With 30lb braid i have 700’ on a 7color. That is using the linecounter. My guess is my 5 color is close to 800-850’ of 30lb. You will love the speed on the retrieve and the smoothest drags on the market!!!

This is good info, Thank you for sharing. How about for a 10 color on a 40 for backing? or is a size 50 a better option?

That smaller sized logperch is great but they don’t make it anymore. The larger size version doesn’t work nearly as well for some reason. Nice Atlantic with cool coloration.

On the east end the larger size works better for me for some reason. It is always in the spring rotation.

Oddly enough that lure has also caught a couple seagulls, its just must look that good. 5 trips so far this spring it has taken multiple fish on 4 of those days.

I noticed Raymarine does not work well below 2.5 mph. Calibrate it and see how it works when cruising. The wheel falling of is not an issue with the autopilot.

This may be AP model/boat specific. My Raymarine Evolution systems runs great at low speeds, no problem trolling for lakers at 1.5-1.8.

Obviously at slow speeds wind/wave push can come into play.

I also have that pilot and it works well, but there's a procedure to run when it's 1st installed, and it won't run right if it didn't run all the way thru. I forget what it's called but I do remember having a tech from Raymarine on the phone while I was running it thru. Don't be afraid to call and ask the techs' there to help you, they are really good and helpful.

Yup it needs to be calibrated.

Ray's tech support is really good. They also have a forum on their website that is very helpful and the tech support staff usually answers questions within 24 hrs.

You very well may be able to find the calibration instructions on their website forum.

  4. The Saltists are great out of the box, super smooth. I have a few on the boat  The High speed Coldwaters are also nice and can be bought for under $100 if you look around. I bought a bunch of them on Black Friday for $87ea. Sent to Tuna Toms for drag upgrades so for just a little over $100 you have a great, smooth high speed reel.

  5. Got off to a slow start Saturday. Once I got on the water I had to re-calibrate the AP as I had updated the software on my displays.

Ran the boat on the hoses earlier in the week with full systems check & service, no issues all good. Get on the water went through all the systems and I discover I have no throttle control on the kicker for the troll control unit. Back to the dock to diagnose, a set screw on the linkage had fallen out. Quick fix with a "zip tie" and I was back out on the water.

Saturday. Headed straight out and set up in deeper water so I could troll back in already set up. Thought it would be easier since I was solo and the fog was thick early.

Started on an east troll 10-12' of water was best although got a few little deeper. Trolled all the way to the buoys at the plant and circled back to one spot that was real productive.

Smithwick Log Perch was best and Tennessee Bleeding shad second. All Browns, 8lbs or so the biggest. Fished about 6 hours for 15 fish boated.

Sunday. Fishing solo again I headed west as there was nice colored water all along the shoreline. Started the morning with a quick 0-3 then a nice "Salmon Surprise"

Fished 8 hours. 8-12' of water was best for me. 2.4 SOG (didn't have the probe in) 43° pockets of water held the most fish. Again Log perch was getting bit also black & silver Rapala.

Steady pick of mostly smaller fish all morning. Bite died for a bit so I started rotating through baits and the brighter colors started firing for while.

Had two solo doubles. First time 1 for 2... second time got them both! On the troll back to the harbor I lost a good one right in front of Rudy's, certainly a double digit fish.

Shortly after that picked up a bow/steelhead then called it a day. Great day of fishing and weather!

I thought the same thing! Especially on a boat with no sidewall height. Water looks calm but accidents happen.

Also as you said you guys were out there all by yourself. One slip and your in a life threatening situation with the water temps this time if the year.

Job well done with the lakers!

I have a lowrance elite 9 ti that is nmea 2000 compatible.  I'm going to call and make sure myself. What does the screen they offer for an extra $300 do that the remote doesnt besides tell you what degree you're running at (270, 180, 280, 300, etc).  I couldn't care less about that. I would like it to communicate with my lowrance so I can tell it to follow different tracks or head toward different waypoints.

Not sure on the Garmin unit but on my Raymarine the dedicated AP screen gives me input options that I can't get from the MFD screen. Such as 180° turn over a specified distance......¼ mile, ½ mile etc etc. I can program for automatic S turns, zig zags, figure 8's and a bunch of other patterns all over  various distances that are chosen.

We us the S turns and U turns almost every time out. The AP does it better than I can steer it. We still use the AP on one of the MFD screens for minor inputs such as slights turns  1° to 30° at a time.

  8. Another option if you want a little more pull without the extra keel is to move the back of the keel in a ½" puts a little more angle  & resistance on it.

Ran it that way for a few years before adding the extra keel.

Legacy is correct about the double keel being a bit better in rough water.

  9. If not running copper go with the Otter boats. Can always add an extra keel to the Otters if you want more pull.

I run Otters for Flatlining and short cores. Once we switch over to fishing Kings deeper I go to the boards.

  10. Put as big of a backer plate as you can fit under the gunwale (length & width) as you can to distribute the flex from the downrigger.

We pulled the cleat so the backer plate took up the whole section from the transom to just before the rod locker. Re-installed cleat of course with longer stainless hardware. We used ¾" Marine ply. Choice of material is up to you but just make sure its strong.

If you plan to fish heavy weights or bounce bottom at all I wouldn't do it any other way as the metal on top of that gunwale is not too thick.

As mentioned above if you raise the downrigger it will create more leverage and flex on the gunwale. We had ours raised but we also had Big Jons on that boat so the booms also helped with the flex.

Well thats good! at least they all match. I still think something is off though.

    1. No 192 Listed under Pro-Mag for that model year in Smoker Catalog

    2. Graphics/paint do not match 2010 models

    3. Windshield style is from pre-2008

Who knows could have been a limited run in 2010 or something.

Good Luck with the sale! Smoker is a good boat I have had a couple of them and never had any issues.

So this is my title from Pa Fish Commission . Here is a picture of the paper work from the dealer we used for transfer when I purchased in 2015 minus my name and address obviously. I also contacted dealer and emailed such requesting they submit to Smoker Craft for exact model so I can post from them to avoid any confusion. I do apologize for the “ Pro Ultima “ it’s a 2010 192 Pro Mag. Yes it’s a 2010 Yamaha 150 V 6 2 Stroke . I will post email response from Smoker Craft as soon as I receive such . I will also edit the post to 192 Pro Mag ASAP . Thank you for all your questions .

You have something really weird going on there!   See they did not make a "192 Pro-mag" in 2010. The Catalog shows 182 as the biggest for that year.

You should also send pictures of your boat to Smoker to see if they can identify.

Did you look at the hull tag on the boat as well?
