If anyone shoots a 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 yo buck this year and doesn’t want the cape, I would be very appreciative to pick it up from you. I’m looking to use it for a shoulder mount taxidermy project I’m working on

Dang wish I logged on yesterday.  I am not getting my buck mounted this year and called my taxidermist to see if he wanted the cape and he had a few extra so he was good. So I cut  him to do a euro!  😐.

  2. Well  I started my all day sits today, although it was my 50th sit of the season.  I let one fly,  not my biggest buck but we have had some cool trail cam pictures and videos of him. It Was a bit nerve wracking as the blood trail was actually pretty crappy and we jumped him 5hours after the shot. Made me question where I actually did hit,  although it looked like a perfect shot.   But we went back in 2 hrs after and he was dead 50 yds from where we bumped him.    There was a couple bigger bucks I was holding out for but he gave me a perfect 25 yds shot  so I let it fly. And got  my dad and cousin out to help with the recovery  so that was fun!

  3. Well Tuesday night we decided to go sit me my dad and my cousin.  One of our shooters bucks was there the night before on multiple cameras, so we said let's give it a try!   My cousin had to work a bit was able to get there around 4 me and Dad got set up by 3.  So before my cousin got there had a couple bucks in one of the food plots eating.  Told my cousin to sit a different one so he didn't spook those ones. So he got in the stand  and 15 min later he sends me a text better get the dear hurst ready.   I was like what did u shoot. (we aren't shooting does). And he's like it's my biggest bow buck

Not 100% sure which one he is thou.  I'm like ok he thought it was one of the broken times bucks we have on camera.  So I was like he said **** looked good so I said ok wait an hour or so and then go check the blood.   About 30 min later my dad's calling me. I have a doe like 30 yds in front of me. So I text him I'm like what's up deer too close to me to talk.   He's like I shot one. So I called him after the deer worked a little ways from me.  I was like what did u shoot he goes I think it's the broken tine buck but not 100% sure. I was like ok  cool  he said 20 yd shot and he thinks it crashed right behind him.

So after a bit my cousin goes to look and my dad waits about 30 min and just checks where's he heard it last. And within 10 minutes both of them send me pics they had their deer!  Both deer weren't the deer we initially  thought either haha.   So I waited like 10 minutes and got down and went to my dad he was closer to where I was sitting.  And had my cousin go get out sxs and bring it over.  And we celebrated and got both bucks out and took a few pictures.   Fun night for sure!  Now it's time for me to get it done!  Been out pretty every morning and evening so far only missed one morning sit.   And seen 8 bucks but all small.  Waiting to get into good spots till big ones daylight more so just hunting more observation spots and spots I can take a doe if I want!

Lots of good advice given. I have and have mounted 100+ scopes….everything from Leupold, Nikon, Bushnell, Zeiss and Swarovski…..only one scope failure and it was a cheapo Bushnell. Rarely is it a scope failure, although certainly in the realm of possibilities but usually scope failure symptoms are erratic shots all over the place, slippage if your windage/elevation knobs, rattling when shook, rapid drops (good group and all of a sudden an outlier with a 10” drop). I’d do this:

1.) shoot all your shots with a bench rest

2.) buy a good scope mounting kit and fat wrench for torquing. If you’re spending $1500 on a scope, spend a few hundred more on good mounting tools. learn how to lap the rings properly

3.) torque your rings to spec and lap them

4.) mount scope and bore sight and torque to spec

5.) shoot at 50 yards first, get a good group 2” high and then move out to 100 yards dead zero if most of your shooting is at that range

6.) see what your MZ likes (dirty vs clean bore, swab before shot etc). That being said, I do not think it’s a bore fouling issue at 9” of rise (1-2” maybe but not a foot)

7.) after a good group, shake your gun, turn upside down, etc and shoot another group (when we’re in the field our guns are put through all kinds of stuff so mimic the real world scenario)

if you can’t get a good group doing this, then it sounds like bad scope but there’s just so many other variables that you haven’t tackled

    Pm me if further ?’s

Yes,  agree 100%.   It could be the scope but I have only had one scope failure and it was a scope built for .22 put on an air rifle and it broke the reticles pretty quick.   like I said and u know.  a lot of time is spent lapping rings to get them to fit perfectly. I never knew how bad rings could be till I lapped a set and was like wow!  But  a tight scope and good rings make a world of difference on a gun staying accurate after some bumping around.

  5. Dang!  ya those are definitely chip shots for the muzzy!! Only thing u should be worried about is the drop on your bullet at ranges 125-225 ( for those of us not shooting smokeless) lol.  I definitely agree with them.  Your scope is getting moved somehow. It's not the gun.  Either putting it in the case or taking it out,  or even how your holding it it may be hitting something. But either way it's moving the scope.  The bench guys have a whole science on making their scopes aligned.  Is it a new scope?   Definitely worth  checking  your mounting hardware.  And even giving it a little (stress test), wiggle it around put the gun in the case. Try to imitate the abuse of hunting.  Then shoot it again.

  6. Went and changed a bunch of batteries in cameras before the storm. Dad and cousin still have buck tags so hoping to find one for them to shoot!    have a few decent bucks around but a few of the other big boys have gone mia.   So we will see if something happens for them got my fingers crossed.

  7. Only been out a couple times with others to watch them try and kill a buck. And checked a few cameras.  But other than got all the deer meat cut up.

And yesterday took advantage of the no wind to go put a hurting on some perch, was definitely a crush fest did a 3 man limit being pretty picky in what we kept!

Hoping to find a good buck for my cousin or dad to get.  So I'm still scouting even if not for me, still love to find some good ones!
