I'm not feelin bad. That just seems to be the way it goes sometimes. I wasted too much time on the southend around the crib where the were no fish! Fish all over between tom's and long point but i just didnt have the time that day. I only trolled it for about an hour or so.
I plan on going friday if i can get this apartment wrapped up and ready to rent by the end of the day tomorrow. I'll probably run Jtd Legends and Hi Fin Trophy Divers. I'll let you guy know if i do any good ( if i make it out).
or i may just troll for some eyes!

Bob,
This is only my second year of musky fishing and i've never fished them this late in the year. Any suggestions? whats your game plan for halloween weekend?

Just wondering if anyone fished chautauqua last week? I went sunday morning for a few hours and nothing. I started in the south end where there was tons of bait fish but no fish. Later went to deeper water since the temp has dropped considerably this past week. Marked bait fish all over between long point and toms point along with a ton of fish but no takers. I only trolled that area for about an hour and a half and i had to get goin. I'd like to get out friday before archery starts.

Sunday morning there were a bunch of guys jigin ice fishing jigs off the structure along long point. I've been fishing this lake my whole life, the best way to get them is hot n tots trolling.

nice catch
better yet, nice HAT! go big blue!

The color of the fins are too green. Also the appear to be pointed. Musky are more rounded at the ends.

Walleye fishing has been real tough this year on chautauqua. I fished in a small tournament 2 weekend ago. Do you have down riggers? Most of the eyes have been in the dewitville area first thing in the morning. It's also been good in front of the vikings club. there are two or three deep holes. Down riggers at 40' hot n tot tipped with a worm. Just circle around those holes. You can also try the south end. It was more productive than the north in july and august. From Cheineys farm to about half way up towards the bridge 18 foot of water. Downrigger balls about 6' up from the bottom keeping your hot n tots a few feet off the bottom 2.2mph has been the magic speed on the gps. Good luck!!

kit was a tuff day of fishing. We had one one within the first 2 minutes and lost it . Not even a bite after that. I heard there was only 4 fish all day. I didn't make it to the cook out, I was ready to get home. My buddy and I had a late night friday in watkins glen.

I just booked a hotel so i hope there are spots still available. I cant get in touch with either of those guys. Do we register at the launch?

there was a musky tournament out off ohio on saturday. That's why yoy saw so many boats

Just wondering who won the tournament? How big was the fish? I didn't make it to the dinner because we only had 2 fish both in the 30's by 4. We got a nice one at 4:30. 45": Go figure. That's the way it goes.

chautauqua tony needs the beer helmet. you know- the one with spots for two beers and the straws that come out of it.
I always thought those things were stupid but now that you mentioned it one of those would be great for a day of casting for skies!! They do have a purpose after all!

We will spend some time on the south end Friday. But if we dont have good luck there I will be north come Saturday morning! I am much more comfortable up there! I just really want to catch a big girl on the cast! I think that would be the ultimate Musky Experience! My best so far is 37" casting. not bad but not good enough! 50" is my goal; maybe it will take 10yrs but maybe not!!
I hear ya. I defiantly want to start casting more!! I'd love to see a 50" ski smack a top water lure! I agree that is the ultimate musky experience. There's only one problem with casting, it's impossible to drinks the beers!
-
gonna be in the south end are you?
Im going to start there. My boat is on a lift about 10 houses before smith boys. I can be fishing the crib in about 6.5 seconds after my boat touches the water. Im sure i'll make my way up to the north end before the days over!
-
Alright Tony, Glad to hear. Hope there are hungry next Saturday! Sahllow down by the cribs isn't it?
How fast you trolling, Any luck casting?
Yeah, its shallow. I was fishing 10 - 12 fow, trolling at 4.7 -5 mph. I didn't do any casting but im sure it's good around that area. But im not a pro
-
Well i ended my cold spell today. I went out for about 3 1/2 hours tonight. I got a 37" after an hour on a jtd. fire tiger believer. Got another nice rip on the same lure about an hour after that but lost it! Both were right in front of the crib.

How about i just see you at the dinner. I can wait to the end of the tournament. I just wanted to make sure that i didn't have to be present to win. Thanks Larry!
-
Larry, where will you be giving out the St. Croix Rod at? I wont be able to make it to the seminar due to a prior engagement.

If you have a car top boat that can be hand launched Lime Lake has 45"+ Tiger Muskies! They have been growing over the years because on next to no fishing pressure due to lack of regular boat access. The locals don't fish for them that much.

There should be a public launch just down the road from Lime Lake Marine. My dad bought a boat there 2 years ago and they dropped it in the lake for a test run. If i remember correctly the launch put you in a small canal that brings you right out on the lake. It was a 23' boat so no one should have problems launching there.
-
Well im glad to hear you did well. I must have the only boat that didn't catch a thing this weekend. :@ I went out sunday afternoon got skunked and this morning. Trolled for about 5 hours this morning and not a darn thing. I may go toward the later end of the week. Let me know how you do if you go. Im cold as ice right now. I can never find these hot spots.

anyone goin to Chautauqua this weekend? I'll hopefully get out a couple time before the weekends up. Had a ripper 2 nights ago working the ledge at long point. It was off quick. I haven't boated a fish in a couple weeks. I need to put an end to my drought this weekend!! Hopefully with a pig. If anyone goes out, let me know how ya did. Good luck!
In case anyone's walleye fishing, they're starting to turn on in the north end. MY buddy got six the other day in Magnolia bay. 32 foot of water.
-
I was hoping to find like a cottage on the lake that i could rent for the weekend. Have you guys ever heard of Wright's Waneta lake cottages? Thanks for the info
-
MY buddy and i were thinking about going to this tournament. I've never fished this lake before and not familiar with the area. Anyone familiar with this lake? Looking for some lodging.
Also just wondering about the size and depth of this lake. If anyone is fishing it, is it a casting or trolling bite?
Thanks for any info!!
