 ratio.

I am in the Fair Haven Challenge this weekend. Are you going to be fishing this weekend?

  4. is that 2.4 speed at the ball/lure or your GPS (speed over ground)?

If at the ball I would slow down just a touch. If that is GPS then I would speed up to about 2.7.

I have found most of the times due to currents that a 2.7 GPS speed the lure is going about 2.0 to 2.2.

Every boat fishes a little different but that seams to be my sweet spot. How deep are your lures at? What port are you fishing out of ? You are going to need to give us a little more information to help you out.

  5. I did as Ray stated. Ran them in my cannons for three years before I saved enough for the holders. You will want to lessen the drags as you stated, eventhough I only did the rubber band thing once. I prefured to just let them creap out 20 feet or so and every half hour bring them back to the original possition.

  6. O.K. guys. The Little Salmon River Challenge is over; it is time to start thinking about the Fair Haven Challenge. The Challenge this year is August, 25th. The fishing is shaping up and so are the prizes. We have a special raffle this year for one of two Navonics charts along with the regular raffle table. There is also a prize for the last place team to weigh in fish. So if you only catch one fish, please come to the weigh in. It is a great time to talk about the day, tell a few stories, have something to eat, and maybe go home with a little something extra.

I will post a list of raffle sponsors the end of this week or the beginning of next.

Looking forward to seeing you all.
