  1. Better trip better tip Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. I'm almost foolish enough to try to run a charter boat. I am wondering if established charters ever sell their whole businesses. Clients, boats, tackle the whole thing. Not looking to buy or anything it was just a thought. Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. I recently thought it was awesome to run the most rods I could. Not so cool after you catch a fish and spend 30 minutes fixing your tangled mess. Cutting everything and retying is not fishing! That will be when you troll over the spot where the fish are and miss them. If you are going to learn to put a spread out like I did only start with 1 to 2 Riggers and when you are bringing a fish in if that rigger is only 3 to 6 feet down. Put it down farther or you will have a tangle. Planer boards 2 on a side and if the fishing is slow put a 1 off the back of boat in the prop wash. Most importantly find the fish and stay in them and you wont even need all your rods out.
  4. Tough weekend! Fish are there they were just real picky. Watched them check out the lures but no takers. 5 for 6 sat morning. 0 for 2 Saturday night and 1 for 2 Sunday afternoon. No FF combo worked twice. Worst part of the weekend was I finally used a copper set up I purchased from fat Nancy's and the reel was messed up. Took it back to fat Nancy's and they told me it was my problem.thats awesome of them. I have only spent thousands of dollars there. Thanks Dave ill never spend another dollar in your store!
  5. Fished oswego saturday morning and the brown bite was very good. If you were in dirty 5 to 30 foot of water you were busy with the bass and browns. Went 6 for 9 on the browns and 7 for 7 on the bass. Boated one brown that was 15lbs and lost another 2 that were equal in weight. It was a well deserved outting! Never got a chance to go and look for the kings.
  6. So I purchased a boat and a Raymarine C80 sonar and plotter came with it. Having a few issues with it. It may be me and can't dial the gain/sensitivity in on the 50hz sonar. The 200hz seems to be working well. Picks up the balls, bait, and also fish. I have done some research and I think I should be able to see a better screen on the 50hz. It does not pick up the ball or anything and when I turn the gain up the screen just goes fuzzy and picks up nothing. Does this sound like a transducer problem? Or is it junk and should buy myself the HDS8 second generation. From what I see that looks like a good one. If there is a better one out there I would like to look at it. Does anyone have a sonar at the helm and at the back of the boat too? Can two different 200hz sonars be mounted on the same boat? Any information or input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  7. Purchased a boat and the planer board line is crap. The releases won't slide down as fast as they should. I have never purchased any line and don't even know what line is on there. Looking for a line to pull otter boards. Do not care what color the line is just would like a good line. Thanks
  8. I have hunted for the kings for 3 weekends now and have not located a one out of oswego. Fished 5 to 300 fow. The lakers were 80 to 130 and the browns were most active in 20 fow. Im they are there but I haven't been able to fool one yet. Maybe this weekend I will find one! Good Luck
  9. Brown on a stinger chicken wing glow spoon in the harbor 10 down 20 fow. Steelie 20 fow and lakers on a top water firer tiger color. lakers on the bottom with mag spoons. Color didn't matter it just had to be dragging on the bottom and trolling slow. 1.2 - 1.5
  10. 1 brown 1 steelie and boat full of lakers. Picked the brown up in the harbor and the steel east of the harbor. In 20 FOW you could see the fish jumping but they were only 12 inches at max. Decided to head deeper and when we hit 70 FOW a rigger fired and a planer board line went. Rigger was a laker and lost the planer line fish. It was a nicer fish on the planer board and I thought it would of been a brown. Looped around and the same thing happens. Rigger on bottom and flat line on top. This time we got both fish. They were both laker! Lakers on flat line in 100 to 70 FOW is that normal? I had 48 degrees on top and 47 on the bottom so it does make sense. Had trouble with the lakers not releasing off the downriggers. Just noticed them thumping but a few times I didnt see it and had a tangled mess when I checked them. I use scotty power releases off the riggers and they are new and wont release for me. Lakers moved out to 120 to 140 FOW later in the day and tight to the bottom. GOOD LUCK!
  11. Glow lures ie... Chicken wings, rosemarys, black edge glow, a few others that have red and orange bellies. I have all green and have not got any hits on them yet.
