  1. At the Oak I liked the 4c's marina. They have their own launch, gas, little cottages to rent, and are only a few hundred yards to the lake.

For the Bar I usually stay at Youngstown motel. Nice clean rooms and there is a picnic table out side were I bring my own grill and feed my family.

Good luck, great ports, and greater fishing.

If you prefer to fish that 60 to 65 foot depth, the Oak (point breeze) has a great summer fishery out at the 500 to 600 foot depth. The prefered temp is higher out there and that depth is not really that far out depending on your rig.

I would add a flasher/flie set up mixed in your rigger set up to draw the fish in. Like said above though, if you are in closer to shore you might need to drop deeper to get to the prefered water temp for the kings. That is a great summer port. I hope to get back there someday. Also for info particular to that port you should see the fishing reports on their site www.attheoak.com

Good luck, I hope you have a great trip next year.

  3. They must have moved things around quite a bit. When I was there all the big lake tackle was in two isles. Downriggers, flashers, and lures. But not much selection. I was there in July for my annual trip to Point Sebago. I have been camping there for our family vacation for the last 14 years.

  4. I have had the spinning blank problem on a couple of other brand rods. What I did to solve this is to push the reel seat down as far as I could. Applied gorila glue to the blank. Let the seat return to its original possition and spun it a dozen times or so oround the blank to work the glue in. Added a reel and set the alignment to the guids. Let sit for a day and they have not moved sence. That was three years ago.

    Good luck

  5. Captspike,

You did well. I was there back in July and did not see to much stuff for the big lake. Yes there was some tackle like the SD's but not as good as you discribe. Looks like I may need to stop by again next time trough.

  6. I am in need for a zipper for my boat top. I only need one side of the zipper for my repair so I would like to order the same zipper that I already have. Does any one have an on line source for zippers?

    Thanks all for the help.

  7. Do you have a rough idea about the time you may have one in Sodus. I am already planing my trips for next year. May to the bar, July for Little Salmon River Challenge, and August for the Fair Haven Challenge. Are you thinking later in the year or earlier?

    Thank you.

PS. I had a great time as well. We did not do as well as last year, but did manage 25th place for my one king.

  8. Taken from the At The Oak site:

Mup Rig...It's simple and sometimes deadly. On one or two deep rigs, usually just the bottom rigger. Use this set-up...thread a black Add-a-line release on to your mono which comes off your fishing rod before you tie on your swiveled spoon. Then hook up and position your target spoon 10' to 12' back behind the ball. Then lower the ball just below the surface of the water keeping the Add-a-line release device in your left hand with the mono sliding thru it. Stop the ball when it is 5' below the Add-a-line. Snap on your 6' leader (a swiveled larger attractor spoon) and jerk the leader to lock it into place. Then lower to desired depth (46° for kings). The current hot set-up, now and last season, is a lazer ladder backed Mini Streak target spoon trailing a Pirate 55 lazer spook just above and ahead of it. This set-up is wide open for spoon experimation, as long as the trailing target spoon is ALWAYS below, 5' or 6' behind and smaller....Photos (courtesy Tim Bromund)

  9. My preferance would be the blue dolphind set up in lew of the bloddy death with the chartruse (sp) dipsy. I am sure others would disagree. I would think with the temps lately the fish would be a little deaper than what you have your wires set at. I would start with my wires set at 250' and 225' unless you are marking fish at a depth less that 70 feet. 250' at a 2.5 setting should be around 82' down and the 225' should be about 75' down. Two weeks ago our fish were down 100 to 110' down. I would let more wire out every half hour if not getting hit, in 25 foot increments. Our fish and bait came over 90 to 110 feet of water.

    Good luck and tight lines.
