  1. Ralph,

If you don't find the wood you are looking for try the Birchwood Casey Tru-oil refinishing kit. I just refinished my Grandfathers model 70 he bought in 1947 and the stock looks outstanding! I carried it all deer season and it held up and shot great!

  2. I ran meat for the first time this year and have only run MC Rockets. I caught fish on them every trip, especially early in the day.  If you are someone that doesn't get to fish Ontario very often they are definitley the way to go because they don't spoil and they hold up to many strikes.  Mike is also VERY VERY helpful. I couldn't tell you how many emails we shared back and forth.  He even took the time to individually copy and send the precision trolling dipsy charts.  AND repeatedly resend them when they came out too fuzzy to print.  He is a top notch guy all the way!

  3. I think you need to be pretty diligent with your between shot cleaning regimen or your accuracy will go to hell.  When all the fouling builds up in the rear of the barrel the bullet will never seat the same way, thus your point of impact will never be quite the same.  In most hunting situations you will probably be firing from a clean/cold bore so that is how I try to sight mine in.  Hope this helps.  Good luck.

  4. For those imterested Olympia arms is making an ar platfrom style rifle in 22-250.  Also, the one thing I have seen mentioned in load selection is the rate of twist in your barrel.  If its a slower twist it will generally oerform better with a lighter projectile.  I have a heavy barrel thumbhole Howa 1500 and it shot poorly with a  50gr or heavier bullet.  But, when I tried the 40 gr Hornady V-max it put 4 shots in a bottle top at 200 yds.

Whatever you choose, experiment with your ammo until you are happy with the performance.  No matter what yiou are chasing!! Good Luck!

  5. You got it Justin when you said JUMBO PERCH.  Its fairly easy to go and catch small perch most places, but to dial in on the Jumbos is a different deal altogether.

Sometimes I think its alot like bowhunting.  Many places in Upstate NY you can go and shoot  a young buck pretty easily, but to try and nail down an older mature buck is a whole different endeavor.

  6. I have many magda's, a coldwater and a clarion. The Clarion is an awesome reel, much better than the coldwater for not much more money.  If you can find the clarion somewhere which doesn't charge sales tax the clarion is basically the same money as the coldwater if not cheaper.  I have ordered things from www.jaxcattackle.com and have been very pleased.  I am unhappy with the coldwater for the same reasons as mentioned above.
