  2. Very nice deer. Congrats.
  3. Back in the early morning on October 20th this guys neck had a target on it. My buddy at the other end of the field took a poke at this guy and it walked away from him jumped through a hedge and walke all the way over to my stand. He walked up about 40 yards away and it was quite windy day but I was feeling good and confident with my Bear epix extreme bow so I gave a little Nayh and he stopped for a second , then started again. another Nayh and he stopped and really look around and whamo I let fly. I really though I missed as I watched him walk away in a different direction than he was going. I got down and checked the area and found a nice drop of bright red but thick blood so I let it have some more time. About 150 yards later, all in a straight line I found this guy while on my hands and knees because he ran out of blood. Ended up that we had both hit im in the neck. his shot was more of a graze and then mine went right through both main veins in the neck. After 3 years of getting skunked without even a shot, 'if its brown its down' was all I had in mind. After the kill I keep reminding myself, you cant eat the antlers. I am pretty sure this deer was older because he didnt have any teeth left except for the fronts (either that or he was sick some how and I am going to die). Either way, the steaks are very tasty! heres another shot of my friend taking a nap in the truck. http://fin.tzo.com/~xingtau/general/deer1.jpg -Ron-
  4. If you go south at Sandy, the waves wouldn't matter. Make sure you bring your spinning rod and some crabs or some kind of weedless bass lure. I think someone was pulling your leg. Fishinman was more correct when he said it didnt really matter. At this point theres been a lot of good fishing right across the mouth and on either side. basically pick east or west and go with it. If its night time go out to about 80fow and work your way back in toward shore. You will find the fish somewhere along the way most likely. Ron
  5. Yeah I landed my first king while alone on the boat and then when I got cleaned up I did a laker. I was very excited and did a little dance. The fact that I got to do it with another boat watching was a bit of a charge too. Thanks Ron
  6. Took a day off. Got a really nice one today. Took a friends son out today. fished 6a to 2p. it was his first time big fish fishing. Went 6 for 7. Slow pick for being stubborn. The browns were in shallow (40' fow) 30-37 down but after hitting one when getting set up we moved out to get him some big fish. There were others railing the browns and lakers today. Kid picked it up quick and turned out to be a great fishing partner. Tried to get a big fat king and some steelies because they are fun to catch to get him excited about this fishing. Most travel was north and southish between pump and nose. Water was super flat! fish #1, 70 fow #0 dipsy unknown distance back. ~30 down. double orange crush fish #2 170 fow #1 dipsy superbraid 2.5 140'out mt dew double crush glow spindoctor mirage/blue fly fish #3 ~225 fow ~30 down forget what spoon this was on but on a spoon fish #4 ~250 fow 140 back on dipsy/spinny listed above fish #5 ~270 #0 dipsy ~ 30down. double orange crush. this was a supprise. These are quite busy ~100fow now fish #6 ~220 fow 35 down stinger yellow killer last fish never made it to the boat. Huge rainbow made a beautiful show for us with several nice leaps out of the water. Ran hard at the boat and spit it. Thats fishing... fleas were average on dipsy lines. freshly spooled flea flicker kept my riggers in the water longer. Was a great day! Too bad I have to go back to work tomorrow. Xingtau
  7. I would like to say thanks to you Pat for the info and letting us follow you around. I am Ron in the boat I now call Aoxomoxoa. Since we saw you going out and heard part of your conversation with School Master I made the westward turn along with you at around 130' after making a loop to put some distance between us. It took a little while but after you basically pointed the fish out to us and just before we went in we finally hooked into what turned out to be a 15 pounder. It was an ice breaker for my boat being the first King I have actually gotten in the boat. My neighbor was on the rod and it was his first king ever. It was great feeling. I don't care who reels it in anyways, I actualy like it more when my passenger gets to catch them. I think we lost/missed 2 other hits but it didnt matter. Browns are awesome and after a day of nothing a laker is still a fish caught but the first King in my own boat is totally the best! Thanks again, You and everyone on Sandy are a credit to fishing with all the help and info you share. Ron
  8. Still pretty new to the whole lake fishing scene. Got to the boat at about 5:30. My neighbor was out with me finally and was eager to get him to catch a fish from my boat. I like seeing others catch fish when I take them out. Took a quick buzz over to the light house because it was so smooth. Over about 74 fow, 55 down first strike came on a purple/silver/blue RR. Had what looked like a nice steelie near the back of the boat when he returned my lure to me and departed. I always seem to have trouble landing these. Worked in and out marking a lot of bait and fish between 70 and 90. Next fish came on the other side on a stinger 60 down off the rigger. My buddy grabbed that one, set the hook and we landed a 6lb brown. Had a knock off to keep up the excitement. Was getting ready to call it a night just before 8:30 and a fatty brown latched on to the same stinger. I had my friend pull in the dipsies and raise the other rigger while I taught the fish to swim. This fish didnt want to give up though and fought nicely, digging for the bottom constantly. I gotta get a new scale because my walmart special said 13+ and when I brought him in he was only 11lbs 6oz but no matter because I need filet practice too. The ride home was smooth as silk as the lake was like glass. Great evening out all around! Ron
  9. Ok lets try this again since my first novel got zapped. Name: Ron Handle: Xingtau (I tried Lonely fisherman but gonna stick with my long time alias) Boat: 19.5' SeaNymph GLS; Common launch: Sandy Creek, Hamlin I grew up fishing the costal waters around Boston for blues, stripers, cod and flounder with my dad. Did some bass fishing on my own. Move up to Rochester 14 yrs ago now and picked up stream fishing for trout, then discovered Sandy for bass pike panfish and the occasional sheepshead. Finally got this GLS and I rediscovered my love for the open water. The lake is just like the ocean without the smell. This is my first season on the lake. Been working with dipsys to get started. Finally landed my first two trout the June 10th, evening and 11th AM. no idea what to do with it once I cauht it. My first fish. didnt weigh or measure it but the tackle box is 20" long. My first brown. 23". Very tasty! Yeah yeah I had already started gutting it before I got someone to help me with a picture. lost a nice rainbow right at the boat while reaching for the net. ALL caught 70fow, 40' down on mono/dipsys with a black and purple spoon with a red bead for an eye. The blue box in the picture was a gift from my neighbor. it was full of spoons to get me started! He also donated two boat rods and reels to the cause! No salmon for me yet but I just finished bolting on my first of 2 downriggers so I am ready for what sounds like its gonna be a sweet 4th of july weekend and lead in. The Sandy creek crew has been very helpful. Bogey and the other guys out of East Fork and along the creek are great. Everyones friendly as I pass by and generous with info. Few weeks ago, in a 2' or so chop saw a guy buzzing around come to an abrupt stop and sit dead in the water after breaking his throttle cable. I went over to him and ended up towing him in. He turned me on to this community. If you read this bud, drop me a PM so we can talk about that beer ya offered! heh. The community and information here are worth more than anything though! If anyone wants to fish with me some morning, send me a PM and we will talk about it. Giving a friend your old boat is the fastest way to loose a fishing partner. He doesnt do early morning and doesn't like to troll either (maybe because I suck at it) so he stays in the creek and near the shore. Now that I have downriggers I should get on some more fish. Turned into another book. Sorry for being so longwinded. Ron
