  1. Fair Haven will be hosting Wounded Warriors on June 17th and 18th out of Anchor Resort and Marina.  It is run through the All Aboard Fair Haven Fishing Association.  This year Fair Haven is anticipating 24 combat wounded veterans to participate.

The veterans coming this year will arrive Friday evening and be escorted through town at 6:00PM in honor of their service to the American Legion for a family style dinner.  Local businesses are playing a big part in this effort with donated facilities, rooms, and cabins for them to stay in and helping to supply meals throughout the event.  Turtle Cove is hosting the captains' dinner for the captains of the boats to plan for the next day and share information to help ensure success for all involved.

Friday evening the veterans are able to wet a line, cook marshmallows, and relax at Anchor until they retire for the night.

On Saturday they are greeted by the captains prior to 5:30 and depart for a day on the water by 6:00AM to try to hook a "big" one.  Breakfast is donated by local establishments and some of Fair Havens home bakeries (like grandma used to make).  Upon returning to Anchor they are thanked for all they have done and given in service to the country and protection of our freedoms here at home as well as treated to a pig roast and picnic.

We need your help / what you can do.

If you will be in Fair Haven Friday evening try to make it to the parade through town on Main Street to show support for these soldiers.

If you are going to be fishing out of FH on Saturday you can be a real asset tot he success of the day for these folks and help put additional fish on the lines by sharing any information that is giving you success that day.  If you happen to get a program working (speed, depth, direction, color, etc...) please share it on channel 72.  Last year we had people help out and it made a tremendous difference for some of us and the success rate on the water that morning resulting in many more smiles.

If you are thinking about heading to FH to fish this would be that other reason to do so.  We will be out with the veterans from 6 - noon'ish.

If you are not able to fish on Saturday, but want to help out in an additonal way, money is needed to secure additional rooms and gifts of appreciation for these veterans who have served us all.

Any checks can be made out to AllAboard FHFA (just as it is typed without a space) and dropped off at Screwy Louies Sportshop or Anchor Marina and Resort, or mailed to:

  2. The Fair Haven 321 tournament  top place three fish weight went to Team Fin-Angler with a total weight of 63 pounds 12 ounces.  The biggest fish was 23 pounds 8 ounces (king) also taken by Team Fin-Angler and the largest trout taken was a 15 pound 8 ounce lake trout by Team Flash Five.  Of the teams entered half would not crack 25 pounds with their three fish weights - the good news is it is getting better.

Thank you to all who participated and to team Fin-Angler who donated an additional $100 to the net pen project.  Those who fish out of Fair Haven in passing may want to extend a thanks to Fred at Screwy Louies who acted as weigh master in between customers on a busy Saturday and Sunday, Joe and Sue Grondin who acted as our spotters on the break wall both days (Windtunnel), and Turtle Cove for keeping their doors open for us after hours so that we could stay cool while waiting for the results to be announced.

  3. We fished Friday through Monday and found fish each day but it was tough fishing to say the least without any single presentation being consistent.

The fish for us were divided into two active groups 60-65 feet down and 110 - 120 feet down with only one fish coming in the water between the two zones over the last 4 days.  Again color did not seem to matter much at all, nor did bait (present or not present).

The one thing outside of the two active zones for us was speed - we got most of our hits when we were moving a bit faster 2.7-2.9 (fish hawk X4) even with meat (including lakers).

The most up to date I can give you is that yesterday we fished for 4 hours and went 3/5 with better quality fish outside of 200 feet down again 60-65 and 110-120 meat, spoons, and flasher fly.  Orange, green, black and white, and UV Glow yesterday (if you see a pattern please share - I cannot). :headbang:

  4. Here are some other pictures from this weekend.  There are quite a few more with descriptions on the Fair Haven All Aboard facebook page and the Fair Haven Fishing Association facebook page.  There were a total of 15 boats that participated over the 2 days and another that was ready to go, but unfortunately had an engine issue.  All of these pictures were taken at Anchor Resort and Marina.  Again there were a lot of people and businesses involved in this effort and Alan will be listing them in the local Fair Haven paper with an article about the past weekend.

  5. Thank you to everyone who made this past weekend a success.  The weather was good, the fishing was tough but everyone returned with smiles and experiences that they would not have had without all of you, and on Sunday the "special" kids had a lot of fun on the bay.

