Yeah its been forever.  I've been slacking with posting here and despite having a slip on Lake Michigan, I only took maybe 10 trips a year besides our big 10 day tournament.  Had some family health stuff going on with my parents so just didnt have the time to fish.  Then I lost my first mate (my fish barking dog) so just havent been as into it as before.  This year I'm going to get back into it and hit it hard no matter what the dock gas prices are.

Yeah same here Covid has been a blessing and a curse, bought a beautiful home on the Eastern shore of Lake Ontario and hoping to sell my business in the next 6-12 months and do what I've dreamed of doing for as long as possible. Hope this year is as good as 2018. On Lake O. it was nothing short of incredible!!!

  2. I have a live web cam on the Eastern shore of Lake Ontario on Sunset Bay, I would be happy to give lake condition to all LOU members either by PM or text. 207-229-0450. Hope 2022 is a great year for all after all the crap we all been thru.

Great Lakes trolling without an autopilot sure takes a lot more work. Combine no autopilot with a bad driver and it's going to be a LOOONNNNG day on the water, lol!

I'm sure others may feel differently, but for me a good autopilot will put more fish in the boat than any other piece of equipment since it frees everyone up to be fishing instead of driving, and makes netting fish a breeze.

    IMHO, YMMV and that's cool.

I was once told that auto-pilots save marriages

You're making a good choice and it's a good upgrade for you. I didn't hear from you very much this past summer and I was thinking you probably didn't come down very much. I hope you were able to enjoy your new home somewhat more. We were pretty disappointed with the king fishing but we did okay with other species most days we went out. Tempted to move more west but the haul is too much every weekend. We'll see how it goes next season. Have a good winter!

Yes you too Mike, the Retail meat business has been off the charts, trying to find a buyer in an economy where no one wants to work. Came out the last week of August just to watch the wind blow 20-25 kts. Oh well better luck next year. Have a good winter Mike, tight lines.........Pete

  5. I went with the Raymarine Evolution 150, it was $2100, the X-5 sport pilot worked great but it made steering difficult at the helm when docking the Baha, especially in hot weather. It was designed for power steering or could have added sea star assist, I thought I would be off just replacing the Raymarines. Hope next year is better fishing what little a got a chance to go. Thanks Mike

    Mike,

I apologize if you took my comments to heart I did not mean them to do that. You can do as you choose I'm all for that just not for me. I admire your desire to die in the outdoors I wish the same for myself you will never see me in a nursing home. I'm just not one for unnecessary risks at my age maybe earlier in my life. Your choices are entirely your own and I respect that. But as far as everyone's psychic ability....well stick to fishing. I'm a lifelong republican, Trump supporter from a very small town. I hope you accept my apology and we all get back to fishing. I've fished Ontario for over 40 years although not as much as some of you guys I'm sure.

I like happy endings, my take on Elrodlonzo was just good advice  concerning the dangers of Lake O. lets all be safe out there, tight lines everyone. (Although this year kinda of sucked fishing wise). Newmike good luck, I am out of catfish too and have your back brother.

This can be an expensive sport. If you are new id recommend getting riggers and wire divers first. Coppers are great and Id not leave the dock without mine but it's a limited use type of rig. Riggers and divers can be used to target any depth and are easier to learn. Copper can be great but one wrong move and the whole rig will be out of the game. You really want big high speed reels. My 500 copper setup cost me more than my first downrigger. You could get away with shorter coppers and snap weights and be more versatile. Eventually you will get long coppers but there the last thing I would add. If you get a good deal they would be worth it.

    Good advice

With 1 full week vaca in July, and 1 full week vaca in August - I only was able to get out on lake 4 times !

First time in 25 years we only got ONE Salmon in August !

I feel your pain, just got back from Mexico Bay, 2 salmon on Saturday then the wind was just relentless. Fishable in a 25 ft. Baha but NO fun, came home early, fish are scattered everywhere. Temps. all over the place. It will have to be next year for me. Good luck to everyone it has to get better.
