about 2-3 years ago several giant sturgeon estimated around 150-200 lbs were found dead and floating on lake Erie. It was when the bird disease (Botchalism ?) was going around. I guess biologists from the dec took a look at them and estimated they were well over 100 years old. I bet there is still some giants out in Lake O.

Watch out for lunatic boat drivers too! I was fishing there today off a point and there was another boat fishing as well. We were maybe 30 yards apart and this jerk comes full boar right between us without slowing down between us and the shore. Unbelieveable. Im about having a cow flailing my arms and waving the guy off. What a total jerk. that was it for that spot, had to move after that. I think any guy who drives a boat, should take a common sense boating course and boating courtesy 101.
Jeez...

anything running yet?

Anyone know if the docks are in at I Bay yet? Thanks BP

Qwerty, That makes sense but will those washers and screws still allow me to use a mounting plate? (going over them)
-
sorry I forgot to mention, this is an aluminum boat
-
so you are saying, dont leave the screws in the holes? just epoxy?

OK thanks for the replys but heres a install question. I currently have a Lowrance x65 speed and temp transducers. (2). OK so I get rid of the speed wheel and that leaves 2 empty holes. Id like to leave the screws in with caulk but if I do how will I make the mounting board flush with the transom? This is freeking me out about drilling more holes in the boat. I can use one of the other 2 remaining holes from the transducer for the board but looks like I will still have to drill at least 1 more if I get a mounting board that uses only uses 2 screws. ???? I cant believe these boat manufacturers dont have a mounting plate already installed on boats, so all you have to do is remove the board, mount your transducer, and put the board back. That would be too easy I guess.

Will the plastic transom plates install with 2 screws? The one pictured in Cabelas shows 4.
-
Do you remember how many screws to install the transducer? Im not crazy about drilling holes in my boat. I have 2 now. Thanks BP

Was your spoon down 80 feet? or 80 feet of water? Jeez never heard of one being caught that deep.
-
Another year has gone by since this original post. Just wondering if anybody caught one or heard of one being caught in the Rochester central Lake O. area? Seems like someone would get one by accident sometimes. BP

Wish I knew where this Pike was really caught. So far I have heard at least 5 different lakes. The Netherlands story seems believeable but now im gunshy. BP

Anybody heard of any Smelt running at the lower Niagara yet? I remember back in the early 80s, 2 or 3 dips and you were done. Youd have more Smelt than you cared to clean. Now you have to work your A-- off to get a handful. Still cool to catch though and even better to eat. Timing is everything. Thanks BP

Im thinking of getting a new combo GPS/Sonar with some gift certificates Ive been keeping. Prices are similar. Does anyone have a preference? Im leaning toward Humminbird. I heard Lowrances customer service dept is next to impossible to get through to and that the units are a little "buggy". I have a Lowrance now (sonar) and it seems ok, never had any major problems yet. Id like something thats user friendly and not have to press a million buttons to get it to do something. Any recommendations? Im looking at the Humminbird 788ci or Lowrance HDS5. Thanks BP
Any Humminbird owners out there?

I went today too and I counted about 70 eyes or so, some huge ones at the dam around 10 lbs.or more

Has anyone been out to the green can for lakers lately and how was it ?
Does anyone know for sure if they are letting the ice boom out on April 1 st ? Thanks BP
-
Has anyone been there in the last couple days? I was there about a week ago and there was only Pike in there. Should be any day now for the eyes, I would think.

Thats a ditto. Canandaigua is better for catching perch but Seneca has bigger ones. Problem is, its like looking for a needle in a haystack. Its real easy to get skunked if you don't find them.

Can this be so? If Im fishing the Niagara bar with a CNDN license and I cross the line while drifting the green bouy and I need a Passport or enhanced id to go back to the youngstown launch? This is F*&%* rediculous.
If thats the case, they can keep their license next year and Ill fish US waters only. Theres plenty of water on the US side. BP

Looks to me like its too risky not to have one. Ive always had one but now even a conservation license with the outdoor card will run 50 bucks. Do the newer GPS mapping units have the boundry line?
-
Can anyone tell me at the Niagara Bar how far west of the green buoy the Canadian line starts?
I have an older gps that has no boundry line on it and Im trying to see if you can fish the bar without a canadian license. I know the green buoy is in US waters but Im wondering how far from it you can go to still be in US waters. Thanks

Thanks Gonefishin for the info. I got all my Vanish and tossed it. I bought the 100%Berkley Flouro from 4-15 lb test. My days with Vanish are over. You are right a great company like Berkley, it is surprising they still have it for sale. I'll use the 15 lb for my harnesses. Thanks. BP

Landshark,
It broke in the harness leader. The only thing I can figure is it was vanish. I have had many problems with vanish breaking in all different pound tests. Today I replaced all my flouro leaders 4lb-15 lb with new Berkley Flourocarbon. expensive but should be well worth it. I am certainly not the first to have problems with vanish, it is well documented. I am dumb for sticking with it so long. By the way it was not quite dark when I lost that fish, maybe it caught a tooth too. Thanks BP
WOW!! Another toothy pig from Keuka!

Seriously, I doubt that came out of Kueka. More than likely it was Waneta. Can anyone recognize the backround in this photo?
