Fun day Friday on the water boated a nice brown in Mexico bay and steelhead.  Light tackle. 8 pound main line and 6 pound leader. Just using my Nh land lock salmon rigged rods.   With a stick bait off the plainer board. Went out hoping for a mid teens fish and got surprised with this beast. Ran quite a few times, probably should have let it go a few more runs but was presenting well for a net attempt.  My son got ready and I backed up and snap.  I was like darn lost a lure. Then he started cheering and straining to get the net up. When it hit the deck we were shocked.  Took us a while to get reset as we had peeled out to deeper water to fight the fish and not foul the other boats around.  Night before we had a few fish on for a bit but lost both. Weather didn’t look good sat when we pulled in to launch and headed home to NH.  Figured we burned our luck on the brown. I haven’t done spring browns in over 30 years with my father. Great fishery and had a blast. First weights on water were between 24.2 and 23.8. Weight at sonnys 7 hours later was 23.3

Congrats that's a wall hanger. That's what keeps us coming back knowing there are trophies in LO

  2. Just looking for options , what others are using. Have Otter boards and original line on reels. Have used mostly Larvick releases, which work ok, get hung up somewhat and don't want to slide down line at times. Are the Amish releases any better  Know guys use shower curtain hocks and rubber bands also. What works for you. Thanks for any info

  3. FYI  For those that use the state park cabin system, starting last year they DO NOT open up for rentals until 5/19/23 this year. State wide economy move they claim cost factor for heating cabins early April thru May too great  They'r losing revenue but also delay bringing their staff back from winter layoff. Not happy cause always enjoyed larger cottages at Fair Haven. Same goes for Selkirk Shores state park, just checked for myself. Any reasonable lodging around Mexico -Fair Haven , even further west I'd be interested in any info. Have my own boat

  4. I used to run Off Shore and Scotty pinch pads. Switched to blacks releases long time ago, on recent charter for browns questioned captain why he uses Scottys instead of Black Releases. Response was since Blacks are on DR cable can't see smaller fish when they hook up as opposed to pinch pads. More skippies that don't survive. I run my Blacks Release above downrigger ball and probe. They have different varieties for different situations