  12. Bad from the start! hooked up the fish finder and broke a male prong. Took a few minutes to make a jimmy rig to fix it. Set out at 6am and seen everyone going for browns. Decided to go out for lakers. BAD move! No sooner we got out there the wind picked up and made fishing tough. Worked 100 to 140 and seen fish. Within an hour the waves built to be over 4's with ease. Picked up and came back to the harbor. BAD move! Didn't catch a fish inside either. Put the boat away at 11 and went to talk to a friend to see how they did. BAD move! They caught the browns and the lakers and the salmon. He showed me what they caught them on. I didn't have any of the lures he showed me. So now I go to the tackle shop. BAD move! over 45 minutes and 400 dollars later I have a small bag filled with new lures and rigs. Now I am home looking then over and dreaming about how many fish I will catch with them. I LOVE IT!
  13. Talked to the main man for fish hawk. Got to send it away for a rebuild.
  14. A nice ride in the new boat but a horrible fishing trip. Got a late start and missed the browns in the morning and then took to long to figure out where the lakers were. Seen the big boys in the harbor early so we changed our set up, but had no luck. Went out to 120 and marked fish but only took 1 on a 105 rigger in 140 FOW. Called it at noon to go home and drive myself crazy on how I can fool the fish to bite my line. Back to the drawing board! Good Fishing!
  15. A used fish hawk x-4 came with a boat I recently purchased. I believe that the settings are not default. The down temp reads 5.00 is stead of 50.0. Does anyone know how to recalibrate the unit to return to default settings. Are the default settings not accurate? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
  16. You did a good job to Capt. Big Tyme. I forgot to mention that your years of experience made it all possible. Thanks!
  17. Finally the wind didn't blow on a day we could go fishing. Everything looked to be good. An organized clean boat, new lines, and lures, but the most important was we had the luckiest fisherman ever named John with us again. What a first trip of the season!!! 1 coho, 1 laker, and BROWN CITY. 20 something for 30 something. A 5 fish fire drill and 4 fish fire drill filled the bottom of the boat in the first hour! Kept the bigger ones and let the runts go. Most action in 10 to 25 FOW just out side of the muddy looking water. Glow spoons on the riggers took the bigger fish but the smithwicks on the boards produced the fire drills and most of the action. One brown pushed 15 lbs and a few were 10 to 12ers. Majority of the fish were around 4 to 8lbs. I hope this happens the rest of the season!!!! Good luck!!!!
  18. I am going to target salmon most of the time and if I know I seen salmon at 150' and deeper before on the fish finder. Will the a 14lb finned balls get me down there with ease? or did I make a $160 dollar mistake and should of went with the torpedoes?
  19. I just purchased two 14lb yeck finned balls for $80 from Brettsplaceonthebay.com . From the research I have done he has the best prices and if not he will beat any competitor. I would like some of those torpedoes though.
  20. Most likely I will go with two more of the same type weights. I bought one of the cabelas directional ball for super cheep. Its shaped to pull out away from the other two center weights. Has anyone used them before or heard anything about them? Any information would be awesome! Thanks!
  21. Putting out 12 plus rods would be a sight I would love to see. I never thought it was possible until recent knowledge from you guys. 4 riggers, 2 dipsy, and 2 coppers would be the most I would dare to try. I can understand why a charter would put a big spread out but I plan to just try to show off for my friends and family. Hopefully the fishing is great I will not even put 8 rods out. If it is real slow I will try to get a few more out. Ill be the best lure washer here in Starkville, NY! Thanks again!
  22. I purchased a pair of 14lb rigger weights for a pretty good deal. Now need to find another pair. I am looking at the cabelas directional weights. They are only 12lb. SO..... are they no good for getting to 100'? I am thinking they would be a good idea. But! they might not be I have never used them. I was thinking the 14s for the center 2 and the 12lb directional for the 2 outside riggers. Are the awesome or a disaster waiting to happen. Get another pair of 14lb? get the directional pair? or go with both? Never can have enough, right? Keep helping the helpless. THANKS!
  23. Alright if I run a bunch of lines and only get tangles with myself I should be fine. Which brings me to my next big ponder. They could be a disaster waiting to happen. Get another pair of 14lb, get the directional pair, or go with both? Never can have enough tackle right? Keep helping the helpless. THANKS!
