Started in 100' and trolled out to about 250'. After reaching 200' dow started marking a lot of bait and a few fish down about 50' but couldn't get any takers. Once we hit 250' decided to troll back in and see if there was anything up close. At about 175' had a nibble on the wire diver out 180' with a 42nd combo but was off before we got to the rod. That was it. Trolled all the way back into 60' without marking anything until we hit 60'. Many fish sitting on the bottom at 60' but again no takers. I'm assuming they were lakers so maybe next time out I will have to give the cowbells a try for the first time. Had a personal goal of trying to get through this season without getting skunked, but that fantasy ended quickly. Still have a lot to learn when it comes to getting on the fish. I am thinking I should of stayed out deeper where I was at least marking some fish and hopefully come across one that would bite.

I was hoping it was tough out there and just not me. Although it sounds like I had it tougher. Searched for 4-5 hours to only pull in two skippers. Think I had a better fish on the wire diver but never got it to the boat. Thanks for the report, definitely could use the help.

All hits came around the 135 ft depth with two on the 75 ft rigger and one on the 40 ft. rigger. One King was pretty decent, other two were pretty small. Boat Depth: 100-180 Lure Depth: 55-80 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Was my second time out in my second year of Lake O. salmon fishing and (knock on wood) haven't been skunked this year. I'm calling that an improvement over a frustrating start last year. Switched my diver rod to wire (from Power Pro) the start of this year and for some reason it helped. I never caught one fish on a diver last year, or on a SpinDoctor/fly combo. But this year it has almost half the fish I've caught so far (compared to the two riggers) and some of the nicer ones. Fished mainly in the 140-160 depth and found around 70-80 feet down was the best producer. Caught our best King for the day about 30 secs after adjusting the diver from 185 back(1.5 setting) to 240. I don't have any down speed/temp reading yet, so I generally just follow the herd with the hope that they know something. Still learning every time I go out and still find it every bit exciting as the first when that release pops. I owe this site and the many contributors 100% for all the knowledge I have gained, thank you.

Talked to Humminbird and they said my issue was the transducer again. Seems they had a bad batch of transducers that delaminate inside over time and cause the issues that I reported. They sent me back a transducer with my unit that they supposedly thoroughly tested. I hope that is the case, but I have my reservations. Not gonna be happy if I am going through this pain again in another month. This will be the 4th transducer I have put on since spring.

Got mine back yesterday with a replacement transducer, no mention of what was repaired or if even an issue was found. I'm going to call them today. Really would like to know if they found something and what the issue was. If they just sent it back with a new transducer, I won't be happy if I am going through this again in another month.

With my 757c, I would start losing the bottom graphics that would quickly degrade down to showing almost nothing of the bottom. They would send me a new transducer and it would work fine again for about a month each time. Then I would notice small gaps in the bottom display. Over about 2 days it would then degrade down to shown a small pulse of the bottom every 10-15 secs and then basically down to nothing and completely losing the bottom depth. GPS and temperature worked fine. I get mine back from repair today, interested to see if they say what was repaired.

I bought a new 757c for this season and also had trouble with it. They sent me out a new transducer twice and everything was good each time for about a month. Failed again on me and I sent the unit and transducer back last week. They have repaired it and I should have it back tomorrow. Haven't heard what they found or repaired, but I'm hoping this will take care of my issues. It has been frustrating having so many issues with a brand-new piece of equipment and I wasn't too happy about spending money on it to ship it back. But at least so far their customer service has been good and hopefully will be able to resolve it. Don't like the idea of having to buy something else. Well, I probably wouldn't mind it, but the wife would kill me!

Caught the Atlantic after about 20 mins on the water in about 140ft. About an hour later I caught the first King in 220fow and decided to keep him. I cooked him on the grill using a cedar plank, olive oil, minced garlic, chopped dill, lemon and salt/pepper. I was expecting a stronger flavor, not sure why?? Maybe because of how it sometimes smells on the lake. But it was the mildest salmon I had ever had, very good. I was just about to give into the heat when I trolled over the same spot I got the first King. My deep rigger at 75ft goes off and when I grab the rod this fish takes off. Rips off over 400ft, but then came right back at me. So far he is my biggest King ( out of all 4 of them. ) Got every fish on a NE troll. I'm sure it has something to do with the current. But all I've got to go by is my GPS speed. Can't wait to get back out there tomorrow.

It was just hard when I had them in the boat because I was so pumped and was rushing to get them back in the water. Glad I had the pics to look at afterward. I did just buy a tranny spoon, but once I take it out of the package I forget what it is called. They all look the same to me. If the wife and daughter saw the fish goo I had to clean up they would probably never get back in the boat. I just need to convince them I need a second boat built for fishing.

Caught my first salmon ever today, I'm still pumped. I believe it was an Atlantic, I'm not too good at telling them apart yet. He put up a great fight and made two runs, I was chuckling the whole time. Heard someone on the VHF say 60 down and 25 back, so I set up a NK That spoon there and wasn't long till I got him. Got small King that never tripped the release, found him there when I brought the line in for a spoon change and to clear the fleas. Got him 90 down, not sure what depth I was at when he hit. Finished the day with what I think is a decent King (especially when I'm use to catching nothing) got him down 60 in about 180 ft of water. I'm not sure what the names of the spoons were that I got the kings with, but they were some combo of green and black. I released all the fish. I was pretty distracted to recall all the details, but it sure was fun. Can't wait to get out there again later in the week. Tomorrow the boat has to do the transformation back into a pleasure craft for the wife and kid.

Thanks for the offer FX, may have to take you up on that sometime. Still struggling, but just got some manual downriggers so hopefully that will help my cause. Now I just have to figure out how to squeeze them onto my family/ski boat. Luckily I work at a tool shop and should be able to whip something up that will do the trick.

I recently placed 30lb Power Pro on my Accudepth Plus 47lc and used it one time with a deeper diver. Well the next time I went to use the rod I noticed something wasn't right. Had issues reeling the line in and no matter how tight I set the drag I could pull line off. I noticed when the line came off that the spool wasn't spinning, so I thought (even though the schematic didn't show it) that the spool was two pieces and I hate busted something. To make a long story short, after I unspooled the line(which did not come off smoothly, seemed like it was catching itself), I realized that wasn't eh case and it was the line slipping on the spool. So my question is should I be using a backing for Power Pro? Mono or electrical tape? Is there some special technique for spooling the line other than what the directions show on the box? I am a total beginner, seems everyday I stumble across a new puzzle. I'd be completely lost if it wasn't for the resources and people that make up this website. Thanks Tom

I figured I would hijack into this thread instead of starting another since I have basically the same exact issue. Screen is perfectly clear until I go over 5 mph then I start getting small light returns peppering the screen. The faster I go the more I get and with Fish ID on I starting getting the fish icons popping up. The depth reads fine even over 20mph and I get a pretty decent return of the bottom, not quite as refined at 20mph but seems to be pretty accurate. I know the problem is caused by cavitation, because revving the motor in neutral doesn't cause the returns to pop up. So I was wondering if I'm going at a moderate speed say 7-10mph and getting these dots of returns on the screen, but the bottom detail seems to be good, if I shut off fish ID should I be able to pick out fish arches and locate fish and not bother with the fish id. Or if the Fish ID is getting messed up, will it also mess things up for me to manually locate fish? Not sure how good the Fish ID feature is I guess. Maybe I really need to get a pic and post it.
