  5. Got out of Olcott around 4pm for an evening run. Where did the East wind and 4 footers come from? Anyway, ran North and a little West out to 24.6 line around 400' of water. Took a Steelhead in about 70' of water on a green/black glowy spoon. Several nice marks along that line. I think we would have done better if not for the slop.
  6. Fished Wilson/Olcott from 7am to 1pm. Started in 150. FOW. Picked up lines at 9am. Went deep to 380. 3 steelies after that. Green was the color of the day. Flies and spoons. Fish were around 60.
  7. I'll be launching out of Wilson Sat AM and fishing between Wilson and Olcott all morning. Boat is Sally 2.
  8. I got skunked out of Wilson sat evening. Good temp and we marked some fish. Though bait balls were up high and fish were marking down 60'.
  9. I'm thinking about buying a chunk of land in Wilson to hunt. Been doing some research, though, and the deer take up there doesn't look great. Anyone out there hunt Wilson? How is it?
  10. I run these Cabela's Innerflow Rods (see link). I'm thinking to switching to copper wire. Anyone run copper on these? The tips are stainless/titanium...should hold up? Thanks in advance. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas- ... l+Products

  12. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Sally II ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/24 afternoon Time on Water: 5pm till dark Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: NE Waves: 2' slop Surface Temp: Location: Wilson LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 1 Total Boated: 1 Species Breakdown: 24 pound king Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: 125 Lure Depth: ?? ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Headed out in the afternoon with my nephew who had never reeled anything in off the lake. Slow start from 70' and out...a few marks, but no takers. Kept changing up and threw everything I had at them. Finally at around 7:30pm, I put a black/crinkle spinny with a green fly on my dipsie and put it 300' back on #3 setting. Couple minutes later and the rod started shaking. My nephew got on it and did a great job with this fish which ran every which way, including under the boat. At the end, it tangled in my downrigger and by the time I got it on the boat, it had 1 hook in it with NO LINE ATTACHED TO IT. Just made it. All in all a great night and one that my nephew won't soon forget!
  13. I am planning to head out Saturday AM (Aug 25th). What is the best spot to hit matures this time of year? Wilson, Olcott or the Niagara Bar? Do salmon stage by (and eventually run up) the little creeks between or just the Lower Niagara?
  14. Thanks for the report. I'll be starting my 'fall' fishing in 2 weeks. How was the bite in the evening?
  15. Thanks for the tips...maybe I'll go back to stacking on my downriggers. Trying to get a couple more lines out to improve my odds. I usually only run 4 lines - one off each rigger and one off each side on a dipsy.
  16. I'm thinking about getting these kite rigs for my gunnel and running 3 sets of dipsies off each side of my boat. Anyone done something similar? Think it will work? http://www.cabelas.com/product/TACO8482-Sport-Fishing-Kite-Fishing-Rod-Cluster/737505.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Doutriggers%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts&Ntt=outriggers&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products
  17. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Sally II ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/28 Evening Time on Water: 4pm - 8pm Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: North 5mph Waves: <1 foot Surface Temp: 70 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated: 3 Species Breakdown: Steelies, Kings Hot Lure: Anything green with blue. Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: 200-300 Lure Depth: 60 feet ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Had a pretty good evening run out of Wilson. Started out in 300 FOW, trolling 100' down. Decided to move the gear up to 60' after spotting a few marks. Trolled into 200 FOW and the screen lit up. Hit two in a row on 'old school' green spinny with a blue/green crinkly fly so I switched over all 4 rods to spinnies/flies with similar colors. All total, had 5 hits, boated 3. Hits on both the downriggers and dipsies out 300 on 2.5. Nothing big, but good action!
  18. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Sally II ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/20 Time on Water: 7:30am to 1:30pm Weather/Temp: cloudy, 80's Wind Speed/Direction: 10 knots SW Waves: 1-2 Surface Temp: 75 Location: Wilson LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 2 Total Boated: 2 Species Breakdown: 1 7lb steelhead, 1 15lb king Hot Lure: Wonder Bread Spin Doctor and fly for both Trolling Speed: 2-3 Down Speed: 2-3 Boat Depth: 145, then out ot 285 Lure Depth: 1 hit down 65 in 145 FOW; other hit down 94 ft in 285 FOW ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Seemed to be good marks in the morning about 145 FOW between Wilson and Olcott...but only one hit. Got a nice 3 year old king out deeper within 10 minutes of resetting lines, then hit the same spot a couple more times and nothing... Back through 145 FOW and nothing. We didn't get skunked, but weren't exactly slaying them either.
  19. Hoping to get out this Saturday. Have seen a few postings about guys quitting the Lake for the year and fishing the river. Are there still mature Kings out in the Lake this time of year or am I better off heading to the river? Also, in the river, most guys drift fish with egg sacs and cleos, right? Dumb question - why not troll with spoons or even flies in the river?
  20. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Sally II ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/28 Time on Water: 3pm Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 2 Total Boated:1 Species Breakdown: 12 1lb King Hot Lure: Purple Atomik Fly (both times) Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Water flipped Saturday afternoon? Dropped down 50 ft in 100 FOW and temp was high sixties!!! Changed the batteries in my probe because I thought it couldn't be true...but it was. Fished deep in 250 FOW for a while...then came back to 140 FOW - down 135. Boated a pretty nice 12 lb King. At least we didn't get skunked!
  21. check to see if the dipsy is still set to 3 when you pull it in. if the screw on the bottom is loose, maybe its going back to zero. could also be the current, but that should change if you change direction.
  22. One more related question...I'm planning an evening run this weekend. Where should I start? 40, 100, deep?
