  1. Had a great day on owasco today. Landed 15-20 lakers(lost track) and 2 rainbows. Dropped another 10-15 fish. I was cursed today. Tons of bait and hooks. Best depth was 80-100 fow. 70 and 50 on riggers with sliders, 155 and 210 on Dipsies. All yeck spoons on riggers and flies on Dipsies. Biggest fish was prob 6 or 7 lbs but they were feisty, silver and put up a nice fight. Had the lake to ourselves. Cant figure out how to post pics on my phone. Best, mark

  2. I'm in need of some sort of box or soft tackle pouch to store flashers with flies and leaders on them. I have a large storage box in the boat that I just place rigs in and it makes a mess. Any ideas? I'd like a fabric type pouch that has slots that I can roll up or maybe even hang inside my storage box. Thanks a lot, mark

Took advantage of this stable weather and fished hard this past week. Did two evening trips and two morn trips. Fished 5-6hrs each day. Landed several kings each trip. Didnt really keep a close count as i was too busy reeling! i think best trip was 9 for 12. Action overall was excellent. 120FOW has been best but there moving in with the cold water. Several fish over 20 including one that stripped 600' off on a dipsy. Mostly spoon bite for me but also did a few on flies on the dipsys. 48-58 riggers, 130-165 dipsys....

Had another good day in sodus. Hit several fish early in 118FOW. Spoons and flies. Worked into 85FOW and did real well. Several kings over 20, few teenagers and a couple skippys. Also landed one small steelhead and one small atlantic popped off right at the back of the boat when i tried to handline it. Riggers at 48 and 58, standard dipsy on 2 out 165, mag dipsy on 2 out 135. Flies on dipsys, spoons on riggers... best, mark

  5. I think they look great! I'm a tying freak so it's nice to see a post like this... One suggestion is "less is more". On a single color fly I try not to use more than 5", maybe 6" of Mylar. I think you get a better profile that way. Try mixing your colors and you'll get some neat custom colors. Best, mark

Ps. One of my favorite colors. From the outside; 1" yellow mirage, 1 1/2" blue-green, 1 1/2" hammer green, 1" red....

  6. I've had the worst luck with copper. My first 300 turned into 175 after two tangles but I recently got a new spool of 300. I refuse to go any longer than that even if it works! I learned with the first spool not to run copper over Dipsies. At least that is where I've had problems. I got two tangles today and here was my setup...spoon rigger out first down 125, then 300 copper on board then mag dipsey on 2 out 240. had a king manage to tangle into the copper and even cross over the dipsey once. Could just be bad luck but I'm wondering if my setup was too tight. Also had tangle on 10 color core which I've never had problem with.... Ff rigger down 115, stand dipsey on 2 out 300, 10 color core. Tangled with dipsey. No fish on this side. Am I doing something wrong here. Never had tangles like this. Thanks, mark

Fished out front of sodus today. Most action was in 150 fow. Best setup was green yeck spoon on rigger parked at 125'. Also hooked a couple on mag dipsey on #2 out 240' with 42nd spin dr and green glow fly. Nice day to be out but the heat definitely chased us off just as we got them dialed in. Put photos from phone on photobucket but can't figure out how to post them... dont know how to cut copy on phone but the house computer worked!

  8. fished the north end of owasco today. tons of bait and fish around. landed a bunch of fish in 75-95FOW. biggest problem was FLEAS. i have never seen it like this. they were so bad that they were sticking to the downrigger cables and jamming the riggers when i tried bringing up the weights. cables had a 1/4" sheath of fleas on them... the fleas were darker in color than what im used to seeing and seemed to stick to gear really bad. i can usually shake most of them off with my gear but not today. all well, boats a mess but there is lots of life out there. best, mark

  9. thanks guys. the job is done. took the boat out and there is absolutely no noise now except for the engine which ran like a top. gonna watch carefully for water in the bilge now. replaced all bellows, gimbal bearing. had a mechanic friend do the job with me and the only thing we can think caused water intrusion is from the gasket for the outdrive. torqued all bolts to spec and will be watching carefully. u joints had some surface rust on them which i didnt like seeing but they seem to be in good shape. greased them properly. planning on replacing them in the fall which will give me a chance to check for any more water intrusion....

  10. we've been experimenting with this as well. i think the landing ratio is definitely better with the single but i noticed this year with the kings that we hooked a bunch in the eye or did other damage. we release most of our fish as well. verdict is still out for me. im thinking they work better for lakers that seem to get hooked in the top or bottom center of the mouth and also noticed that the smaller singles work real well on smaller fingerlakes landlocks. i hate seeing a 15" landlock commit suicide by thrashing with a treble in its mouth...
