  1. Received my new wire rods from Atommik and some spinnys and just had to test them out. Launched at Myers around 315pm. Took us a little bit to set up but about 4pm had the first LL in the boat. If I remember right we had 7 fish landed on the dipsys. Probably around 6 hits and lost fish on dipsys. 3 hits on the downriggers but no fish landed from the downriggers. 4 lakers biggest being 7.5 lbs. One legal LL 19.5 inchs. Lost a real nice laker I believe from not having the drag set on the new rods. Broke the last hook off the fly. The action stopped as soon as the sun hit the hill tops. We a wrote everything down. Had a fish hit at least every twenty mins. Had a blast. Have more pics but left the camera in the boat but here is one of the lakers caught by Josh.

Ps. Atommik and BigWeenie products and their customer service are excellent. I have been ordering a lot of my stuff from both and they really go out of their way for you. I ordered my dipsy rods from Atommik Friday night and Tom had that in the mail Sat morning. Package arrived Monday morning. You just can't beat that. Thanks

  2. Def a Gizzard Shad. Went to school at SUNY Fredonia and I believe spring 06 it happened. We had that VHF virus sweep through and those fish died by the thousands in Dunkirk Harbor. With the West wind I could smell it from school. Those Shad are such a pain in the butt. I fished for steelhead in Dunkirk and just about every cast you would catch one. No joke!

  3. Sounds like your prop is slipping. Props have a rubber sleeve in them that go bad. If this is the case you need a new prop. The other scenario is you have the motor pitched to high and it is cavatating but I really don't think this is the case giving what you are describing. If you haven't already. Pitch your motor all the way down and try it. If it slips then you need a new prop. Good luck

  4. Yes they do have a therm! As far as the lower unit goes it should be ok. These parts can take this kind abuse usually. They just don't hold up to other operator errors such as leaving it partialy in gear. Just make your you check it often and before temps get below freezing make sure you change the oil again.

  5. Just got off the lake. Fleas are just about gone but the weeds are horrible. In front of all the points is where they were the worst. AES I marked aton of bait and lakers on bottom but weeds were bad. On the west side of lake accross from AES was fine. Marked lots of fish and bait but nothing like AES. I will be on the lake tomorrow.

  6. Ok first succesfull trip after 5 blowoff attempts= new boat ,2 more riggers ,2 dyspy rods setups 500.00 spinnies,200.00 flyes,800.00 lures , 6 more rod setups....just for starters.......total cost to tell wife oh bout a 100.00 bucks  ... maybe i could help ya a little send me pm....oh down forget 800.00 fishfinder and 500.00 down temp and speed...

LMAO! I'm just getting into it too. My wife knows better:( Its adding up quick. 4500 for the boat with 3 riggers and depthraider. 1000 for fishfinder with gps. 700 on rods and reels, 300 in tackle and need a lot more. And don't even get me started on gas!

  7. I was just told this the other day. 100 ft of copper equals 22ft down at a down speed of 2.2 mph. So 500 ft should put you in the range of 110 to 100 range with the added friction but keep in mind speed plays a huge factor which makes them so deadly. If you slow down it will sink deeper and if you speed up it will rise. The guy I fished with had two copper rigs set up. Both had the Penn 345GTi reel. One with 600' and 500' of copper backed with PowerPro. I believe the rods were 8'6" Eagle claws. Not sure what the action was. But we hooked fish on them. Good luck!

  8. I really hate cheaters! Glad to see they caught this person. We all spend way too much money and time to be a victim of a cheater. They give us a bad name and then the honest people who do win then get accused of cheating. Just ain't fair nor right!

  9. Daiwa Sealine 47LC reels are good and the Okuma Convector reels may be better. The Daiwas are nice and smooth with really nice drags but the Okumas have a better handle and seem stronger. Their drags leave some room for improvement though.

I been wanting to set ups some dipsys too. which size convector reels. Any rod suggestions. I primarly fish the fingerlakes but want to make the ocasional trips to the big o for kings. Thanks

  10. Ben! Wondering if I would run into youl here. Work tue, weds and thursdays the whole month of august. So I have lots of time to go out. Just picked the boat up today but before I bought they guys took me out. Caught a nice King salmon. Friday I should have my new fishfinder and I will be all set up besides have enough tackle.
