Hello Bill,

Earlier this year you had a post concerning the Cannon power cables, stating that cannon was going to replace the cables. I believe you gave a gentlemans name and number to call for these cables. If you still have the information, I am in need of it now. I just went to pull the riggers off the boat for the winter and see the cables are all cracked up. I did a quick search but came up with nothing. Maybe on GLA? or I just need to change my search a little. May try again this weekend to find the information.

Is the alumiprep ok on painted surfaces? I tried the sno-bol and it did not work. Maybe it is just stubern. I will try it again this weekend. It did take off the surface grime but did not touch the stain.

yes, just like the photo. Rigger weight in the clip. 8 to 10 twists. no problems with 6 to 30 pound test.

OK, I have tried simple green, all house hold cleaners and a pressure washer to no avail. I own a 19 smokercraft ultima. The boat has a brownish stain from fishing some lakes at home. Does anyone know of a good cleaner for alum. boats that will take this stain off of the hull and make the boat look clean again.

i have a small boat as well. My usual spread has flasher flys on my dipsys and a mix on my riggers. I have four riggers and run two dipsys. I will run some slide divers up high later on in the year for up to fout divers out. If you are tangling your dipsys I would change to two (one each side), and stack your riger rods.

On your second statement. If you are only catching smaller fish, I have found that the bigger fish are usualy deeper. How far back are you setting your dipsys? I am usualy out anywere from 250 to 325' out using wire. This puts my set up down about 80 to 108' down. If you are using mono dipsys I do not think you are able to get that deep without excesive amout of line out and then would not be able to trip them.

I am running the presure rated on the tire. I have decided to go with the same tire and cary more of the load in the truck. These existing tires do not show much ware, other than the flat from winter storage. they have been great tires and have lasted a long time, maybe more than I thought. The trailer is a 2002.

It is time to order some new tires for my boat trailer. I was in fear that I might be overloading my current tires when I load up for the great Lake for my two trips per year. I loaded up the boat today and was able to weigh it at a local scrap metal scale. Current set up with all gear and fuel weighs 3724 lbs. The trailer has two tires, size ST205/75R14. They have a rating of 1760 lbs. So as I feared, I am overloaded. These existing tires have lasted for six years. They are Goodyear Marathon radials. Does anyone know enought about tires to help me select a new tire to change to that would not require me to change rims or anything else.

I am currently searching the net but have not come up with the answers I am looking for. My search continues.

Mark,

Besides running higher in the water column as stated above, try your darke lures. Blaks with silver or white backe are good in the morning befor the sun comes up. Without the light you need to add some good contrast to the lures and be above the fish so they can look up to see them.

I used an old adjustable pole for the swimming pool vaccum (sp) and skimmer. I believe the smaller one extends to about 10 feet and is for about $12.

I was there on the eleventh. Picked up a flasher I liked. I was mostly there for some archury stuff to replace what was stolen last hunting season. I did ok in that department.

a couple of photos from the weekend.

Thursday - Dad and I arrived to the hotel in Youngstown about noon. Unloaded and set up the room. Out on the lake at about 2:00pm. Started out in about 200 feet of water just to the east of the red can. We did not wait long for the first rod to fire. Wire diver out 150' with a blue dolphin flasher and a green and gold flie. Next rod to go was the 300' wire with a green flasher and flie. Our top lure was the Miami dolphin. Travelled in and out from 150 to 250 feet of water. Managed 5 for 7 for the night.

Friday/Morning - Started out in the same area as the night before. Same program as the night before but with a few more loses. Managed 7 for 11.

Friday/afternoon - Again same place,same program, same results. Went 7 for 9 with things picking up the darker it got.

Saturday- we awoke to some east winds that messed up our program. Joined today with Adam (Deversion),searched for the morning. Managed 1 for 2 in the morning and 1 for 1 in the afternoon.

Sunday morning was just about the same as Saturday. Went 1 for 1.

Sunday night was looking glime till about 7:00 pm. At this time the screen began to light up with bait and fish. Went 3 for 3 in the next hour, ending with a nice king.

Biggest king for the week was 20 pounds and we also managed several 18 pounders. Overall a great trip. Maybe not as many fish as in past years but I realy needed the time away.

Funny you should say this. I experianced the same thing with mine this past weekend (Saturday morning) at the bar. It only did it four times and then I disconnected the plug in the back. The plug connection was a little green so I plugged and unplugged it a few times and then tried again. Had no issues for the two days after.

I use the 13 pound torpedoes from A-TOM-MIC and love them.

It is believed by many that the hum from all cables ( dipsy or downrigger) can attract fish durring the right conditions. The dipsy also has the added turbilance from itself as it digs for deeper water. If the hum is attracting fish on any given day, both downriggers and dipsys will be producing. If they are being attracted by the tubullance of the dipsy than that presentation will be producing better.

Yes that is were I bought mine. I had contacted Cannon and they told me that I was out of luck as far as them taking care of me. That was before the surge of complaints which led to a phone call from Billy V. (sponcered by Cannon) to a Cannon rep. Now they say if you send them in they will take care of them.

A standard spread would have the center riggers deeper than the side riggers. But when fishing is tough I have had them the opposite. With the five foot boom you should be fine. I am in a 19' Smokercraft with an eight foot beam as well. Sounds like the same set up an have had no problems.
