I'm hoping to get out and try if the wind ever decides to lay down.

So I can run just two leads from the sub troll, one to the positive terminal and one to the negative? No need to run a third lead to ground?

I hooked up just the positive and negative and dropped the probe in a bucket of water just to see if I would get a reading on temp and nothing showed on the head unit. Maybe ill get a fresh battery and wait to test when I have the boat out again.

Picked up a used Moor Sub Troll and have a question about the wiring. The directions say to connect the black lead of the power cable to both the boats ground system and negative battery terminal. 

I am not sure on the ground system as I don't believe there's one on my boat. I have a 16 foot tiller with a 30 hp 4 stroke if that helps at all. Manual says the current must be returned to the water ground to complete the circuit.

16 foot tiller for me to. Just pick your days, if you got a decent drive hold out for light and variable winds. I'll be perching until thanksgiving. 

Can't comment on the finger lakes but my Rochester buddies crush them there, mostly Seneca. 

I've started running 12 lb flouro leaders and it hasn't impacted my catch rate at all and I haven't lost any sticks to violent strikes since switching.

Still early for trout, a few starting to show up.

I was always a bit skeptical. After floating bags for an hour or so on my local trib one November afternoon without a sniff I figured why not. 5 fish in six casts the last half hour of daylight was enough to convince me.

Enjoy the hobbies you already have when you have the time and help out your wife as much as you can. Best advice I can give is to enjoy as much time as you possibly can with your little one. Everyone has probably been telling you how fast it goes but until you're living it you have no idea. My son is now 17 months, and he's an absolute riot. At the same time I'll admit that I got a little teary eyed watching some videos of him on my phone from his first few weeks the other day. Life goes crazy fast!

Not in the market for a boat this size but sure seems like a hell of a deal!

I noticed the set screw, removed it with an allen wrench. It's set deep in the center of the spool where the cable would not make contact. Is there possibly something missing?

I am going to be attaching coated downrigger cable to a cannon manual downrigger. I've never done this before. How does the terminating end need to be connected on the rigger spool?

Will probably go with j plugs in closer.    Still wondering...will lakers still be set up on the bottom like they were through the summer, or is going after them with cowbells

I have just an 8 lb capacity on my clamp on riggers. Have seen some 7 lb torpedos and 8 lb herbies.

Do the herbie weights track much much than round cannon balls? I'm currently using a 6 and an 8 pound cannonball and get significant blow back especially with the 8 pound ball. Do the herbie weights make much difference? Or would torpedo still be best for minimizing blow back?

Looking for a used Moor Sub troll to get started in the speed and temp game. If anyone is planning to sell and upgrade this off season please send me a PM.

Anybody use these? How do they run?

Newbie question, when measuring leader length for flasher fly combos are you referring to length from swivel to fly head? Or swivel to hook? Just looking for some clarification.

How long of a leader from attractor to fly? Longer than a spin doctor?

I know a lot of guys run J plugs, but does anybody try or use deep diving cranks like bombers or thundersticks?
