  1. Dan, I run the board approx. 50-60' from each side of the boat, depending on traffic, I will run longer.

The idea of the mast is to keep the planer line up high out of the water so you can attach your fishing line to it and it will slide down the planer line to whatever distance from the board you want it.

The planer line MUST be kept out of the water so the boards run to the sides instead of in back of the boat.

Try to keep the mast or whatever as far to the front of the boat as possible.

I let out my fishing line anywhere from 40-120' back, then I use shower hooks and rubber bands to attach my fishing line to the planer line. The shower hooks will then slide down the planer line.

When the fish hits, the rubber band will break and it's FISH ON (hopefully)

    Hope this helps.

PS: If you don't want to fart around with this, you can always use inline boards. :)

  2. Just do what I do. Tell the guys that normally fish with you that if they want to fish, come and help. I give them a trip were they do not have to pitch in for gas and I also buy them lunch the day of the work. This year I had too many guys helping. I did not do any waxing. I just painted the bottom while they waxed. It was great.

    Gee, I wish I had known. :D

  3. Great pics Ray. Nice catch to start the season off. How bout a recipe or two in the recipe section to let us know how you cook 'em up? I was gonna wish you good luck on the water this year but it doesn't look like you need the luck, you got the skill. ;)

  4. Hi Guys,

Would like to give the salmon a try. I would be coming down from watertown way. Just so I don't drag a boat around aimlessly, could you give me directions to a good launch for a 21 foot boat? Thanks.

Wright's Landing in Oswego is excellent. If you're coming into Oswego on Rt 104 when you get in Oswego and cross the bridge, take a right at the first light, go to the end of the street, take a left, and the launch is 2 blocks on the right. Nice big parking lot & great launch.

  5. Actually, my first hit of the day was when I was going to my first spot. I had just rounded the breakwall and set up, & got antsy and wanted to get closer to shore so I upped the speed to 4.6 on the gps when I got the hit. I had 140' of line out and got him right next to the boat when it rolled and spit the hook. We saw it and it was bigger than the one I'm holding in the pic. We couldn't believe it hit going that fast. It was a fluke & we spent the whole day going 2.7 to 3.2 in different spots. I'm glad I had Mr. Heater with us after 4pm, it started getting pretty cool out there.

I didn't know that was you in the Lund or I would have come over to say hi. I was on 68 and had a chance to talk to baytech05 out there. He was doing better than us at the time so I don't have any idea how he ended up. I didn't care if I got a dang thing out there. It felt so good to be out after the winter. All is well now.

Atta way to go Mick. ;)

Edit PS: The guys on the dock said they nailed them in 6-8 fow. Anybody have any idea what the wind speed was for yesterday afternoon?

  6. First trip of the season to work the bugs out of the boat and the kinks out of the bones. Dennis Smith my buddy got 3 browns and I only got 1. We ended the day 4 for 8. Trolled the shallows with stickbaits and couldn't get much to fire so we switched to spoons in 12-15 fow. Action for us was pretty slow but we spoke to guys at the dock who said they hammered them. We must have been in the wrong place at the right time to get our 4. We did have some others on, but murphy's law prevailed. All in all it was great to get out on the water. Spring has sprung.

  7. I too have a weather dependent boat. When fishing Oswego & the waves are too much for me, I stay in the harbor. There's been times when even harbor isn't fishable for me though. It's all part of the game. Catfish out of Mexico is a good place for browns too. Again, look for the colored water. The main thing is to get on the water, relax, and have fun with it no matter where you go.