First Fish Award went to Captain Werner and Crew of Popeye

Largest Brown Trout went to Captain Aaron Dingy and Crew of Playin Hookey

Largest Salmon award went to Captain Ed Derry and Crew of Landing Craft

I will be posting some pictures as I get them so that others can see what went on this past weekend.  We are already planning for next year (2016) June 17,18, and 19.

  6. We just received word that 42 veterans are signed up to come to FH this Friday and Saturday.  We presently have 15 boats signed up to help out with this effort.

See the above post for how you can help out with this community thank you to those who have given so much for us all.

Attached please find an itinerary for the two days with the veterans.

  7.            Fair Haven will be hosting Wounded Warriors and Special Needs kids on June 19th through the 21st out of Anchor Resort and Marina.  It is run through the All Aboard Fair Haven Fishing Association and has grown over the years.  This year Fair Haven is anticipating 24 - 30 veterans and another 24 - 30 kids.

The veterans coming this year range from recent wounded enlisties to a possible World War II Veteran.  They will be arriving Friday and there will be  a village parade honoring them at 6:00PM.  Local businesses are playing a big part in this effort with donated facilities, rooms, and cabins for them to stay in and helping to supply meals.  This is a true community effort (near and far - donations from as far away as a fire company in Ogdensburg NJ, Florida, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire) and everyone is trying to give what they can to make it another special event.

The veterans arrive Friday and are able to fish off of the docks at Anchor Marina and relax by the water for the afternoon.  Then at 6:00 the local fire station crew, Veterans, Freedom Riders, Car Club, and Captains proceed through the town to the American Legion where the guests of honor are treated to a full dinner.  They then head back to Anchor to hang out, fish, cook marshmallows, etc... until they retire for the evening.

On Saturday they meet at Anchor for a breakfast donated by stores and establishments in town and are given a goody tray for the boat.  They are then broken up into small groups of 2-3 and will spend the morning with various captains who are donating their time and boats trying to hook into a "big" one.  Upon returning to Anchor they are treated to a chicken barbeque and are publicly thanked for all that they have done and are presented with gifts of appreciation before they depart from Fair Haven.

On Sunday morning a group of children from various organizations come to Fair Haven and meet at Anchor for some light snacks before heading out on the bay to drown some worms in hopes of having their rods wiggle.  For many of these kids it is their first time on a boat and holding a rod in their hands.  After a few hours of fishing on the bay they return to Anchor and are treated to a kids barbeque.  Each kid is able to take their rod home with them in hopes that they use them again.

We need your help / what you can do.

If you will be in Fair Haven Friday evening try to make it to Main Street for the parade at 6:00PM.

If you are going to be fishing out of Fair Haven on Saturday you can help put additional fish in the boats for these veterans.  If you happen to get a program working (speed, direction, color, depth etc..) please share it on the radio, channel 72.  Last year we had people help out with information and it resulted in more rods wiggling and more smiles on the boats.  If you are thinking about heading to FH to fish this would be that other reason to do so.  We will be out with the veterans from 6 to noon.

If you are not going to be able to fish on Saturday or want to help out in an additional way, money is needed to secure additional rooms and gifts of appreciation for these veterans who have served us all, as well as enough rods for each of the kids to use and take home.

Thank you in advance for your support of this effort and thanks to Alan Avrich and Cindy Borozny for their efforts organizing this event.

  8. We designed the 321 so that it should not compete with the Pro-Am.

Some of the reasoning and differences are highlighted below:

    • the same weekend tends to be the slowest in the summer in Fair Haven so people have a better chance of finding reservations
    • Low entry fee (lower prize money as a result compared to Pro Am)
    • only 3 fish over 2 days can be weighed in with no points per fish (only total weight) which gives everyone a shot at winning from novice to professional

The Pro-Am is a great tournament and draws a competetive crowd who are dedicated to the tournament series - this is for the other folks who are not interested in the Pro AM (for whatever personal reason - i.e travel, fees, etc...), who never leave the Port of Fair Haven, or who might be in or coming to the FH area.

If you have any questions download the pdf file or PM me.

  9. Here is a picture of Werner "Popeye" with some volunteers on board taking the fish to the lake through the chute.  Thanks again to everyone who helped out in some way with this effort this season.  Also a thank you to Chris Drogi and Jim Jared for spearheading the pen project in Fair Haven many years ago.
