  1. I totally agree that sharp hooks are important. I have lost many fish, including straightening a hook, bite off(s), and fish just coming loose. I fixed straightening hooks by paying attention to my drag, the bite off by switching from fluoro to steel and if I am vigilant with sharpening hooks, I expect to see an improvement with losing fish there as well.

when i switched from mono to 80 lb braid i got cocky about how strong it was and cranked the drag down. That's when i found out how weak some of the hooks are that come on lures. You really have to adjust the drag to match the hooks you're using.

  2. Homemade lures- it's a whole new thrill catching on something you made in your basement!

a few years ago I tied an inline double 8 from the first buck my youngest son got. Later that year he caught his first musky on it. That was pretty cool. My other homemade baits have been busts. I keep trying,it beats watching Hallmark channel with the wife.

  3. I fished tuesday. Caught one around 36" but I only stayed out for an hour, wind was blowing 20+ out of the south and it got rough. Didnt see anyone else out

wind was tough tuesday. I saw four boats and one other yak out. Weather channel missed the wind forecast by about 20 mph. It was tough out there, had to stick tight to the causeway.

  4. Never heard of it until now. So I checked it out. Saw one video where you could see the lure coming in and a pike attacked it. So it could be useful for seeing follows maybe but you'd have to be watching the screen and not the water. Too much technology for me. I have two units on my boat and use about 5% of what they're capable of. My garmin unit has a 3d mode i have never used because i'd have to buy another card or chip or whatever they are.

  5. The bays in the north end are all mud. There is an air boat sitting in the mud in one bay. The entire steel ramp at the campground is exposed. No boats at docks, even Justin's is out. At the marina I would say you could get a 12' tin can with a tiller in. My 18' boat:no way. Npike said he got in Conesus yesterday and got a pike over 10lbs. Said docks were out and launched with waders on. Waneta was good for the Troy;is the tournament still on for November? I may have to finish this season in my yak.

  6. I called the campground yesterday and asked about launching. She was honest and said small boats maybe and I should try the marina. I called there and was told the inner launch was good and I could launch before they open, just put money in box. We got there at dawn to find an inch of water at the end of the ramp. There is a wooden extension after the concrete but half of it is destroyed. Normally i fear no boat launch but not today. I might go back later with the yak.

  7. I fished there last week in my yak so no problem for me. It is very low but there were plenty of bass and pontoons out. I saw boats come and go at the marina. One of my sons called the campground today to set up an overnight for my birthday mid October. They told him the launch was closed and docks not usable. Guess we'll try Chautauqua for that trip. A 14' foot boat should be fine and if you get wet at least it's still warm.

  8. As always, it was a good time but I still have yet to catch a fish in the tournament. I had an exciting two seconds of hope with a fish that hit my lure as soon as it hit the water. I think everyone on the south end heard my AAAAW!! when it got off. It felt and looked like a good one too.

It was a good social time at the get together after the tournament.

I like that picture of Capt. Ed with the fish. It looks like he is sprinting across the boat with it.

I feel your pain. I am up to 8 tournaments and have boated one fish that was too short to enter.
