had the same results in the same area yesterday on the shoreline. found cloudy water, temp changes, bait and birds but no fish. covered alot of water. pretty disappointing. think i saw you running out for lakers. talked to a charter captain fishing the same area yesterday and he didnt get a single fish on the shoreline. gonna give it a rest til something changes. it can only get better! best, mark

id like to mount a 10 gang fuse block under dash to power my electronics. sonar,vhf, stereo etc. i plan to use 10ga wire and run the ground to the battery. im not sure how to run the positive side. id like it to run through my perko dual battery switch so everything can be shut off by switch. can i hook up to the perko switch with my 10ga wire and ring terminal to power this fuse block? thanks, mark

fished west of sodus yesterday morning. started in 13 fow and covered lots of water from 9-25fow. marked quite a few fish in 25 fow but didnt have a single hit. ran sticks and spoons, short cores, riggers. found temps up to 42 degrees, clear water, stained water. nothing. good to get some fresh air anyway... best, mark

Im in search of a new treble hook for spoons. I have lots of spoons to re-rig and the owner stingers ive been using are just too pricey for this many spoons. I want a plated, o shaugnessy treble hook, 2 or 3x strong, standard length. the hook in picture is perfect for what i want but i dont know who makes it. super sharp, perfect length and wire size. i bought a bunch of spoons from a charter captain and most had this hook on it. also bought some used yecks that had this hook but have never seen them new in a package. any suggestions? thanks, mark

hi, id like to try some 1 and 2 color leadcore setups on my planer board rods for spring browns. i thought about putting loops on each end of leadcore by stripping back some lead and making a perfection loop and looping that to the mono on planer board rods. can easly change them out with the loops.  thought it would be a good way to keep a spoon down off a board or make a shallow stick go deeper. think this would work? any tips/suggestions? thanks, mark

hi, because of fleas ive been rigging most of my rigger rods with 30# trilene big game. i like light tackle so my rods are not rated up to 30#'s, the heaviest is 12-25#. on spoon rods i usually run a 15# flouro leader but on flasher fly rods which i sometimes run on riggers the weakest link is the mainline. should i be worried about overlining these rods? any ideas on rigging these rods with light tackle in mind but still be able to deal with the fleas when they show up? id love to use 17 or 20# mainline on spoon rods. also, what is your favorite mono line for riggers?  best, mark

I've had horrible experiences with copper line so i have been reluctant to try wire for dipsies. I've had good luck with braid dipsies. I gave in this year and got 4 new setups and 4 spools of 7 strand torpedo wire. My plan was to fill the first one backwards to determine how much backing then flip it around on another empty reel. I started reeling on wire and got two or three kinks in the first 100'. Was putting tension on line with my hand but im thinking i need to mount the spool on something to keep the line from flying off. Any tips/suggestions? Any way to remove those kinks? About ready to get rid of this stuff. thanks, mark

Got some new gear recently and decided to try 4 coldwater 30 reels. Anyone else try them? Read that they had a little trouble with the counters in trials but hopefully they worked that out. Seems like the okuma 30 size is similar to the daiwa 47 size? plan on running wire on two of them and hope that 1000' of wire fills spool. seems like a nice reel, time will tell. mark

ive been using two mooching setups in my boat for two seasons now. its not a true mooching rod but paired up with the reel it makes a fun setup. 8'6" okuma glt rigger rod with daiwa mooching reel. caught everything from spring browns to big kings on them. the drag system in the reel is awesome! real smooth and powerful. plus the reel holds a ton of line. most guys that go with me and try them love them after getting through their first knuckle busting experience! i also like the guides on the bottom and having a left hand crank just like if i was using a spin setup. best, mark

i need a new power winch for my trailer. any recommendations on brands and models? looking to stay away from the low end models that dont have the power. have a 22' penn yan softop with dry weight of 3800lbs and a roller trailer. thanks, mark

we've been hunting the east end about once a week. not as good as last year but we are getting birds. old squaw and a few scoters. best, mark

the south end should have plenty of browns around this time of year. we got into some last year around this time down near the yacht club on the west side and also on the first drop off on the south end. i wouldnt worry so much about temp but instead concentrate on marks and bait on your sonar. fish small spoons....
