  1. If you went on 100 different boats, there would be 100 different favorite lures to choose from. Be creative- tape the stock spoons to meet your taste- sometimes a big ol eye or a strip of glow/green is all it needs. Most of the popular spoons are discovered by accident. Also, if you know somethings works, stick with it- It'll fire again. Remember, you cannot fish the radio, just worry about yourself. Interestingly, I worked for a charter for 7 years, and none of his favorites are mine..... That being said, I think that you will find that a particular brand of spoon gives you the action you like- and stingers and savant spoons happen to work for me, as do Atomik Flies with my own special combination of beads. This may be because i tend to run a specific speed, but who knows
  2. That is certainly a good looking read on the Lowrance..... Which model is it?
  3. I NEED to get a new fish finder this year. My Lowrance(s) both lose bottom in >200 feet- granted the one is a very good unit that is >12 years old (so probably a transducer issue), the other is a cheap color version that is only a year old. From what I gather, Furuno and RayMarine put out the best units. I (my wife) would like to keep it under 1000 theoretically. Any insight here? Thanks
  4. ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/29/09 Time on Water: 5:30-9:20 Weather/Temp: Cool, calm Wind Speed/Direction: south/east Waves: 1 foot Surface Temp: Location: east of the channel- from the old lighthouse to maxwell LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 7 Total Boated: 7 Species Breakdown: 7 browns- Hot Lure: natural born killer Savant crusher Trolling Speed: 2-2.5 Boat Depth: 40-75 Lure Depth: 20-45 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== I had heard that the Salmon fishing was less than stellar out of Sodus the end of the week, so I thought Id try something different and go for browns. Set it up in 40 feet right out of the channel- the browns started biting early (first fish by 5:50) and never really stopped biting all morning. My 120 dipsey on setting 2.5 was the hot rig- took 6 of the 7 fish. Nothing special as far as size was concerned- all 4-7 lbs- But i figured that a bigun might be in there and win me some money in the derby. Used a Savant spoon for the first time ever and man was it hot. I went and bought a half dozen more.... The Browns were all beautiful- really starting to get their color. Hopefully when i go Tuesday I can report on how colored up the Salmon are!! Heres a few of them
  5. Nicely done steve- sounds like a good day. What was the current like. I heard those can spin with the right current? Hope to talk to you soon- Abe D.
  6. ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): (8/1/09) Time on Water: (6:30 AM – 11:00 AM) Temp/Weather: (Warm and Sunny) Wind Speed/Direction: (Southwest 5) Waves: (1 Footers, Calm) Location: (57-59 west, 19-20N) =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: (5) Total Boated: (2) Species Breakdown: (1 King, 1 steelhead) Hot Lure: (Green dodger with green fly, "yellow bird" dodger with green fly) Trolling Speed: (1.8-2.4 SOG) Boat Depth: (160-180 ft) Lure Depth: (93 ft rigger, 260 dipsey on 1.5 setting) ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Set up in 120 feet and marked one fish after another- so we trolled 120-140 for a few hours with nothing to show... Worked out to 160-180 (outside most of the boats) directly off the channel to the old light house, and had all of our action between 9 and 11 am. The salmon was about 25 lbs, which kind of makes up for relatively slow fishing. THe steelhead was close to the limit, so hes still swimming. Interestingly, there was alot of bait in that 120-140 range, so I wonder if those fish werent firing because of that? Any thoughts? We have been marking alot in that depth of water, but can never seem to get those fish to go...
  7. My absolute favorite time to catch browns is early june in that 20-40 foot of water. Depends on the year/conditions though. The Browns are bigger this time of year
  8. My SOG on the GPS was 1.4-3.5 all saturday morning. Thats close enough, right?
  9. Thanks steve- I can never find people to go with.... Does that seem possible? I'd love to have you come some time. I owe you for those Seneca Lake trips. Get my number from uetz if you want Bobs Boy- Im usually on 8 (a good channel if you can filter through the BS)
  10. krenzers- the boat is continuity, but not by my choosing (it was named that when I bought it)
  11. Yeah, the biggest one had spawned recently for sure. She still had a handful of those old brown looking eggs in her. Interesting question- does that grow back from year to year? anyone know?
  12. ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 5/30/09 Time on Water: 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM Temp/Weather: windy and cold, overcast most of the day Wind Speed/Direction: W at alot Waves: 2-4 Footers Surface Temp: 50°F =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 10 Total Boated: 6 Species Breakdown: 6 steelhead Hot Lure: Stinger, black/white or black silver, red stuff on top Down Speed: 2-3 mph Boat Depth: 150-210 ft Lure Depth: 50 or less ft ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Took the old man out- Slow in the morning, with only one steelie on the top. It picked up quite a bit at about 8:30 until we left at 10, once we figured out the downrigger situation. Most of the action was on the riggers 50 down (or on the free sliders on those same riggers). Did get a few to go on the dipseys at the end, setting 3 90-100 back. They seemed to be concentrated from 25-50 down. Overall, not too bad.
  13. Channel 8 and 68 are best. Close to shore anywhere from what I hear
  14. Fished this morning 5-8am- 3 for 7, all cookie cutter browns, all VERY close to shore (as that was the only place with mud). Larger stickbaits, and blue seemed to be the ticket. We spent the morning west of the trailer park to maxwell. Anyone getting them east? Also, has anyone seen them out any deeper? Took a swing to 20 feet to no avail
