  1. Saturday morning bite on Keuka north was not a repeat of last Tuesday. Got 3 before noon but very slow. My son said he was happy though (he got 2 of them) because we did not end up with a skunk in the boat. Really trying to sway him with good fishing, deer success (start next weekend), and beautiful Finger Lakes hill sides because he and his new wife will be making a long term decision as to where they will settle down within the next few months. A little fly in the ointment is that Kit (his new wife) is not overly fond of cold weather. 24 degrees yesterday morning was probably not a positive thing. Am keeping our fingers crossed. Maybe 60 -70 degree weather next week will help.
  2. Hi dtd - yes that was me Tuesday. Sounds like you found a good spot too. Planned on going out with my son this am but 24 degrees is a little much. Probably go out when temp over 32 . Plan on trip with hermit next week but have not figured which day yet. Note that I will be in red Lund then. Had my black Alumacraft out Tuesday to make sure it was running well (which it was) because I am trying to sell it(on LOU). Maybe Will see you out there. Sounds like some nice temps coming up.
  3. Good laker jigging on the Branchport end of Keuka in 70-110 fow last Tuesday. 7 in 2.5 hours. Sent you an e-mail Alec.--- FTF. Did you try Seneca near Long Point? Any good news?
  4. Thanks FTF. I had luck jigging with white tube. Yes Alec. I have tried Sampson 4 or 5 times this year with no luck. Going to hit Keuka tomorrow to see if Lakers are hungry yet. If they are would you want to try some jigging next week if weather is fishable ? I will be hitting deer woods after that so may not be fishing for a while if deer are uncooperative.
  5. Thanks FTF. Really zeroing in on area north of Long Point, I line up with the Navy research vessel and cream colored mc mansion on the west shore. Say on the pike action near Lodi. How do you keep your Husky Jerks from fouling up with weeds? Do you only fish it in the top 2 feet of water maybe?
  6. Decent number Lakers tight to bottom north of Long Point at 75 to 110 fow drop off. Spent most of my time in shallow water after pike. Nothing doing. Just do not seem to be able to get pike to cooperate this year. Bummer.
  7. Thanks Alec (Hermit). Just one more lure to buy. Never stops. - Al
  8. Wow - That explains a lot. Huge numbers of perch out in deep water and show up big time on a fish finder. Who would of thunk. May have to change jigging tactics based on that. Smaller jigs for one thing.
  9. Thanks Butch 7977. Guess that confirms that the perch minnows do move out over deep water. Pretty risky behavior I would say. Hard to imagine that a school of 1-2" perch would show up as a good sized bait ball on a fish finder but who knows. Sure would be a lot of perch.
  10. Butch7977 - FYI Did see a good number of bait balls north of the state park boat launch last Tuesday. I remember thinking "did all the sawbellies in the lake move to the north end?" Nothing compared to the north end of Seneca earlier this year however. Also Butch, were all those perch minnows you were seeing out in deep water (say over 70 feet) ? That would answer one of my questions if they were.
  11. Another interesting observation. The laker that had eaten the 14 perch minnows had an entirely different color meat than the 2 other smaller lakers I caught in the same place at the same time. The perch eater had a very distinct orange/salmon color flesh while the other 2 lakers that I did not see any perch inside were the normal white colored flesh??????
  12. I fished Keuka all day yesterday (jigging) for lake trout. Was a very slow day. Had some missed hits earlier but had a late afternoon short bite and ended up with 4 in the boat. I saw lots of lakers and bait balls on the fish finder. The interesting part was when I gutted a 25 incher I found 14 1" to 2" perch minnows inside. I caught her (had eggs) in 114 fow in the middle of the lake. Water temperature was 71 degrees on top. That begs a number of questions, at least for me. 1- I would assume the perch were in warmer water near the top. That means the laker had to move up out of it's preferred temperature waters and maybe was feeding near the surface? 2- Were the perch minnows way out in deep water or did the laker move into shallow water to get them? 3- Should we be fishing with perch minnows near the surface? 4- Is this why Keuka lakers seem to taste better than lakers from other waters (I like grilling all of them however) because they eat perch rather than sawbellies? 5- Is this why the bite was so tough? I was using a 3.5 " tube and they were actually eating 1-2 inch minnows? Any thoughts out there?

  14. Only used once. Bought 2/2015 for $250 plus tax and shipping. Includes transducer. Does not have wide angle cone (83 KHz) which I have to have for lake trout jigging. $175.
  15. Can give you some tips I use for jigging. 1- I always drift. 2- I get super sharp jigs (1 & 1.25 oz from hermit (cayugafisher) on this site 3- White and chartreuse colors best for me. 4- Hermit has good paddletails. 5- 5" chartreuse flukes also are good 6-As Sk8man (guy sure knows his fishing)says decent fishfinder is a must 6- Lot of lakers sit on the bottom and you do not see them until you drop your jig 7- I catch 90% of my lakers on the retrieve.
  16. Absolutely huge number of lakers and bait out from Belhurst (north end) in 60 to 80 fow. Saw bait breaking the surface at times. Spent most of the day getting my new fish finder dialed in so did not get a lot of lakers but did get a 31 incher. Chartreuse 5 inch fluke on 1 ounce jig was working.
