I bought one prior to last season; set up just for deer with the short rifeled barrell. It is a great gun, very fast-smooth action. I can get great groups out to around 175 yards- after I switched to a better scope. I put 100 slugs through it between sighting in 2 scopes, hunting last year, and just messing around. Never jammed, always accurate.

Cons- the deer slugger model is pretty heavy compared to the Super Balck Eagle or the rest in the same price range. My opinion- the best deer shotgun on the market.

I liked it so much, I tried to buy a used SX2 camo to use as a bird gun- but I could not get the guy down to my price range.

In all honesty, the one thing that bothers me about it is when I read about the derby's held in Canadian waters with major corporate sponsers. there was one last year that each week, the biggest fish took home a $20,000 Lund- it went for 6 weeks. It would be nice to be able to get more then just your entry fee back when you place a fish in the top 20.

Let's be honest, most of us do it for bragging rights- the money is just an added bonus. We have tossed around the idea of boat decals that could be awarded- like high school and college football players get put on their helmets for making big plays. Even some t-shirts would be great to have

noticed that in both the king and brown division, the fish that were sitting in second place Monday morning are no longer on the board and everyone moved up a slot. Did they get DSQed or just not show up at the ceremony??

Just in case anyone was curious. Water temp today was 71 degrees on the surface- everywhere. In 50 fow, temp on the bottom was 71. In 100 fow, temp on the bottom was 72. In 145 fow, temp on the bottom was 72.5. With 165 feet of cable out, I think the probe was there.

Screen was blank from top to bottom everywhere. Waves were a fishable 3-5, but the wind made holding a line impossible for us; actually pointless considering the water temp.

Decided to give it a try this morning. Left the dock headed west into the nice open 4 foot rollers. Set up just west of Devils Nose in about 60 fow trolling east- with the waves. Water temp was 73 on top and 72 on the bottom. Pointed the boat north east, hit 120 and the screen lit up. Fish and bait stacked on the bottom. About that same time, the wind really started to pick up from the south west. Managed to get 4 rods into the water, probe read 51 degrees on the bottom.

5 minutes of trolling, deep rigger fires- size 4 silver/crome bullet; king in the low 20s. I had 130 foot of cable out over 120 fow. Set back up, 100 rigger fires. Mag size silver streak- green/glow. Turns out to be a king in the mid 20s. Set back up again, tried to hold an east troll but impossible with the wind.

By that time, the rollers were solid 6 footers from the west with 2-4 foot chop in between from the south- like a huge washing machine. Could not hold any sort of line to keep the rods tracking, back at the dock by 8 AM.

That is funny Brian- next time I see thost two guys trying to impress their girlfriends- I will be sure to ask them. can you imagine what it must have been like when they grilled that thing the next day. i want to throw up just thinking about it

went out for a quick trip after work- set up at 5 pm, set up with the usual fall king spread. First- took a king on a green glow spin dr, Atomik fly- on the dipsey 400 out on 2.5 setting. Then a steelie down 90, on a mag spoon- gator. Changed colors up and made a turn to go back through the same water. Took the laker down 125 on a mag spoon- at 2.6 mph- on the probe. Set back up, one more rip on the dipsey- but no one home. Back at the weigh station at 7 pm.

As you may be able to tell, the lake was dead calm and it was Africa hot. cold water was moving in quickly near the bottom, had around 46 degrees on the probe the entire trip. When we quit- fish and bait everywhere from 40-100 down. If the weather holds off, it is going to be one hell of a weekend!

Decided to make a quick trip this AM to celebrate my dad's 69th birthday. Hit the water at 6:15- decided to stay shallow for browns. Started hitting fish before set up was complete. We took 1 king, 2 browns, 2 steelies and a laker all before 8:00 AM. Dropped 3 more- no idea what they were. Had a brown to weigh in and a steelie that we tried to release a few times before heading to the dock

Waited until 9:35 for East Fork to open, finally decided to drive to the oak to weigh them in. When it was caught a 6:30, the brown weighed 12.13; 3 hours with no ice- 12.4 was the final. Bow was 13.4.

Every hit this morning was 55-80 down on Silver Streak spoons.

with the scale on the boat reading between 19.5 and 23 due to the chop- we decided to weigh it in and put it on the grill

Hit the water at 4pm. Marks in 80 fow but the south wind had the temp all messed up. 65 on top, 61 on the bottom. Bad south/west chop so we headed north.

180 FOW was the best for us. went 3 for 4 in 2 hours, 1 king, 3 bows- one of them was a beautiful domestic- about 8 lbs.

King came on a purple spin dr with a purple fly- 87 down, bows all came on dreamweaver SS- get-r-done down 77.

bought a house with a pond filled with these. Anyone know what they are?

brand new- still in box fish hawk tri-ducer. firs both the 840 and the new x4. Bought for over $200 last year. Will sell for $135 or BO.

The problem is that you can register for the derby until 7 AM and fish that day. The rule is in place to prevent someone who is not in the derby catching the fish at 8:30 PM, going home, registering for the derby, then taking it to weigh in.

I too have been fishing the derby since the ESLO days and would love to see that rule changed. When you buy the "season pass" you should be able to weigh in the following day; as long as your witness is with you.

Becuase of this rule, we never fish after 7:30 PM becuase I would go CRAZY catching a derby fish and not being able to weigh it in. As a result, we miss some of the best fishing of the year.

I did mine over the past 4 years in bits and peices. Started off with lifetime fishing, then added sportsman, then added archery.

When you do it a little at a time, the amount you have already paid is deducted from the total price- so it does not actually cost anymore $$, and it is easier to spend a hundred here and there- compared to $800 in one shot.

Did all of it at Walmart- now everything comes in the mail in August but the DMP's. It is great and I recomend it for everyone- never have to worry about it again

We had 46 degree water- 80 down over 92 FOW tonight. Went 8 for 11, largest king was 24 lbs, largest laker was 14 and change

TRIP OVERVIEW fished Friday night and Saturday AM

Went out for a quick trip friday night. Decided to fish lakers for a few hours. Ended up something like 11 for 13- largest weighing in at 15.02- currently 4th in the Orleans.

Hit the water early Saturday AM. Took one king 24.5 lbs on Spin Dr dipsey. Had two more misses as well. Three steelies- largest was 9 lbs on the riggers- moonshine glow purple. One 8 lb Coho one the deep rigger. About 10 AM switched over to lakers. Hit another 8 fish in a bout an hour. Largest was 12 lbs.

The fishing was so good, I decided to take my 7 year old son out for an hour or so in the afternoon. Fished for about 15 minutes and hit this 10 lb laker.

Does anyone have access to the Orleans Leaderboard that can be posted on a regular basis???
