  1. May be a little late to the post but we had a similar problem last year at our grounds in wny. Previous years we would hear several birds gobblin at some point and see plenty throughout the year. Last season me and my dad heard a combined 3 gobbles during the season and saw 1 hen. This season we have been chasing birds everywhere again and have heard plenty of talking. So maybe its just the weather, pressure, coyotes, the poor hatch from last year or any of the other mentioned factors. Just my thoughts

  2. Im looking to sell a few items:

MHX 11'3" 10-20 float rod, I wrapped it myself and has recoil guides up the top piece. It stops kings dead, makes a great lower Niagara float rod and would be great off the piers chucking hardware. Looking to get $250.

Also Raven Matrix XL original, spins great and one small scratch on the outside rim does not effect fishability. Looking to get $125.

Would be willing to knock a few bucks off if they go as a combo.

Also a custom 9 ft. 7 wt. Fly rod. Looking to get $150.

Open to offers or trades for steelie/bass/Pike gear. Pm me if interested or for pictures.

    Thanks for looking,

    John

  3. Hi everyone,

Me and my brother recently picked up a small 12" aluminum boat last year and would like to target some northerns this season. I have caught a few when steelie and bass fishing but once the season opens I can't seem to find any when specifically targeting them.

We have been fishing at glenwood lake and waterport/lake Alice for the most part but open to other spots from the boat. We are strictly catch and release as well.

Not looking to be spooned here but would just like some general ideas of places to try around WNY. Any help in regards to lures to use is also greatly appreciated. Feel free to PM with any specifics.

    thanks,

    John

    John

  5. What size thread & type of finish  did you use ? I use size A thread . Also I bought an electric motor rod turner for drying ,otherwise you have to keep turning it for a few hrs. Have to be carefull to not ad to much weight to the blank w/ thread & finish. They look good & it is a fun cold weather project. I have done about 30 over the years .

I used size A also and used prokote medium build if I remember correct.  I invested in the rod turner as well.

Got to break in the pin rod this morning for a couple hours. Held up great but is going to take some getting used to.  Is going to be a great Lower Niagara and king beater rod for sure.

  6. Thanks guys. I have a feeling ill be doin alot more. But I just marked the guides where they were before I stripped the blank and spun the bottom 3 on the top piece. I know that's probably not the best way to do it but I was more interested in practicing the wrapping. The next project may be a spiral twist casting rod for steelies so ill do a little more reading on it.

  7. I Haven't had much time to get out this year with most of my free time coming after dark. So I decided to try my hand at rod building. So I stripped a 8 an a half casting stick and put a new handle and rewrapped the guides on a spiral. After I felt good enough I made myself a stiffer pin rod on a 10-20 11'3" blank. Thought it came out good just thought I'd care to share. Thanks for looking.
