  1. Don't be nervous with the touch screen I have a 720 and 70 echo both touch screen user friendly and have pinch to zoom very fast to work with. No problems two years now.

  2. Anyone see the new Fishhawk display unit yet?  Was in the last issue of Great Lakes Angler.

Here are some of the features:

    - Ability to send the display via bluetooth to your smartphone

    - Surface speed has been added back on the XD

    - Can log each fish caught with the actual readings from the unit at the time of the catch on your phone

    - Red/Orange back light instead of blue

I bought my X4D last summer brand new....and looks like Im going to have to upgrade already.  I really didnt like having to use GPS speed to read the currents (surface vs current speed) so will be nice to have surface speed on the unit.  The catch log is also a great feature since it will really help dial in setups.

Saw that one coming with all the used XD units out there for sale Funny they told us we didn't need surface speed and now we do . Just got to love marketing.
  3. Great unit been running one for two years . Fish finder works well and the draw speed on the gps is exceptional. The Garmin G2 card is great for lake Ontario and Erie. Navionics is working on a card I have a 901 Great Lakes East that they gave out for feedback and it can be updated with data from your sounder . There are some good half price deals out there as the unit is being changed from the touch screen to a button model. the stock transducer is good but you can update to the Airmar P66 which is better and get surface speed as a bonus . I have 5 Garmin units and they have been trouble free the last 5 years . This has been my experience and only my opinion some may differ.

  4. I just sold a old model 30 it was a good auger just couldn't handle the weight anymore .. Buy what suits you most augers are decent this day and age .

  5. My teenage son as long as I feed him every hour. So far haven't brought my gas auger the last two years.

To funny the way those young guys eat I think you are loosing on that deal.
  6. On season two its been great .  The Honda motor is great don't let the plastic fool you its a tough auger. Cold start prime the bulb choke it if it doesn't go take the choke off it will fire let it warm up that is critical then it has lots of steam. Also there is a break in period it just gets better the more I use it.

  7. The Cisco motors are twice the size of the big jons. Plus there is ZERO plastic anywhere on the Cisco's, all cnc machined aircraft aluminum.

Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Plastic bad word ? How are your Scotty's holding up .

  8. I'm fine with the manuals.  Its the crew I fish with that are constantly whining and need pampering. LOL

If you have the mast BJ sells a conversion kit to electric around $500 that is what we used on one of our set ups . They come complete switches wiring etc.

  9. Before you pull the trigger on the Big Jon reels (which are good) take a close look at Cisco's reels. Their a bit more but they're also the best in my opinion.

Top quality materials, design, and durability and the motor can haul in a set of Amish Outfitter boards like they were yellow birds.

I may be wrong but I think the motors are the same but the Cisco use a lower gear ratio . There is a price differential on the motors of about ten bucks with the Cisco being the less costly but the mast set up and switches are higher priced with the Cisco . Both set ups work well .

  10. you never know until you try it . Netted a 25lb king alive floating on the surface that broke off some ones rod it had a rapala with a broken lip hooked up to a dodger kept the tackle and released the fish . Ran a 10 inch 42nd spinny short leader hooked up to a 8inch 42 spinning a short leader hooked to a 42nd spoon . The chinnies ate it up at the bar a few years ago . Still laugh at that one .
