  1. Mike, first make sure the canvas is good and dry, then brush of any dirt , then the best way is to take the time to take the canvas off the shanty and fold it up and store inside a plastic container and you will have no problems with mice or bug's :bug: just make sure that when you fold it up that none of the widows are folded so they don't get a crease in them and crack when you open it back up and they will last the life of the canvas . I bought mine back in 91 and used it 4-5 days a week and next year i will need to replace the canvas just because it is so old and sun faded, wind wiped and starting to rip but it has lasted me this long so i can't complain .

If you don't want to take the canvas off then just make sure that you close it up with a bunch of dryer sheets in it to keep the mice out and warp up in a tarp to keep the dust and stuff off it and protect the canvas from getting torn if something fall on it .

    Hope this helps you .

  2. Great job Brian,:beer: that is a very tough tourney to fish without an ATV to cover a lot of ice fast in 6 a hour time limit . My nephew and a buddy fished it a few years back on loon lake or silver lake can't remember for sure i do believe it was loon lake and placed 4th and they feel they could have done better if they had an ATV because the that the one foot of snow and slush on the bottom make it tough to drag around by hand, and i'm sure you know what that is like, Heck Dave genz himself even had a hard time on his ATV, he got it stuck and tipped it over right in front of them and they helped him get it out and after he said thanks and chatted for a while he drove away and them my nephew asked my buddy who the heck is Dave genz, so my buddy said just look at the side of your fish trap and that should tell you who he is . I L.M.A.O when i heard that, my nephew doesn't ice fish very much and had used my fish trap for the tourney that day.

Once again Brian great job

  4. Nice pic's mike and good job

those fish are also called Bowfin and dogfish, I caught one in port bay and one in sodus bay and if you have ever fished Black lake then you already know that it's full of them

  5. Tom, you will probably find out that it was because they were all large mouth bass, and that is why 99% of the people i know don't like to eat large mouth, where some like to live in the heaviest weeds they can find and some like to live in areas with structure like fallen trees and docks with no weeds at all witch i would have to believe would change the way they taste and your friends were probably use to eating small mouth bass witch taste much different and don't have that strong fishy taste and they have a much different living habitat where they like sandy and rocky bottoms with no weeds or very few at all .

Ask your friends if they know what kind of bass they like to eat and you will probably find out that they thought all bass taste the same and once again there is a big difference in the taste of small & large mouth bass

Hope this helps you find out what your looking for

  6. Fished just north of the newport blow boat club and did not find any fish till i hit the 45 foot range and them the bottom 10 feet had active fish but you really had to tease them to get any to bite, caught a bunch of dinks and 9 nice keepers all 11 inchers

  7. Got a late start do to some running around in the morning and got on the ice at 11:00 and fished till 5:00

Not much to report it was a slow pick for catching any good one's, Only caught 3 keepers and a hole lot of dinks and today they seemed to want mousies more than anything best depth was 22 feet
