  1. Based on the number of "skippers" and shorts I caught this year (sometimes more than a dozen per day, all released if possible) there should at the very least be alot of those 8-15 lb fish hanging around next year. Capt vince brings up an important issue with "angling pressure on the skippers".... Has anyone found a method to avoid hooking those little buggers, or minimizing the pressure? They are as aggressive as anything I catch anywhere- hell, they'll even hit mag spoons and dodgers. I try to dehook them without even touching them, but it is not always possible. At the Oak a few days this year I literally couldnt get away from them, no matter where I went
  2. Just got most of my pics from the year organized. Here are some of the best ones. Alot of the rest were Catch and Release... Really a good year overall. The fall salmon bite was a bit weak (though excellent during the summer). Biggest King only about 26 lbs. Spring cant get here fast enough... A double- this one was chaos First King at the Oak
  3. How exactly do you even get down 200-225'? A 15-20 lb ball with how much cable? I've gotten down 150 before but have never even considered that deep... [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

    IBAY!!

If you are driving that far be prepared to try sodus or little sodus too- they all have their days. We've been murdering them the last few weeks. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  5. Guys I am interested in painting my own spoons, and just wanted to know what everyone else out there does. Do you guys air brush, hand paint? if so, is there a kit that you use? where do you get the paint? Once I have the goods I can figure it out. Im gonna have a lot of free time this winter.... I get frustrated when I know what I want, but cannot find it.... and if I can, it costs 6-8 bucks a pop when I could get a blank for half that. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks Abe
  6. I don't know what happened to long pond. Shut down 2 weeks ago- actually was decent in Oct. Fair haven worth the drive. Coal docks are by the state park on the east side [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  7. On the Boat 2 five gallon pales full The biggest ones- all over 12"
  8. Destroyed them on fair haven today. 2 man limit 8-11:30 on the east side. Deeper was better. Best consistent size I have ever seen.... probably 20 over 12" Big fatheads and green plastic did the trick. Nice weather for a change too. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

Mr. Twister twister tail in green or white on a 32nd ounce jig. I don't even jig it, just let the drift do it for me [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

    sodus 10/28

Excellent action in sodus today on perch. SE end in 15 fow yielded a one man limit in just over 2 hours. Big fatheads and 2 inch plastics did the damage. Many were 10+ inches. Finally..... [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

    Irond. Bay

Did 26 biguns in fair haven on Saturday. Mostly deeper water, over 24 feet, a lot on worms and fatheads. A few over 12 inches, most 9-11, with a TON of throwbacks. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

    Port Bay

Jumbo perch will move in over the next month or so. Then they'll be there until next April. I love this time of year! [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

    perch

Fished sodus 9/11 in the lake. Caught nothing till we hit 30 fow... then did 24 good keepers 9-10 inches in 20 minutes. Had to leave shortly after finding them. Found em in front of the trailer park. All males.... [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  15. Sadly customer service IS optional these days, and a certain popular sonar producer has an aweful rep... and it is NOT humminbird or garmin or raymarine (and I have no issues with my furuno)... nice to hear that hummindird does the right thing [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  16. I fished the weekend and got one each day- a steelie and a beautiful Atlantic. 100-160 and 190-220 couldn't have looked better on my screen. They were deep, but active and streaking. Just not on the bite. Heard much of the same from some very experienced ams and charters. I'll be out again tomorrow. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

    Question: Perch

I am all for a 8 inch size limit. No point in keeping them smaller. Seems to work for Crappie
  18. No, but only a month until them buggers are in the bay!!!! I'm certainly ready for them.
  19. The second pic looks like a huge coho.... [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  20. On the upside I beleive that there is a Derby winning steelie around the oak [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  21. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Continuity/Fish Doctor ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/21 Time on Water: 7-12 Weather/Temp: cool and cloudy Wind Speed/Direction: SE 10 Waves: 1-3 Surface Temp: 70 Location: 29.5-30.2 north, 14-15 west LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 10 Total Boated: 5 Species Breakdown: all steelies, one screamer lost Hot Lure: Paddle with atomiks, mag green glow alewife, purple gator Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: 500+ Lure Depth: 50-90 riggers, 210-300 dipseys, 400 copper ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Decent action most of the day, once we got past 29.5 north (took a while to get there). All very nice steelies, a few 7-10 lbs. we did lose one legitimate major- a bad case of the dropsies today. I lost one mega-bull steelie... Everything took 1 or 2 shots, even my 400 copper!! Oy that is a longggg fight. Where the heck are all the big salmon? Back to Sodus for the remainder of the season, starting tomorrow. The oak treated me well, just not with majors. Hear the bite is on back to the east end.
  22. Color doesn't really matter IMHO. The deeper you are the lower the setting. Use a 3 to 1 ratio usually. Ie setting 1.5 out 270 gets you to about 90, setting 2 out 210 should getcha about 70. Keep on mind that this is with wire- you may need slightly more with braid. If o were you id just start a bit short and let out a line every little while til you get a hit. I run my dipsey as my deep line quite often... [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  23. It must be your weight spinning. Or maybe you let it down too fast. I doubt this has anything to do with the release [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  24. Keep one rigger deep and cold (mid 40s is fine). These almost always get kings, though with somewhat less action on many days. Soon enough they will be running and won't care what the temp is. Kings like the coldest water of all of them in my experience. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  25. Dipseys are an absolute must for late summer kings. J plugs can work well, but really no better than spoons or dodgers. Just another weapon... [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
