  1. these guys are talking about having a depth probe, and ill tell you that after getting mine this year i have almost put twice as meny fish in my boat. it is true when my team is together fishing the bigger ones are in colder water and yes probley fewer bites. but who can gripe about about 20# +. befor my depth probe i would set the fish finder a little more sensitive setting and would look for the break in the water and fish that wile wathching my rigger cable angles. to be honnest it realy worked for us poor cheap farmers looking for a good time. as far as where the 30#s are, i just saw a 33# come out of 150 ft if water. the same day our boat put probley 10 fish 22# to 26# . not big enough for the board a great day. dipsy where around 310 with mag dipsy and the riggers where no closer than 114'. if you look at the record books almost all the huge fish come off dipsy with flashers and flies. they get deep and out away form the boat with great action. but thats just my thought for the day. great luck and tight lines to you

  2. i fire more fish on dipsy's than anyother rod. eagle claw has actual rods for dipsy divers and coast around $30. the part that will kill you is the reels. they need to be meatl spools. im not sure what a cheap new one goes for but the last one i got hit me around $250. but it was a match to one that i snaped the handle off from at the dock and had lasted me 4 years and was still in great shape. im sure if you look on the classified here you'll find a reel nice set for a reel good price. as far as toher rods for a good fight for downriggers ( and i love my riggers too) i use 8 1/2 foot light action ugly sticks with a the pen gt 32 ( i think. not looking at them right now) they came as kits for i think around $200. started out with 1 back in april this year and i think i now have 4 or 5. from browns to kings i dont think theres a better rod. the reel ant no 309 thats for sure but no one makes things like they use to and ill have to see how long its going to last me. im not realy sure of the area your fishing and sorry i cant help you much.

1 last thing i know the best thing i ever did back a few years ago was take a charter when i started fishing in the big pond. it realy showed me a great starting point. great luck and always enjoy a day of fishing when you can

well boys and girls another great day out for the dipsy ranger. we took the little one out for a little spin and see if she could bring up theweight for her grand slam durby and sure enough she put a 21 lb king on there. puts her weight up at 51.14 with a grand slam. the rest of the kings road around 18lbs and the steel heads all around 10. none of them to bring home but a great time anyways. great luck to u all

  4. we tried it last year on the 4th of july and we hooked up a few times but relized that we where deff missing more than we cought. not having lights on the back of the boat was a huge setback. we put on some lights off a fork lift to light it all up but never realy gave it a far try, normaly its because we have fished all day and to tired to realy want to keep going. were realy going to give it a real try this 4th and if nothing else its a great fire works show all along the shore.

if we give it a try befor ill let ya know how we make out

  5. we want to put our name on the back of the boat. we don't have a lot of money but really want to show our name off for the open recreational tournament on the 21st and 22nd. what's the best way to go about this with out breaking the bank. i was thinking spray paint but i don't want it to look trashy. what does anyone think????
