Hey guys I took my little bro down the the erie canal for some newbie carp fishing, because I wanted him to tangle with a nice fish rather than a tiny sunny. So armed with my own vanilla soaked corn we chummed up a nice shoreline section, cast our corn and waited. Lo and behold we got a few nice rips but the carp would drop the bait and we were getting frustrated. I assumed the hooks were too apparent to the sensitive mouths so I loaded each hook up with all the corn it could hold and it did the trick. My little bros line fired and the fight was on! After some coaching and reminding him to fight like the river monsters guy, my little bro landed this beauty carp in 15 min on 8lb test! The smile says it all

The way I figure it the walleye from the canal migrate in with the filling of the canal from erie and other non canal sources. My gut feeling says these fish are clean and good to eat but I really dont know nor have I eaten any fish from the canal.

Bosco- Awesome info, and posts like that make this sight very valuable. Everyone else thanks for the information and I should be posting more wally pics soon!

Hahaha ha I know what you mean. But its cool as I do not catch them very often, but ya I really want to jig for them now because I would rather not drag in a wet bag (walleye) going trolling speed. Bosco if you have any tips for jigging em up or anything else let me know!

Yah we were trolling the deep divers and that is what this guy hit. but I want the fight while slowly floating and not trolling!

Ya thats right first time out and I connect with the target species!! We nailed one other smallmouth and had alot of hits but ended with one wally and one smallmouth. I am pretty stoked as it was a reasonable fish and now I just need to fine tune to get a bunch more. Also alot of nice arcs on the graph in the canal and I know alot of those are carp and sheepies, but I gotta believe that some of those are walleye as well. Man this gets me excited and now I wonder if I trolled against the current, if it would it be productive to float and jig live bait on the way back down? I am stoked! Enjoy the pic!

Wow awesome info! night or daytime?

So I hear that some wallys live in the canal and my buddy has caught an enormous walleye out of the canal, are these flukes or is there really enough in there to go after? Would love to hear some info on this as I live two seconds away from the Brockport-Spencerport section and I would not mind targeting some walleye on my boat in the canal in my spare time! Oh and Catch and Release of course!

Lake Trout Jigging-Will this Lure Selection Work?!

One last question, I got some 3/4 ounce white heads today and they seem pretty darn awesome. I know they are not as heavy but in depths up to 80ft will they get the job done? -

Lake Trout Jigging-Will this Lure Selection Work?!
idn713 replied to idn713's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Ah ok ok. I figured that the nice fish head profile would help with the realism and one ounce would really give me some good touch down deep. Should I maybe go to a fatter shad body to add some girth to match the head? I figure some decent size to the jig should not matter much, as lakers got some pretty big mouths. I am just trying to work with what a got rather than buying a bunch more jigs.
