  1. There's a ton of dead shad floating around in I. bay too, which isn't uncommen for this time of year.

Last weekend we even hooked a zombie-shad while trolling.

We laughed like crazy 'cuz it even took the spoon in it's mouth!... and the meat just falls off the bone!

  2.

The main reason for me to remove it is so netting and removing the fish from the net is easier.

We used to spend about 30minutes per fish trying to get the hooks out of the net, wasting a lot of valuble time on a short/hot bite. We ruined a lot of hooks too, that were stick in the mesh. Switched to the black rubber net and haven't had any problems since.

Leave the front hooks on,......that once-in-a-lifetime fish may hit from the front!

  3. I'm gonna fish Sunday morning. What's hitting now and what lures are you using?

well, you heard right!    Not to worry, I'll show you around out there little buddy!

Try posting in the Lake Ontario South shore thread, may get more replies there.

  4. Check Mark's Leisure Time or McMillin Marine, both Yamaha dealers.

It may just be the carb/s need cleaning by taking apart and soaking in carb cleaner.

I troll with a 1962 15HP 2 stroke that purrs like a kitten, you just have to take care of them like its your baby!

  5.   The 2 stroke Yamaha motor really doesn't like running at low RPM so eventually I may opt for electric trolling motor.   I also wonder if a four stroke motor would slow down better and run smoother/quieter?

You shouldn't have any problem trolling at slow speeds with any  two stroke.

Make sure the gas is fresh, treated with sta-bil, and mixed correctly, (todays gas goes bad in a month or two). Mayer's Marina or Pugsly's can give it a tune up and you will be happy.
